Rate the Last Movie You Saw...

^ What happened is Kashyap made a movie which actually turned out to be 5hrs+ and they released it as Part I and II , and watching just Part I which actually has no proper plot or a story line is not that great a experience but both the movies together make a lot of sense and full of awesomeness :D

I ve seen Battle Royale, it had a unique story line and it was shot brutally, but still not quite enough to keep you enthralled throught. I would give that 6.5/10.

Watched Get the Gringo today, Mel Gibson back to what he does best! 7.5/10.
Superman vs The Elite - 7/10.
kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut - Brilliant all the way 9/10.

Gangs of wasseypur part 1+2 - 10/10

unnecessary sex scenes?? i don't know why it was unnecessary ?? it all lies with the story and its characters...
and swearing; i found it realistic...that's how gangster talk, don they??

Yups I know that, it was shot quite lengthy. I just feel that the sex and family scenes would have just kept it neat and trim. We see the coal mine mafia and how it progresses with India as a young nation. They dynamics of the different groups/trades of Muslim populations. And then suddenly we see bedroom scenes and seduction. It just broke the rhythm for me. To be honest.

I explained my logic for writing that above. Probably they felt it enhanced the characters, but I felt otherwise. The swearing. He he. Most of UP and the bordering Bihar belt speak language like that. But it just did not gel with the movie, even if it was about the low hackles of society, fringe people. Plugging in swear words, and creating a seamless dialogue interaction is quite difficult. They just seemed, "sprinkled" in. :)

Firstly, This is not facebook.
Secondly, not liking the 'real' language from your so called dictionary doesnt makes anybody any less in any capacity.

Refrain from making such absurd comments.

Thanks for reminding me that I'm not on facebook. Secondly, real language consists of cuss words. People who're put in dangerous situations have shit happening all around them, may it be soldiers or gangsters. And guess what they use when they're in such situations, cuss words, a lot of them. It's not a matter of liking, it's a matter of being authentic. Poor use of cuss words in some movies is really bad, but not in the movie which we're discussing on. I never told that anyone is any less in capacity, they might be the greatest person on earth and I assure you that I hold no such honour, but they're still pussies.

And there was nothing absurd in my comment, it was actually related to the topic which I was speaking on.

Till the time your caffeine level comes down, or maybe till you grow up..

And do you really find people in your house speaking some 'real' stuff when the going gets tough..?

Yes, but very rarely. I don't use any cuss words at home, nor do I use them much with friends. But some of my friends and neighbours use them pretty much every time, and I used to think it was a bad thing to do. But thanks to you I've grown up now and realised that I'm in no position to judge them based on the language they're using. It's just a part of their culture and they way they've been brought up. It makes them no less of a human being than me, it just a f*cking choice of expression.

I felt they were put in poorly, and it hampered the dialogue delivery of the movie. That is happening a lot with the movies which are 'set' in Eastern UP and Bihar these days. There is no need for that. Not that I do not swear or use those words. But in Wassypur 1, they looked out of place to me, and put in just for the affect. Did it succeed. Not really. They same thing could have been done with amalgamation of Hindi/Urdu/and Bhojpuri lingua franca systems. It would have seemed just as nice and pleasing. Also some of the words they used, are quite "slang" in nature. They seemed 'out-of-time'. I doubt they were as prevalent during the setting. It just did not make sense. It is not that, the swear words hurt my ears, but they seemed wrongly placed, i.e. not needed.

And there was nothing absurd in my comment, it was actually related to the topic which I was speaking on.
The one about "going back in the hole", was totally uncalled for. Which I have reported, and it should be purged soon...! :)

How can you judge a ganster movie with a gentleman's or decent thinking ? .
We all are gentlemen here isnt it ? :bleh:
But the point the guy is trying to put forward is gangsters dont use decent language , all that swearing and scenes etc all are efforts to make it look authentic .
Imagine a ganster saying to his partner " Kripa karke apni banduk nikaliye , hume un mahanubhav to swarg pahuchana hain " ,
I guess that would make you feel happy aint it .

And in tense situations people do panic and talk what they should not , you might say " Oh ! shit " , a street ganster wont ! .
Where is the comparison family members and gansters ? .

It is not about gentleman talk, or slander talk. It is about fitment. I felt they did not fit in.

What you wrote, could be:
"khatam kar de in sab ko" or; "in sab ka kaam tamaam kar do"

There are so many movies on Mumbai gangsters, and mafia in Delhi. No, swear words are used. Or do only people in Bihar/UP swear. Haha

That's what I was trying to see and this gentleman had to bring in my character and my family. I once went to Shivajinagar area in Bangalore and some of the slang they use might seem offensive to you, but it's their daily talk. And these guys are not even gangsters, just a random joe doing their job and getting on with life.

Thanks for the clarification.

When I say very rarely, I really mean that. And the offensive words are nothing like the ones you think, more like very mild ones, like pig or dog in their hindi forms. It's just a language after all and everyone uses it.

I was once playing cricket and the ground in our college was uneven. Rushing to catch a ball I didn't see the ground below and had my ankle twisted, I used so many cuss words in that moment that I didn't even know what I was talking in that pain. Later I found out that there were multiple fractures. Just imagine what a soldier who's been shot or worse, stepped on a mine would fell like. It's an intense form of language. I'm not defending it, but am saying that it just happens and when it is shown in proper context in movies, it really brings out the reality of the ground situation, and I like to see that in movies.

Well if you found they did not fit in or was over done , then its a different matter . I read your clarification after I had posted .
Then its seems fine .

No that is too gentle , phrases seem to be from Gabbar Singh's era . Just by hearing those I feel that its not some gangster but some thief try to be a wanna be .
But again we all have our imagination as to what a gangster or tapori might be , most of us havent even been close to one , atleast not me . So that perception can highly vary , also am not very sure what words they would use , again using my perception .

Anyways I respect your opinion , wasnt putting you down or something . Just some healthy discussion , hope you ll agree .

Cheers .

Well I dont like to name people so just put everything up together , it was actually adressing two different people . Hope you did not mix them .
I agree , where does family come in the picture I fail to understand , whats the relation anyways .
In responding to something what someone perceives as offensive , he ll respond with an offense instead of explaining his point of view properly . This is just in sour taste .

In an interview Anurag Kashyap said that film expenditure went more than 18 crore, which was more than expected. And he knew that movie could not generate that much revenue. Thus they decided to launch movie in two parts so that they can invade viewers pocket twice can can fetch more money..
Those unwanted scene (though I loved the movie, there were some not required scenes) must be part of extending movie time

Some say it was too long (5+ hours) for Indian Cinemas hence it was devided into two parts.
