It might be that they are shutting down in phases and the tower nearest to you might have been shutdown. You might be getting range from some far away tower which is still working.

Appreciate the thought (that's why you got a like from me) but too much headache just to check 4G.

I think buying a lyf phone just for this is kind of a bummer. This could mean 4G charges which Jio seems to be rumored to have is being subsidized through the phone sale.

Really generous of you to share this, but grabbing the lyf phone first up kills the momentum right there. If it was only the sim, would have jumped in a flash. No brainer stuff really.
