consoles can run HD video @ 1080p.

but neither d PS3 nor d 360 can render games at 1080p.:bleh:

there r only a few titles on d ps3 like ridge racer n sonic dat run @ 1080p :cool2:

true, number of titles that run at 1080p are fewer than those that run at 720p.

But both those consoles are capable of rendering games at 1080p.
and many of the new titles (for the 360 atleast) are 1080p.

Once again, as with everything else, that would be your POV and not necessarily everybody else's.

as for my POV, going the console way has been cheaper.

I had set aside 2 grand for a PC, solely for gaming purposes.
But then I thought, since its going to be games, why not buy something thats dedicated to games and that wouldnt get me worried about upgrades and other "hassles" and that would have new games coming out for it for a few years.

So i went for the 360 and a fullHD display all within 1k usd.

wht for 2 grand u must have been thinking abt a 8800gtx n a high end dual core n would have played games @ 1900x1200 res.:hap2:
but now wid ur console u r playing @ 1280x720.:(

My POV
com on yar.. u cannot compare a F1 car wid a road car n den say dat d road car is VFM

PC gaming there is no alternative to upgrading every yr n d value of PC gaming is directly proportional to d res u play games at ..If u r satisfied playing games @ 800x600 den d pc will b even cheaper dan a console even if we take the cost of games out of d equation.

Ya n u can store PORN ;)

Within 2grand, i doubt i could have squeezed in a 8800gtx, a high end proc and a display that can get to those resolutions (24"+)
and even then I am not sure i would be able to run games at that resolution for very long without upgrading.

I am sure you will agree that at hi-res the processor is slightly lesser imprtant so you can choose to upgrade the processor after a couple of years which lot of people do anyways... ....And you dont buy 24" monitors every year...

Agreed, but that big bad GPU is the most expensive component in that setup and also the most likely one that would require an upgrade.

Consoles are meant for "Entertainment" & only entertainment..but PC differ..PCs are built for a more general use.

Keeping entertainment in mind ..i feel Consoles are the best.

It can play HD movies,songs & games(ofcourse)...

Having consoles need not worry about upgrades at all.Just insert the Disk & GAME-ON

^^ the bad part is some people screw around . not all titles are released for PC and vice verca . eg crysis ,

You only need new HW to get the best . most people are happy at lower settings and less AA AF .
People were crazy for the PS2 , but i played NFS most wanted and it looks like shit compared to what i can get on a PC ,

lets see here , a PC was a modest AMD 64 3600+ onboard gfx , which is a requirement for internet etc , now i put in a 6600GT agp and it was 10 times better than what i could get on a console . and the card cost me half the price of the console ,

when the next gen GFX hit PS3 will be outdated . for a console it will be no doubt be best , but better graphics will always feature first on the PC .

i don't want to fall into that looped debate...but suffice to say I feel graphics are overhyped...

The game I have had max fun with ever was super mario

andthe on screen character was composed of sprites :P

speaking of fun games...how many arnd here were addicted to those cheap chinese Tetris handhelds (generally called brick-game) in the early 90s?

Another recent game I have been having awesome fun with is Rayman Raving Rabbids... you can choose to call the gfx on that crappy though ...

On a side note, why haven't I ever had fun with any game that supposedly had good gfx...hmmm..perhaps dreamfall is one exception i can think of

As for games being expensive...most gaming stores here have buyback policies..so u can return a game after you are done with it and get a percentage of your money back and then go ahead to buy the next game.

And then i now have the added advantage of a HD media centre (with my HDD connected + wireless streams from my roommates computers).
So, in my POV, the console has given the more VFM.

@Rio, nothing of that sorts, no offense meant to you or anyone else, but i do find you misinterpreting my posts :P
and I never intended to say consoles > PC.

p.s: I have embarassingly small feet.
Please do yourself a favor and get your post edited... or I will reply to you.

I feel graphics are overhyped...

I wonder how many consolers have bragged about graphics on the launch of a new console (the latest ones are the ps3 ppl), and fallen back to the lame gameplay defense.

Saying game like Tf2, Elder Scrolls, UT3 have lesser gameplay in caparison to mario is stupid. Based on that philosophy it would make Sinatra < Himesh Reshamia

perfect analogy Sesar

Super Mario Bros is nearly universally acknowledged to be amongst the top games of all times...

comparing a UT3 with Mario is indeed ridiculous...

Just that Sinatra in your analogy corresponds to Mario

Mario is better than TF2 and UT3? :)

Though it may very well be better than Elder Scrolls, one of the most overrated series ever.
It's the GTA of rpg's - heavy on content, little on material.

hmm, personally for me, anyday...

As for more widespread polls, mario was # 1 on IGNs top 100 games of all times vote

Why it Made our Top 100 List: Nintendo's beloved 2D platformer was number one on our Top 100 list a couple of years ago, and it had no problem holding onto the top spot in this year's vote. Perhaps the classic game remains an IGN favorite because it helped revitalize the videogame industry in the post-Atari era of gloom and doom. Or maybe it's cherished above all others because it so effortlessly represents everything that makes us love Nintendo-developed games in general: an unwavering attention to play control and level design. The game, which stars Nintendo's classic mascot hero Mario in 30-some levels of inspired 2D platforming, introduced millions of players to videogames and left them captivated. Super Mario Bros. remains one of the most pioneering and influential titles to date. More importantly, it's every bit as addictive, enjoyable, and satisfying today as it was two decades ago.

haven't played a more addictive game than mario ever... :)

edit: the original super mario bros may seem dated now...for anyone who wants to try out what the mario series is all about, super paper mario is highly recommended

^^You seriously need to get refreshed if you think mario is the best game ever. It was the best game of its time but comparing it to any modern classic is nothing short of ridiculous. Hitting your head on a brick and jumping on tortoises doesnt count as gameplay anymore.

About the hardware discussion... comparing console hardware to any modern PC is a complete LOL.

sholay today may seem campy...doesnt take away the title of the coolest bollywood flick ever from it.... :P

on a side note, i recently re-finished super mario Bros 2 albeit on a symbian NES emulator on a Nokia phone...absolute unadulterated fun

You can show me a hundred polls but still can't come out and say it with a straight face.
Come on just do it :P Mario is better than TF2!

haven't I already said it.... :P

for me, gaming has absolutely nothing to do with the hardware that runs it, or the graphics that it pumps out...

as long as it is fun and entertaining, it doesn't matter at all what kind of setup it is running on... sample Super mario bros 2 on a Nokia 3230

edit:

^^He doesnt wanna get butchered by 200 million hl2 fanbois .

LOL....*ducks for cover
