3. how will a amp + speaker combo be for sound system? i mean for gaming, i use it for music n movies. I have Onkyo s7200, its awesome. Will it be good for gaming too/
4. Monitor seems a bit small to me, cant i buy something bigger?
5. Whats the process of building a PC, i know i will have to go to that piss drenched Nehru place, i know few shops there too but i dont want to go there, they know me n my friend too well. You are from Mohali i can see but just in case you know any good shop there then pls let me know.
1. When you are talking about storage for a gaming system, the amount of storage is as important as its performance. Solid state drives are fast, but they are very limited in terms of storage capacity and too damn costly to boot. So I would rather suggest a high capacity drive with decent performance like the Western Digital Caviar Black series.
2. Cosmos is a mediocre cabinet for its price and the gaming version Cosmos-S is a lot worse than the original. Further a gaming cabinet is not just about good looks, but also about how how well it manages to keep the components cool and how easy it is to work with. Btw, You might want to take a look at Lian Li cabinets as well.
3. For gaming, a 5.1/7.1 Surround speaker setup is more suited than stereo ones setups used for music. But that's again a matter of choice and opinion. If your BF used to late night gaming sessions, then a good pair of headphones would be more appropriate.
I have been looking for headphones myself and I finally ended up ordering JVC HA-RX900 Headphones along with an Astro A40 MixAmp. A40 MixAmp does Dolby Headphone (A virtual Surround Algo) from a Dolby Digital soruce. Alternatively the X-Fi Sound Card I suggested has the CMSS3D Headphone feature which simulates virual surround on stereo headphones.
Audio Technica AD700 is a better choice for headphones for gaming according to many users if you can tolerate sound leakage from headphones.
4. I suggested the Dell U2410 because its an S-IPS panel. These panels have the best viewing angles and color reproduction compared to the typical cheopo monitors in the market. If you want a bigger monitor, then have a look at Dells 27" and 30" range. The 27" is not a S-IPS panel though.
5. My usual dealer here is Amarbir of Lynx Computers. He is a member and registered dealer on these forums. However if you are Delhi, you might want to get the stuff locally.
