So are you saying LG LH90 > Samsung LED LCDs

the LG LH90 is a local dimming set,but since it has a IPS panel it has poor blacks but with the local dimming the blacks are improved,it wont match the samsung black levels in pixel level.but if areas of black displayed is large then the LH90 can show better blacks.

Great! A whole lot of discussion that leaves me a whole lot confused :-|

Of course, I would never go to a showroom and do my comparison based on what they show me, but these chaps were running cable/dth content - one set showing star sports and the other showing colors. At the end of the day, a good 60% of the TV watching at home will happen with dth, so i thought this would be as good a comparison as anything else.

When i go with an intent to buy, i'll obviously take my own videos. I just happened to be there, got to look around for 5-10 mins, and those were my observations, that that LG LH90 looked way better on that SD content compared to any Sony around it. Again, i repeat, it was on stock settings and i didnt have the time to do anything with it, just looking. Somebody made a good point about that stock calibration thing up there, this obviously needs more investment.

Also, one more thing i notice is that the sony's website now includes an edge led tv in the nx series - NX700. Says "coming soon". Maybe that'll be the low end competition from Sony to this LG/Sammy products. But i suppose that'll be out of my price range, ie ~60-65.

:-(

Still confused

^ The thing is not only about DTH or SD/HD movie viewing but also about the factory calibration we touched upon. The Sony LCDs in Vijay Sales were all set to Vivid mode which made all skin color look light pink where it should have been white. So, whenever you check, do ensure that the picture mode is set to standard and play around with the settings a bit. Change Picture, Contrast, Brightness etc. You will see that it makes a lot of difference.

End of the day, you should pick up what you are happy with. From this long thread I'm pretty sure you got names of a few LCD/LED models. Go to any big showroom and play around with them for a while and see which you like.

Always remember, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!" and it stands true for LCD TVs as well. :)

well if u go to croma u will notice even the VU lcd used to be better then the sony or samsung, its all in the settings.

the LG LH90 is no doubt great ,the only lg model i have respect, not the SL90.
but for pure SD content the sony is the better option, its fine details are better.

the sony NX700 is part of the NX range where one pays the premium for good looking aesthectics, but if u want just the LED lcd then the upcoming EX600 and EX700 will be cheaper.

the NX700 also has bit more of USB playback capabilty it can play MPEG4 videos, while EX range can only play mpeg2.
the NX700 also has built in Wi-FI so u can play and stream videos from ur computer or access youtube videos directly from a wifi router/acces point.

where as the EX600/EX700 has optional USB based wifi dongle.

confused like me?

Na dude. I was almost certain on the 40EX500 but it appears that I'm going on a deputation to Bombay (dry docks more specifically) for an onsite work - got some ship repairs being done there and a team is being sent from here starting April 15th for expediting the work. Seems like the customer is very unhappy and the hasty decision came up in the afternoon. This TV might just gather dust if I buy one now.

I really felt sad but nvm, I can't seem to help it but respect my profession and go ahead with the decision. :( :'(

@adder: Extremely sorry man. But I owe you a lot!

on the plus side u will have more options latter like the samsung Cxxx series and the sony EX600,EX700 ranges.the tvs can drop by about 5% in price by around july/august.

^Heh going by the initial previews, I don't think the 40EX600 would retail anywhere less than 70k. :P

but your deputation allowance will allow you to increase budget above 70k :P

ps edit : i can help you knock off 2k easily from the price you got. looks like the brand you selected is selling like hot cakes here and very few resellers will give discounts. but i got some special links to exploits :D
