got root somehow but generate_code.bat still fails with MCC/MNC lock: 00101 as output

nv_dat.bin is fcked on this phone. (basically seller messed efs partition)

waiting for seller to send me original if he has one..
 
^^ Have you tried to unlock using ADB shell and manually editing the nv_dat.bin ?

Step 2. - Retrieve nv_data.bin file

use "adb shell" or a terminal emulator to get a terminal prompt and run the following commands

cat /efs/nv_data.bin >> /sdcard/nv_data.bin

Step 3. - Edit nv_data.bin file

mount the internal SD Card on your computer

make a backup copy of the nv_data.bin file on your computer

using your favorite HEX editor open the nv_data.bin on the sdcard

jump to address 0x181468

you should see a string like this

ff 01 00 00 00 00 46 46

there are 5 different types of locks in 5 different bytes

the FF byte should be left alone

the first byte after the FF is the network lock

the next byte is the network subset lock

the next byte is the sp lock

the next byte is the cp lock

the last byte appears to be a data lock.

the 46 46 should be left alone

Change any 0x01 to 0x00 (or 0x00 to 0x01 to lock for warranty)

save and close file

unmount SD Card

Step 4. - Replace nv_data.bin file

I want to say it again so no one misses it MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR NV_DATA.BIN FILE BEFORE YOU CONTINUE!!!!!

rm /efs/nv_data.bin.md5

cat /sdcard/nv_data.bin >> /efs/nv_data.bin

chmod 755 /efs/nv_data.bin

yup all that done.

even corrupted imei.

now restored and done the unlock hardway :p

actually corrupting imei n then coming back to original nv_data with modified flags did the trick :)

if any of you guys have issues with generating codes from script will have to go through this.

had to 1st make my own unlock code by editing hex values for the same in nv_data

had set Network Lock value set to 00 (off) in t he same nv_data

pushed this to efs partition..

which unlocked the phone and deleted all backup nv_data files due to bad imei.

phone was unlocked but unsuable to to corrupt imei

so pushed the original (the one i backed up) nv_data with network lock flag = 00 again to efs partition.

removed battery so that phone doesnt replace anything on its own :p

booted..

network working now :)

as for those who have unlocked.

the lock screen still says phone locked..i'm assuming it is for 'screen locked'

is this same with all you guys?

or do i still have to get things to work.

i'm concerned because the nck codes, freeze codes are still in garbage value on the nv_data and the issue may come back to haunt me with new rom.

someone with unlocked captivate on 2.1 please confirm this. Thnx

but the codes are still crapped.

there has been no Network Code Key or Freeze Code eky.

I'm afraid i would be stuck again if anything wrt efs gets fcked.

i have requested backup from seller though.

have been on this for past 5-6hours.. now time to go out :p

i am gonna speak with aramex if they can undervalue tablets too..the custom duty on them is 15% and i really wanna get one..

You don't need Aramex to do that - just ask your seller to include a proper invoice with lower value. Also, instead of declaring it as gift he may declare it as "replacement for defective item under warranty" which has no commercial value but a value of something believable like 100$ should be declared for Customs purpose.

so went ahead with it.

btw which is the fastest rom for captivate?
 
my friend is continuously asking me to get 1 for him, can some1 assist me through the procedure, he created aramex shop and ship account 2 days back,

Also if some1 can put some good deals will be very helpfull
