In last month or so many housing societies in Pune have been blacklisting bachelors from renting the flats in their housing socities. Strict instructions have been given for people already staying to vacate the flats in next one / three months :-[
Seeing each other many more societies have been following suit. This thing surely has a great impact to many of the IT folks working here in Pune and staying with their roomies :@
Its not a government rule or something, but societies have taken this stand themselves.
I just pray this diktat does not come at my place :(

Anyone here staying in Pune with roomies and their society giving such notices ??

If you dig your own grave such rules are bound to be implemented :/

That is sort of generalization. Not all bachelors create nuisance. But yes you are true in saying that because of a small number of people others have to suffer :(

Like for example we have been living properly in our society for more than 4 years where 70% of the population is above 60 years of age. But there have been rarely any complaints against us except rarely TV volume being higher, that's it :)

there has some been some terrorist threats on residential societies so they are just trying to get safer i assume, in hyd , the security has been beefed up due to this

This is some wierd stuff .. How can the housign society dictate the OWner of the house whom to rent out the place and whom not to . If its my flat i can rent it out to anyone. Can they do anything about it? the cause of concern here is if the owner has 2-3 flats and lives in the same society .. They might ostracize him then

This has been only because of nuisances created by bachelors and not related to terrorism.

Yes people are trying to form groups and file a complaint against the society and take possible legal action. But it all matters if they have sizeable number of people coming forward.

Not if you are living in a housing society/ buildings with multiple houses. Since the houses are close together and a lot of things are shared by the people, people do have a say in what kind of people the houses are rented out to as also in many other things. Many housing societies even have committees which govern what goes on in the complex. Just because its your flat doesn't mean you can rent it out to anyone you please to. How would you feel if you are living with your family in a flat and your neighbor decides to rent out his flat to a dangerous goon who gets drunk and creates nuisance at night. Obviously you wouldn't want your neighbor to have such a tenant since it affects you as well.

As for bachelors not being allowed in residential areas with families, this is not even a new trend. It happens here in my city all the time. BHK style Houses are never rented out to bachelors and What bachelors get are rooms in the top floors of buildings where even water supply is a problem in summers. There are also weird rules imposed at many places like you need to be in by 10 PM since they lock the gate at that time and you would have to sleep somewhere else if you are late than that.

Me and my roomie were asked to leave our previous rented accommodation because some crazy family decided to rent out the hell hole beside our room in the top floor of the house. It was the kind of place that not even a decent bachelor would rent out and yet this family wanted to live there and they had a problem with us living in the neighboring room.

Coincidentally, The previous scum who rented that hell hole were two bachelors who supposedly worked as customer care executives and they were forcefully made to leave after me and someone from the opp house complained about them. It so happened that one day when the land lord and his family were not home, these guy's brought one of their female colleagues (she was a colleague from what I understood from their convo) to the room. She was probably somewhat of a loose character and either one or both of them had sex with her and then they threw a couple of used condoms in our trash can instead of their own so that they cannot be blamed. Now what kind of family would want to have such people in their houses.

These are not rules but practices followed in most of the cities and most of the people are shy in renting their flats to becholers if that comes under some group housing!!

what nonsense, there are many decent bachelors, just type of stereotyping is just pure injustice, these people are just jealous of our bachelorhood, just cannot see other happy, file some legal action against them, this is just BS

Y dont you people see it as an opportunity As same rule applies to girls also .

Y dont you get a girl have some mutual understanding to stay together.

Hows that :)

@rakrules: Come to stay in my area... you'll get lotsa places.. Well the area I live in is not so preferred by outsiders / IT peeps so that's why maybe the no bachelors rule is not applied yet.

I stay off Kalewadi Phata. There are quite a few societies out here. Even Superczar stays nearby :bleh: You can try Wakad and Dange Chowk area as well.

Quite a few flats here in tvm have made this restriction as to single men n women staying.....due to the nocturnal activities.....and also due to the fear of it too

As if married men do not create a ruckus. They are just as bad. To wide a generalization, I guess this is. Sad.

I cannot really follow you on this because i am not sure of the Housing society Culture. I have stayed in apartments all my life in delhi but these were DDA not any private hence i have no clue. In DDA Apartments all they have is a Resident Welfare Association which takes care of functioning of the overall Apartment complex. Suppose an owner rents out an apartment to a anti social element , if we complain ;then owner simply chucks him out. No harm done to either of the parties. What i am trying to say is that if the Bachelors do some unsocial activities in the apartment complex then the ppl can always complain to the Owner which will result in these bachelors having to vacate the house. But just banning them outright from taking an accomodation is pretty stupid.

Do you know what the reasons are ?

I can see the point for particular troublesome cases but generalising seems a bit odd.

The only reason i can come up with is ppl in those buidlings might be thinking of selling soon so they get a better asking price if there are no bachelors in the building.
