@greenie, I'm sure I wouldn't be faulting any of the stuff you mentioned in your second post. But I'm also sure you must be aware of what we are talking about here. I doubt the op had those things in mind when looking for justification.

All that talk of high costs etc. means he was talking of stealing stuff one couldn't afford. Obviously only the stinking rich can afford to buy all the Blurays/ games/ software released. But should the reasonably well to do try to match up by stealing?

You don't like the eulas, don't buy the software. There's a huge open source movement out there. Support them.

I doubt we'd have had any artists if they didn't concentrate solely on their art. Money gives them more time to indulge their and our tastes.

the point is , the pricing bars are set arbitrarily by folks who for some reason think pricing should be in line with western pricing. and dont even get me started on availablity. Why should i have to bother going to a store in a bigger town or buy stuff via KMD , which May or may not play on my DVD player, which may or may not install a rootkit on my PC, when the same thing is available for free?

Would orange box have sold here as much if they had priced it at 47ish $ as opposed to 999Rs?

demand has its own way of getting its own supply, especially when the scarcity is artificial. If only the people who priced and delivered the product sensibly , then we'd see a lot more people buying.

People moves towards pirate only because they can't afford for huge prices of GENUINE Softwares, Games or whatever..

Think, if the developers keeps pricing low, almost everyone will think to have taste of License..

Just take a look @ GTA IV thing.. It was priced between 300 to 500, lots of gamers took the original Game. Now look @ PS3 games, almost every game costs above 1k, though rich PS3 owners buy it, many of Gaming geeks are waiting for PS3 mod.

That's the reality.. I respect GENUINE :bleh: but I luv Piracy coz I can't afford for orignal stuff

I work for a BPO and earn enuff to buy OG Games, but why shud i?

Games are easily available on warez and Torrents so do you think we are ch''' to spend 1000-1500 bucks for a single game?

Just for eg movie like Phoonk, Chandi Chowk, Tasveer 8x10, etc etc

Is it really worth spending 150-200rs in theatre. A big Noooooooooooooooooo.

So ppl wait for torrent files and download it and watch it at home.

Same goes for Music as well.

Eg- Jai Veeru starring Fardeen and Kunal Khemu-Movie is pathetic and music is also pathetic excluding one song- "Tenu Le"

So do you want us to purchase the Jai Veeru Original Music CD..Bullshit.

Take eg. of students like us.. We're getting little pocket money for month/week. We've to spend it on Mobile recharge, khanaa peena and other stuffs.. Can we spend all the money on single game/software?

We buy it if Game/Software pricing is very low (e.g. GTA IV, McAfee or Norton antivirus, special discounts on educational softwares for students etc.. )

Being pirate is not proud, being GENUINE user is what to proud yourself. I bought some games from steam and other sources.. I am proud and get pure fun of playing these.. We get that happiness when we use softwares for what we've SPEND OUR MONEY... :hap2:

Nice...but you should remember people... piracy is ...agree to it... insignificant in our lives... NO ONE CARES... its a fact...

i say this coz i know folks who can easily foot a bill of 10k bill for software's and still dont... it hurts me to say but some are top dogs in...wait for it....S/w companies... ...

You are a student and u get pocket money does not mean you cannot buy..Instead of wasting time here and there earn money from Internet from buy OG Games and Software.

I also have a PS3, i buy selective titles, once every 2-3 months.

I buy games on steam which are sometimes a great deal on their weekend pricing, and once in a blue moon, a game is priced right such as the orange box and GTA 4.

On Movies, I think there are good cheap option available now, at least hindi - moserbaer with its pricing has changed the scene, and I do see a lot of commoners buying DVD's if not atleast VCD's. I do pirate english movies due to lack of effective pricing. Its not that i dont own any originals, I do, But i gave up on those on discovering the HD format.

Music, I wholeheartedly pirate. CD's cost too much, I think an Itunes like option for under 10 rupees a song should be available, without which there is no better option for me.

Czar you do know, that those number in itself dont mean anything. What would be a lil meaningful, if we had internet users of all countries and take the ratio of pirate bay users over internet penetration.

But even that number is meaningless, as it doesnt take into account the numerous hotspots where pirated software is sold freely as some normal apparel merchandise. Not to forget the penetration of legit software amongst computer users. How many of your personal contacts have legit software, and how many have pirated ones!!

And bad mouthing ourselves is not a fav past time, its the otherway round over praising ourselves is a fav past time. Where we are at fault, its fair enough to take a blame. The fact is piracy is just too convenient for us, and we would have to change our computer usage lifestyle drastically, if we went legit. The only way for that attitude to change, is make the convienence an inconvience.
