If you like Cartoons and animation (who doesn’t?) you’ll love this news. CartoonChoas (CC), one of the first and oldest specialized cartoon torrent trackers currently online, has opened public signups for a limited period of time. CC tracks a wide selection of toons ranging from those made in the golden age of American animation to hits in the modern era such as Family Guy. Most folks believe CC to be a general kids tracker with kids movies and live action shows but this is far from the truth. CC is a *pure* toon tracker - cartoons (both kids and mature) are the only thing you’ll ever find on this site (kids content is moved to CC’s sister site TorrentKids). Anyways it’s not everyday CC opens registrations to the public – if you were looking forward to get in, today is your lucky day.
Although a niche tracker, CartoonChaos boasts some decent statistics both in terms of users as well as torrents. As of 13/3/2010 there are around 1450 registered members and 2250+ active torrents indexed on this site. The smaller user base might be explained by constantly closed signups and regular pruning of inactive accounts – as with any tracker, you’d want to be active if you are to survive on CC.

As we stated in the first paragraph, CC is all about cartoons. The site tracks a wide range of animated content related to the following categories:

The number of torrents (~2200) wouldn’t look like a lot especially if you are an experienced torrenter. However, one shouldn’t forget that majority of the indexed releases are full season packs or complete series torrents which amount to a lot of content that span across hundreds of individual episodes.
CC runs on the xbtit tracker script which is somewhat dated. Obviously, the look and feel does not have the polish found in a Gazelle based tracker but if it helps, there are about a dozen themes that you can use to customize the layout of CC.

Signups for this tracker are currently open. Howeveer we do not know for how long the doors would remain open – on the site IRC channel it’s mentioned “Signups OPEN for a short period only!!”.

About four months ago we reported about the launch of BIT-UNITED (BU), a new gazelle based private BitTorrent tracker which indexed releases by HD encoder group UNIT3D. After a several weeks of testing, BU ended the beta last December and their public launch was a blast. Thousands of new members joined the site within a matter of days and it soon hit the maximum user limit, bringing an end to open registrations. If you were too late back then and couldn’t create an account on this tracker, here’s a second chance; BiT-UNiT3D has raised it’s user capacity and opened the doors to the public once again. If you are interested in downloading high definition movie encodes by team UNiT3D (which are not usually found on other HD trackers), you might want to check this site out.
BU is actually the sister site of HD-UNiT3D which is a DDL forum run by Team UNiT3D. UNiT3d is a P2P oriented High definition movie release group comprising of over 15 encoders. If you are unfamiliar with HD-UNiT3D forum and their internal encodes, we suggest you read this post first. BU was started as a sister project of the DDL forum. It’s aim too was to offer downloads to UNITED encodes – this time using the popular BitTorrent technology as opposed to one click hosting links provided by its sibling.
During the 3-4 months it has been online, BiT-UNiT3D has recruited close to 1500 active members and managed to index over 650 torrents (that is 600+ movies). Note that all of these releases are exclusive torrents unlikely to be found anywhere else. UNiT3D releases typically come in 720p, 480p or m-HD video formats (usually in a Matroska container) and all are uploaded in UnRAR’d form.

As mentioned at the start of this article, BiT-UNiT3D is currently open for signups. The site’s current user limit has been raised to 3000 which leaves more than 1000 free slots remaining.

Although overshadowed by Box in some cases, UKNova is another content rich British TV tracker that has been online for years. With around 35000 registered members it too has a decently sized user base. There are close to 2500 active torrents at the time of this posting and these are indexed across 5 main categories; TV entertainment, fiction, factual (mainly news and documentaries), radio and miscellany. UKNova is built on a custom tracker script and looks very different from your average private tracker. However it has all the major features of a torrent site including category based search, torrent bookmarking, RSS, forums and chat.

Just like The Box, UKNova too has very volatile open signups. Doors tend to open and close on a very frequent basis. Right now it’s open for signup but by the time you read this post, it may be a different story. If this is the case, try again later – you’ll almost certainly catch it open within the day if you keep trying.

Right now there are about 1500 active torrents indexed and this number keeps growing daily. Site is built on TS Special Edition tracker script which most of you might familiar.

Thankfully, TotalChoas signups seem to remain open for an extended amount of time. Albeit usually a closed community, TC has been in open registration mode for the last couple of days. If you are interested in British TV shows, Radio shows, movies, documentaries and lifestyle related shows, it’s a decent tracker to have.

When The Dark Syndicate (TDS) entered the BitTorrent scene several months ago (September 2009 to be precise) , it quickly grabbed the attention of veteran torrenters. This was largely due to the fact that TDS had a strong connection with Araditracker, a BitTorrent legend. Although by no means a reincarnation of Aradi, TDS had many ex Araditracker staff members among its crew. It started out as a General tracker with a focus on community and TDS has by now expanded into a fully fledged private torrent site with the addition of new features including an autouploader bot, a fully functional ratio free tracker implementation and several other community features such as IRC channels and radio. When TDS initially launched, it didn’t prefer much publicity. The site didn’t stay open for long and became invite only after a short period of time. Focus was to build a tracker with a tight knit community, with preference given to active users rather than tracker collectors. Now, around six months since launch, TDS’s active user base hovers around 800-900 mark. They have active forums, IRC channels, a radio and in short have a pretty decent community.
Content and tracker features have also improved at TDS over time. A new autouploader bot has been added to automate and speed up the process of uploading scene releases to the tracker. The bot however was tweaked (even based on member input) to minimize uploading of spam releases – quality over quantity. The addition of autouploader does not mean TDS uploader team has retired. They too still upload to the tracker and do an awesome job at filling user requests. TDS request completion ratio currently stands at '94.59%.
If you aren’t aware, TDS has by now become a fully ratio free site. Users are no longer required to maintain a global ratio. They are however needed to seed back each torrent to 1:1 OR 72 hours whichever is possible.
Before we forget to mention, TDS is a family friendly BitTorrent tracker. There are no pornographic content indexed and even user Avatars are subject to certain rules; “Avatars must be safe for work, non-pornographic or semi-ponographic, and not even slightly offensiveâ€.

If you still haven’t got a Demonoid account here your chance to get one without begging for invites. This tracker’s download restrictions for non-members were relaxed and users are now able to download 5 torrents (max) per day without having to log in. However, if you want the the full ‘green demon’ experience, having an account on this site is a must. Demonoid tracks all sorts of content ranging from movies to comics and is one of the most resourceful torrent trackers in existence.

Henteles is currently open for registrations. Assuming they are to remain open till the current max user limit is reached, there are around 4000 free slots remaining. If you are looking for a new Horror tracker, check this site out.

The site we’re going to talk about today, Henteles, is another private tracker specializing in horror movies, TV shows and even games with violent content (yay!). It’s a relatively new entrant to this niche but is well worth trying out if you are into Horror, cult and sleaze genres. With its roots in Hungary, Henteles tracks both Hungarian and English content.
Launched not too long ago, this site has already attracted a reasonable number of registered users – currently there are close to 3500 members which is a pretty good statistic for a niche tracker. Their torrent index too has grown during the first few weeks since launch and currently Henteles tracks close to 1000 active torrents.
As mentioned above, all indexed torrents on Henteles relate to the Horror genre. This includes TV shows, movies and horror themed games. Note that some of the available releases are dubbed in Hungarian – however, you can easily identify English and Hungarian torrents separately by filtering using the categories (press the ‘Kategoriak’ button on browse page to view list of categories).
Henteles is based on the TBDEV tracker script but it’s customized to give the site a darker look and feel. Some of you might find the customizations fitting to a horror tracker but some might find the interface to be cluttered and less organized. Additionally, interface language defaults to Hungarian and there is no way to change is to English – while non Hungarian users will still manage to navigate the site just fine, it’d have been nice to have an English language option as well.

We bring you hot news from ScienceHD – if you were looking forward to get into this awesome Science Fiction & documentary torrent tracker, this could be your lucky day. SHD have made some changes to their policy on new member recruitment and have opened up to the public. That’s not to say the site is open for registration – but interested members are now able to apply for a free invite through an online forum which has been made available by SciHD staff. Good news here is that the invite apps do not seem to be designed to screw members who are new to torrenting. If you have a genuine interest in sciences, science fiction or documentaries and plan to be an active member of this community (not just a collector), you actually have a pretty good chance of getting in.

Good news, everyone!

After lengthy discussions, we've decided to reverse ourselves on the position that we recently established, regarding how hard it's going to be to get into ScienceHD. We initially decided to go into lockdown in large part due two reasons: the abuses of many of our users, and security risks. Our ultimate goal is the sharing of knowledge, though, so this was a very hard choice to make, and we're very glad to be able to open up again. We've been hard at work behind the scenes, implementing new security features and reorganized things, and these new changes have alleviated many of our previous concerns regarding security and bad users, among other things.

Now, ScienceHD won't be fully open registration, though. Here is how things will now stand:

•There will be a questionnaire, open to all interested parties, to sign up with. Unlike our Gravmas event, this invite questionnaire will always be open. It will be reviewed manually by staff to decide whether an invitation will be extended.
•All registration and invite-sending will be subject to the Max User limit, although this will be raised and kept at a generally high level. No invites or registration will be allowed if the number of enabled users exceeds this value, with the exception that:
•PhD's and above will be able to send invites at any time.
•However, invites will remain fairly hard to get. They'll be given out for competition rewards, for notable contributions to the site, and possibly available for purchase at a high price in the future.

If you haven’t heard about SHD before, it’s a gazelle based private torrent tracker that specializes in Science Fiction and documentaries.

The invite applications should come in handy as there hasn’t been a open signup for this tracker in the recent past. Last time invite apps were opened was in December 2009, several months ago.
