Me a noob to cars :ashamed: besides drooling at fancy italian cars in red, Havent really given much of a thought about cars practically , cos i was, am, and will be a biker :hap2:

but apparently reality dictates that we get a car for the family, and dad's decided to (finally) get a car.

the budget is about (and preferably less than ) 3L, and criteria?

It should be rugged! the road to our house is incredibly cramped , and unbelievably bad .
should be easy to drive ( dad's gonna use it , and he wants to reach the office relaxed :) )
no second hands.

I know there are a zillion other places where i should ask this , but just wanted to know what you guys think :)

3 lakhs is a bit less.... I would suggest you spend a bit extra and get the Santro.... or Zen Estilo.

I would prefer the Santro though...

well the roads to our locality are incredibly bad and are still getting developed. I dont think that buying a nice car now and spoiling it by using it on bad roads now is wise.

Probaby will be getting something else once i get my own cash flow going ;)

till then dad wants something to drive around in thats cheap and functional, and can take the abuse :)

Well for Santro Xing dont worry...the backseat will be as bumpy even if its a smooth road with minor holes :P

I think Indica would handle best......as per my experience

i vote for indica as well .. should fit in your budget and very easy to get it serviced considering the no of travels using them

i think i should have been a bit more specific :ashamed:

i wanted to know if the cars can handle the abuse

i would have recommended the old zen since i used it for 3 years on the worst roads ever with hard driving. it had dents and dings all over but no issues with engine or suspension
i think indica should be able to handle abuse as well but QA has always been a prob with tata with some minor niggles turning up after about 50k kms usage

To handle the abuse why don't you go for a Hummer ?

Dont know about 3L but maybe 3C.....:P:P

Jokes apart ofcoure they cant handle it and give you an absolute smooth performance.....but best they can is atleast make sure u stay INSIDE the car lol

The indica has better suspension than the santro or the wagon r and also more space ... however the latter two will be a bit more trouble free in the long term and also faster (if that counts) :)

hmm seems the indica has a lot of supporters :)

how does it compare to the santro and the M800 / Alto?

speed/comfort/looks is a non issue

ruggedness . reliablity , ease of use , and vfm decide :)

M800 is not in business now as much as it was before.....

Alto.....no thanks when you can go for India/Santro/Wagon R

The I/S/WR can hold 5 ppl comfortable while in Alto you will have to squeeze in

Santro

Wagon R

Indica

In that order... Easy to drive... Easy to get serviced... Relatively cheap Spares...

If you want a realy comfortable car and dont care much about petrol consumption then a Palio... Its a petrol guzzler but its a fun car to drive... I own one and i toally love it when its full on gas... Even the cheapest varient is better then all the cars mentioned above...

Wagon R : Great to drive and the best part is that since its a Maruti car, if ever there's a problem, the nearest service center is close by and the spares cheap.. :P

I would recommend Santro, cos IMO it gives better mileage than wagonR, has MUCH better looks, IS more fun to drive than WagonR.

Indica is also a good car but it has a problem when driven over 50k kms , also it has a lower resale value than the cars mentioned above.

Maruti will any day command the highest resale value out of all the 3 mentioned above.

Yeah but trust me....i have Xing and Corolla and the Xing has broken my spinal cord atleast 10 times now......backseat so bad
