I also have the same 450TC1 modem cum router, any other way it can be used in Reliance connection ???

Which modem/router do reliance give & at what cost ???

Also please suggest some other Cheap n best modem cum router which will work with reliance.

No way as far as I have tested. Some more tricks are left to try out but chances are very low. Reliance gives a white ZTE (chhotu & cute sa router) with FTTH connection.

I already said no modem+router "combo" will work with Reliance, you'll HAVE to get separate modem+router. You'll get both within 2k, what's the big deal ?

No, it can't be used. I guess Reliance probably isn't rolling out ADSL anymore, so these modems can't be used with anyone except Airtel, MTNL and BSNL (and in some areas, Tata).

Reliance probably won't provide a router on the Metro Ethernet connections (where you get direct Cat5 cable) since it's not strictly needed. You can pick up routers on the open market for under 2k as has been mentioned (I like the Netgear WGR614 or the Asus RT-N10E is also OK). Do NOT get anything that includes an "ADSL modem" as it will not work, and do NOT go for D-Link (I've had too many problems with various models).
 
^Reliance provides modem (at least in all cases I've seen) in FTTH, and Cat5 cable is used is provided by Reliance irrespective of the nature of plan (FTTH or not).

I don't know its price as its provided by Reliance itself after security deposit, and its a "modem", not a router. Still, it shouldn't cost more than 1k.

why wouldn't a modem router won't work when the router has adsl and direct ethernet capabilities I'm talking abt dlink 2750u

Reliance broadband uses pppoe/pppoa with MER(mac encapsulation routing) making it different from normal pppoe without MER which is used by ISP's like BSNL & airtel. What this means is that it is not possible to save the login info in modem/router & then get connected by simply turning on the modem/router like in case of bsnl or airtel. Although login can be automated by using script (mostly python based) in ddwrt (and the likes) routers, but still cable based connection with type doesn't works. You're connected to the WAN directly through the modem and can access the net only after authorisation.

PS: Try pinging local gateway in a Reliance connection, you'll get some shocking results.

PPS: I may be wrong in putting my theory behind how Reliance works.

Yes of course, because most computers don't have Fibre NICs. But that's not what we're talking about here.

It's a little more than that. FTTH gear isn't so cheap.

Because while there are 4 ethernet ports on the LAN side, the WAN connection is ADSL. It doesn't have the ability to send traffic to the Internet via those LAN ports.

PPPoA only applies to *DSL, and in DSL the authentication credentials are port-bound at the DSLAM (you can use any modem on that line so long as it sends the right User ID and password that is associated to that line (that is to say, you can't use your own credentials at a friend's house even if they have an ADSL line too). This is not unique to Reliance, it's part of the DSL standard.

PPPoE applies to the FTTB style of connections where you have an Ethernet cable coming to your network card or router. Whether the MAC binding is turned on or not doesn't matter - it means that the username is bound to the MAC ID of the interface that connected first - so if you previously had just a cable coming to your PC and then you install a WiFi router, you can either ask Reliance to reset the MAC binding *or* you can spoof the MAC in the router. But what's great about FTTB is that you can take your router anywhere on that local network, plug it in, and expect it to work. I regularly take my own router to prospective clients places (if they live in the same area) to demonstrate our speeds... but I can't take it to another part of the city because the physical network is different. This *would* apply to a Reliance Metro Ethernet connection.

802.1x is usually used for ISPs that utilize MAC-only authentication mechanisms, such as Hathway (used to, now they have a login page too) when you have those little Scientfic Atlanta media convertor (cable modem) that converts from Ethernet to RG-6.
 
Reliance is pathetic, im planning on switching from Reliance to other ISP, have very less options in my area, may get a BSNL landline and use thier connection, Reliance has very bad customer care service, they close cases without even calling thier customers and asking what happend
 
I've heard that reliance people take cheque and later on they say that they have no slot empty for this area or that area, they even give some stupid reasons also. And for how long do they block p2p?

May I know for which reason you tried to complain n u r not properly entertained?

Also mention your region/state.
 
they just called me to say only wimax is available in my area **** off ofcourse it will pressure other isp providers to lower rates
 
I have earlier called Reliance at 180030007777.
But few people come to my home today asking that which internet/broadband i m using?
I said Airtel then they asked plan details & then offer a pamphlet with all new Thunder plans of Reliance(549, 699, 1099 etc).

I told them that i have applied via toll free number, they said it will take time in that but we can instantly give connection here.
So i entertain them, took 549rs plan & paid them half yearly amount: 3770rs(via cheque) which includes all service tax, installation charges n all.
Apart from that PP pic, address proof, etc.
Also person told me I wont need any kind of hardware, the wire will directly go into my PC(Ethernet Cat5 cable).
He said, for WiFi i need to purchase Netgear N150 router.

Connection will get activated in 3 days after getting confirmation call but I opted for 5 days as I hav to disconnect my Failtel first.
Finally getting rid of Failtel after 5 years :D

Did you applied for disconnection of Failtel because from what i remember with my case last year that they will not let go their ignored customer easily.

You have to call their skilled CC again and again but they fail to understand the simple fact that the customer did not want their FUP'ed connection anymore :P

Same here, well almost. The dickhead that called me couldn't make up his mind if it was available or not. As always, he instantly suggested the Wi-Max and my answer same as before. MTNL is virtually feasbile in every known corner of this city, dunno why these private folks can't expand their range. I didn't expect this from such a huge player like Reliance. I mean, I remember speaking to them 3 year back with same suggestions and nothing has changed now either.
