Samsung Galaxy Note - Discussion Thread

That is just what I wanted to hear. Thank you.

Will look into it ASAP.
If you have laptop / netbook / ipad , take these pics with you to the service centre. Service centre are usually very well lit, so it might not be visible there. Show them how it looks in dark.

How does Stock (Official) ICS perform on the Note? Are there any issues to be worried about. Trying to decide between Galaxy Note and Galaxy S3.

Bad battery life, this was it which made me switch over to CM9 and also if you are concerned, the eMMc bug has already bricked too many notes.

Please check a few posts before about someone else who had battery life, wiped and started afresh and it completely changed! And as for the bug, who with the stock version has had the misfortune ? And only wipe via cwm has ended in brick, not the stock wipe from within the OS

I am still essentially on stock ICS with root. No custom ROM. and so far so good. Battery life : I didnt notice any substantial change from GB. It still lasts me one day of heavy use (3-3.5hours of screen time) with plenty of juice left. I have not gone below 25% on my use so far.
No obvious bugs as such. As usualy only tweak I have done is disable the weather sync (I have set it to refresh only when I go to weather app ) and most importantly disabled lock screen sound. (this is a must do)

Guys have bought Mahesh's note, which came pre installed with a GB based Rocket ROM. Apparently the ROM has few issues:
1. If I enable the CRT on/off effect, randomly the screen rotates 180' but the touch alignment remains same. Only option is to restart the phone.
2. S Pen apps are not working, I really need to press down on Spen to get it registered on the touchscreen.

Freaky advised me to move on to stock ICS. Which one should I move onto (Indian version)? And what are the chances in hardbrick.

If you want proper S-Pen functionality I suggest Stock ICS.

Your best bet is to download the latest Gingerbread (LC1 I believe) for India. Install using Odin. From the PHONE, Perform a factory reset and also format USB storage. Then install ICS using the Download, install and rooting instructions from xda-developers.

I personally cannot recommend a custom ICS rom at the moment due to my fu#$all experience with Kingdroid ICS 2.0.

If you don't care about the S-Pen too much then just go with CM9 or PA

Guys, please help me. My note lags like crazy while doing simple things like opening contacts, dailer, messages and while screen unlock. The lag is so terrible it takes almost 5-7 seconds to open contacts or dailer. All other apps also lag a bit while opening. And transitions are a bit jerky all over. Im completely frustrated. I have tried numerous resets from settings and also wipe from stock boot menu. Even a 10k worth android phone doesnt lag like this at contacts etc. :( Im on stock ICS and the case was same with stock GB too.

In your power / battery settings check if you have enabled power saving. Untick it if it is enabled. And if it does not solve the issue, do the factory reset.
Also in developer options select "Force GPU rendering" option. It should smooth out the UI globally.

^ I already tried reset numerous times. But what do I say to the guy at the service center? It is like it takes 5-7 secs to open contacts and then it opens fast for another 2 minutes or so. As if the app is in the memory(RAM). After that it is back to normal lag. What do I do if he says such lag is normal?

@Shripad Powersaving is off and I did enable GPU acceleration in my quest to make the UI tolerable :-(

Umm step 1 not gone correct. I had downloaded a stock Indian ROM, and I tried flashing it through Odin, but the phone just keeps restarting. The ROM i tried was :

N7000XXKK3 ------ 2.3.5 2011 November------ N7000ODDKK1 ------------------------India -------------------------Download

I have also downloaded the stock ICS ROM, should I try flashing to it, or should I download another GB ROM and try flashing to GB, and then move onto ICS.

How many files were there in the zip? any chance you selected repartitioning without PIT file?
Odin flashes very rarely go bad.
And you can directly go to ICS without any issue through ODIN.
Ideally I would suggest flashing the LPY ICS update with the PIT file and repartitioning and bootloader files selected. This gives your phone a new bootloader which only came with LPY. Indian ICS update did not include the newer bootloader. (Once you update your bootloader, you can then switch to any other ICS rom including the Indian official ICS )

If you flashed the KK1 update without PIT file, and by selecting the repartitioning option, it can lead to bootloop. You can still recover by just repartitioning with PIT file selected in ODIN. (You can use the PIT file from LPY on gingerbread as well, no issues )

From my Note, in your face!

Shripad: The ROM file just had one .tar file named:
N7000XXKK3_N7000ODDKK1_N7000DDKJ3_HOME.tar.md5

I had followed the instructions mentioned here:
xda-developers - View Single Post - [STOCK ROMS] N7000 All stock ROMs + install + Root guide All at 1place,Latest ICS LP9

It said if there is a single file just put it in PDA, only Auto reboot, and F.reset Time were selected in Odin. Where did I go wrong? I am coming from GB based Rocket Rom.

The ICS file I have downloaded is: N7000DDLP8_N7000ODDLP5_INU

I am downloading another GB based ROM from Singapore: N7000XXKL3_N7000ODDKL1_INU.zip

@Aces170
i would suggest you flash the indian ics directly onto your device using odin. then boot into recovery and wipe.
this is only if you want a stock rom. tbh i would suggest cm9 or its derivatives. i am personally on paranoid android and im loving it.

Was able to flash to a Europe GB stock ROM, once through that flashed to stock Indian ICS ROM. Have rooted the device (what is the point n rooting?) Can I uninstall Samsung bloatware if the device is rooted?

Edit: BTW I had not done any sort of factory reset, but most of my files (not applications) is intact even after flashing two different ROMS. So I assume the flashing does not necessarily perform a format. And what should I definitely do or not do before flashing a custom ROM (don't think will do so immediately)?
