Graphic Cards RPTech offering 4070 in exchange of a 3060 Ti for 20K

A friend of mine gave his RTX 3060 Ti FE for RMA to rptech around 10 days ago which had around 8 months of warranty left. He received a call from rptech informing him that 3060 Ti is no longer in stock and they can offer him RTX 4070 in exchange of it by paying 20k extra.

He asked for my option and in turn I would like the opinion of the community regarding what you guys think of this deal?

1. Is it a good deal?
2. Or like me you think rptech is doing this just to clear their stock of RTX 4070 since now nobody is gonna buy that and everyone around that budget will opt for RTX 4070 Super only?
3. Should he ask if he can get RTX 4070 Super by paying a little more (difference in MRP of 4070 and 4070 Super is 6k I guess)
4. Should he ask for 4060 Ti without paying anything extra? (3060 Ti and 4060 Ti have pretty much same MRP)

Looking for some quick input as decision needs to be made within a day or two.

My friend got 4070 for 10k or so extra for his 3070FE which went for RMA.

20k is expensive but IMO it is an ok deal. Say you sell a used 3060Ti for 20k at best, then buy a used 4070 for maybe 40k, still you end up paying 20k for the upgrade. So my recommendation will be to make the upgrade. Ask them if they provide a full warranty on the upgraded card from the current date. So new bill & all.

IF RPTech is willing to provide 4070S at 26k extra, it is obviously a better deal.

Take the upgrade if it's a new card, with the remaining warranty carrying forward.

On the used market, a 3060Ti won't fetch you anything more than 17-19K. A new 4070 will cost much more, and used ones are rare.

NOT a worthy deal at all.

Say your friend bought 3060Ti for roughly 37k mrp 2 yrs ago and adding 20k it makes 56k today while still depreciating its value by 11-14k, its still worth near 23k or so.

The new 4060TI costs around 35k without additional discounts or offers!

Thus making that 20k ask literally unworthy! RPtech is trying to loot customers here by luring them with some 4xx card and noobish customers are always gonna fall for it thinking he is getting a 4xx card for a fraction of amount which actually isn't the case at all.

In fact, if you sell that 3060 today for even 18k, just by putting 17k you get a brand new aftermarket card with full 3-5yrs warranty thus saving your 3k which can be invested elsewhere!
A 4070 costs 55k so RPetch shall offer him 4070 roughly for 16k max!

There is also a significant performance difference between a 4060Ti and a 4070.

No 3060Ti is worth 23K today, 18K is the norm for a clean card w/warranty. Yes, he loses out on full warranty with the 4070, but he will still get a brand new card (I hope) + a sizeable performance upgrade.

For 35K, he won't get any (brand new) card that outperforms a 4070. Thus, taking into account 18k as the sale value of a 3060Ti, he's essentially getting a 4070 for 38K, whereas a new one off the shelf costs 60K+

This.

Assuming the 3060Ti was enough for your friends needs , considering the possibility of you'd get x for your card so add y and get a new card is unnecessary.

Card for a card is what I'd push for.
Ask your friend if he values a performance upgrade currently. If his 3060Ti was serving him fine (at 1080p I assume?), take the 4060Ti.

If he has a 1440p monitor and plays AAA games, then the 4070 makes much more sense.

Talked with Rptech today, 4060 Ti and 4070 Super both not available for exchange which essentially deepens my doubt that nvidia is just trying to clear the 4070 stock and then probably discontinue it.

they gave only two options-
1. Pay extra 20k and get 4070.
2. Wait for 2.5-3 months and receive replacement 3060 Ti.

However they confirmed on phone that the 4070 will be new card with new bill and will carry full 3 years of warranty, So will be going with that.

Yes, likely clearing the stock. Good enough deal indeed. Enjoy the upgrade.

I wonder what I'll get for my 3080ti FE RMA, its been sent to taiwan nvidia hq according to rptech. But yea about the 4070, if it'll carry full warranty then I dont see a reason not to get it for 20k

Get the 4070FE. RPTech offered me 4070 for my 3070FE for just 10k extra. 4070 really worth more than 3060ti as i am using this for 4k and you will get full 3 year warranty.

I hope you don't get a 4070 back, because even a 3080 is slightly faster than a 4070 overall :p

Enjoy the free upgrade
I highly doubt it's free. A 4080S is significantly faster than a 3080. Heck, even significantly faster than a 3090Ti.

There likely will be a differential to pay, since that card is essentially Nvidia's second-best offering.

This is some new age bullshit, what if someone dont wanna to pay extra or cant afford an upgrade.

It is free :), If I had 3080 I would've gotten a 4080 but since there's no 4080ti they offered super for the 3080ti
