"Please take a few minutes to conduct a small test. Go to ebay india website (eBay India - Online Shopping Mall: Free Auctions, Shop/Buy/Sell Mobiles, Cameras, Apparel, Computers, Bollywood Clothes & Indian Products ), view a product. If the seller of the product has other items for sale, click on the sellers product rating. Next, select another product from the same seller and again click on the seller rating. You will notice that you are being shown the same rating page. So:
1. The rating page does not show information specific to the product you are viewing. The rating page is designed to deliberatley mislead the prospective buyer.

Dig around - view other products on the ebay site. Soon enough you will notice several sellers warn you against giving negative rating. So:
2. Why does ebay allow sellers to post warnings against giving negative ratings? As the buyer you should be free to give any rating you like based on your experience with the purchase.

If you have purchased a product and try to leave a comment you will notice that ebay does not permit more than half a sentence. All you can write is a few words. So again:
3. Ebay feedback system is neither fair nor in the best interest’s of prospective buyers - it only serves to protect the seller.

I would love to see a field that says "Product manufactured in:" and the name of the country that manufactured the product being displayed. I wrote to ebay and apart from the automated message, got no further response from them. Over 60% of products being sold on ebay are "Made in China" these are almost always poor quality and simply made to look like the real thing. They work well for a short period before dying on you. Meanwhile you might have given a positive rating for the product which helps the seller but not the prospective buyer so:
4. ebay does not permit you to review and change your feedback.

5. Compare prices between ebay and the local shop in your neighbourhood. Like me you might be surprised to note that the prices quoted on ebay are often higher.

Finally, Check out the waranty. In most cases there is no product waranty and where it does exist, the seller often writes "Manufacturer Warranty" with most of these items being made in China:
6. Warranty statement often has no meaning to it. What it should also state is, name of the manufacturer and whether or not the product is being serviced in India.

A few sellers have a return policy. But notice that you have to return the product in the same condition within 7 days and what you get is often Not Money Back but something called "Merchandising credit" / "Excanage" If a product is defective, shouldn’t you have the right to demand a full refund? Why should you agree to have one defective product replaced by another (maybe equally defective product) How dare ebay permit unfair trade practices in India? so again:
7. Cheating is legal on ebay india
(see for yourself - lookup Samlai Technologies on ebay india.)

So, should you be buying from ebay? I’d say it depends on whether you like to gamble or not."

Ebay India Complaints - Shopping on ebay india is very very risky!
Posted: by Sumit Katyal
I had purchased a product from ebay online on 4th april seller discountedgames07 item code is 270106178643 & the payment is made of rs 1349, paisapay id 19301361008. But on 7th april the seller become unregistered member on ebay. And i had not received the product yet, seller has not responded to me after several mails & even ebay india is also not taking any serious action against it.

Ebay company should take some serious responsibility to solve this problem, they are not responding well. I know i had lost my money but i had also lost faith on ebay india online shopping concept, as they have no rules if any buyer or seller become defaulter. In future i will never buy online from ebay india, this was my first & last dealing...

Please note: shopping on ebay india is very very very risky.

Ebay India Complaints - Cheating at ebay purchase!
Review all Ebay India complaints
Posted:by Sujit Chakrabarti

I have paid INR 450/- on 11/02/2007 to online purchase of item AB Slimming Belt (Item No.160082517556) through Paisa Pay (ID: 19009782492) from the seller srinivasan15. But the item has not been delivered to my address. Moreover, the seller has de-registered from ebay site after receiving the payment. From ebay I could not receive the email ID of the seller. The phone number given by them was proved to be fake. I lodged the complaint in dispute forum of ebay, but do not expect much help from them as they are lingering with my complaint on the pretext of dispute rules. ebay does not verify the contact information of the seller when they register to the site. ebay is only interested to extort fees from the seller at the expense of customer security. There is no security to the customers purchasing items in ebay and they are at the mercy of dishonest sellers who in connivance of ebay are robbing the customers. Be careful to purchase anything through ebay.

Ebay India Complaints - Useless helpdesk
Posted:by A K Srivastava
I was a user of ebay. I thought its a good web portal or online shopping. I was in the process of purchasing a mobile phone and a mouse. The payment has been made amounting to Rs 13,500/-. In the meantime my account was blocked on some flimsy ground. The seller even after acknowledging that he ad received payment gave an unpaid strike against me thinking that as i was suspended i cant do anything. I am trying to reach helpdesk but they are not responding. I think nobody is reading my email and i am getting an automated reply every time i tried to reach them. I think it is useless now as there is no phone number listed for solving my prob on there website. So ebay is good as long as u dont landup in a problem. The moment u r in trouble even on flimsy ground. there is no one whom u can ask for help.

eBay Forums: cheated on ebay?? Getting no help?? ...

I have been using ebay from 2005. I have bought items as low as 1rupee to as high as 52K from ebay india. I have never been cheated. Though there were some issues like transit damage or different item all have been resolved with sellers.

Though there may be cases like you told they are rare.

You should make sure that you read the listing carefully, terms and conditions, pay through paisa pay, check the sellers rep before buying etc.

btw the examples you gave at last happened in 2006 which is not relevant at this time.

i know they are 2006 cases, but all the 2009 ones tht were on ebay forum got deleted so fast couldnt get em here

always pay via. PAYPAL/PAISAPAY on ebay.

ebay has good & secured system, if u pay via paypal/paisapay.

seller does not get money unless buyer recives the item. if item is not recieved, buyer get's money back with diduction of some fee(which is proably 50Rs. ).

I think, all those disputes have occoured are due to payment made through other means like, DD, Cheque, etc. and not through PAYPAL/PAISAPAY.

I feel online transactions are always a bit risky no matter how secure they are to be said. There are some people who will always try to exploit the loopholes on a trade website like Ebay.

Whenever i am about to pay online, i pray and let the money go :P

Dunno much about eBay.in but the global eBay web site is like the biggest "chor bazaar" of the world that's open 24x7. A lot of stuff can be had at dirt cheap rates and I've bought hundreds of things (630 according to my feedback) over the years.

As someone posted earlier, use paypal/paisapay and you should be just fine.

as long as you are using paisapay and have read the listing properly you are ok enough. i have used ebay for about a year and have almost always have had a good experience. only once did the seller not ship the item as it was not in stock and there too i promptly got the refund.

one thing i always think a person should do is while buying from ebay only get goods which are branded and new. so you know wat to expect. when you buy a unbranded stuff, you keep cannot define a baseline to which to compare a product.

this holds not only for ebay but for any deal done online. from what i see, used products will have the highest risk as you really dont know the condition they are in.

on the costs front, ebay prices many a times do happen to be higher than the street prices in the bigger cites like mumbai atleast. but there are quite a few sellers who sell new products are very competitive prices too. of course it can get better, but the present is not exactly as bad as portrayed by the first post.

and yes one thing ebay really needs is a better feedback system. i cannot agree more on this. why do you want a feedback to be truncated to 80 chars god only knows.

The rating page is designed to tell you about the seller, not about the product. For example if you want to purchase a newly introduced product from either of two sellers, one seller has 2000 satisfied customers for various products int he past out of 2000 purchases, but has 0 ratings for this particular product because no one has bought it yet and another seller has 2 purchases with 100% rating for the product you want, but had a history of 200 negative ratings, who would you like buy form?

Obviously what matters is the overall rating of the seller, not his rating for one particular product.

Sellers do try to pull stunts like this putting up warnings againist negative ratings, but you can always report them to eBay and they do take action too. They were always very responsive about reports like this. I have reported several sellers myself, and I have also reported sellers who had put put up pirated games for sales (most of them under the pretense of selling original games), eBay promptly removed the listings and banned the ebay accounts of the sellers.

I agree the space for feedback comments should be much larger, but one can hardly claim that the system favors the seller. If anything, it favors the buyers the way it should be. A while back, I ordered a game through eBay, the seller had not updated his page the last couple of weeks due to a personal emergency and he called me up to inform that the game is out of stock that I can either get a refund or get some other game from him, but even before I asked him for a refund, eBay automatically initiated the refund process since the seller's grace period for dispatching the product as expired and I got the refund.

Almost all electronics are manufactured in china even if they are American and European brands. So would it help you in any way if they put up an automatic tag "Made in China" for all products that come under the electronics section? Also remember the feedback is for the buyer and the seller, not for the product. As long as the seller dispatched a product promptly with good packaging and it reaches you in good condition, the seller deserves a positive rating. It doesn't matter if it breaks down after a couple of months. If you bought some cheapo Chinese junk without warranty form the Sunday market in your city and the stuff breaks down after a while, do you get anything by going back to the seller about it?

Lots of Indians have the bad habit of buying odd stuff that they don't even need as long as its cheap or has something free. people should research their products before buying. ebay is not a site for product reviews. If you want to know about a product, Google it up before you purchase. If would be nice if ebay puts a system in place for rating the product too, but its just a nicety.

Yes, often times they are higher, but its not illegal as long as the prices are with in the limits of the MRP's. If its not, just report the product. Also, no one is forcing the people to buy from ebay. However there are also many products available from reputed sellers for competitive prices, so you cannot really complain.

The buyer is solely responsible for validating all the details posted by the seller before buying. Its important to understand the terms and conditions, any warranty and return policy details before getting on with a purchase. You can always contact the seller for details and clarify everything from him and then decide whether to buy or not. Its just unfair to buy something without going through all the details and then cry foul when its not to your satisfaction.

This is not something specific to eBay. Even if you buy from your local market, these things have to be kept in mind. For example if you buy a TV set with a 5 year warranty on the picture tube and 1 year on the rest of the electronics and the 5 year warranty part has been highlighted more and after a year something breaks down and you find that you are out of warranty for it, who is to blame for it? They will just show you the 1 year warranty part in the fine print and be done with it. Its your fault for not reading the warranty terms and conditions.

I am not siding with eBay, but most of these points made by the author of that review point to negligence on his end than to problems with eBay and that sort of negligence cause problems not just when dealing on eBay. People have had faced genuine customer care problems with eBay India as is common with most most other customer care sections of companies offering products and services in India, so you cannot afford to be negligent. But as long as you are careful, you can utilize eBay quite well.

its easier to blame someone i guess!

why blame ebay when its just a platform for buyers and sellers?

blame the seller and buyer both. The seller for taking advantage and the buyer for being a moron!

its not cheating. Its a win-win for both dealer and buyer. We get discounts and the dealer gets more sales

check my iTrader profile..only one deal so far...that too was offline..

i do not deal on ebay...

(n one deal which was online bt 4got 2give iTrader..)

by saying misuse of ebay coupons i meant people listing new as well as OLD stuff on ebay...coupons being valid over stuff being sold directly by the manufacturer or the distributer(like mail-in rebates) could be understood as promotional...

i feels its unethical to use ebay coupons to sell ur 2nd hand hardware...

all apart...thats my POV....the word 'cheating' in comment was intended to be used against th topic... as misrepresentation OR not-so-user-friendly representation is what the topic claims to be cheating.

@partymonger

its not about saying sumthin different..thats all i wanna argue on that part.

I've been using eBay since 4-5yrs and haven't had any bad deal. Also, good thing about eBay rating system is, regardless of what rating you give to seller, the seller HAS to give you positive rating only. Which is good because after all we pay before getting the product.

I wonder how you can say that when ebay's policies clearly show they dont have any problem..:S

But why not? Ebay WANTS you to use it!
They can easily change this too, but they allow it since the fees structure remains the same..they dont care whats sold, sold is sold, irrespective of new or old..

I haven't had any bad experiences with ebay either but in case the seller is a fraud the buyer has a very little protection.
