Android keeps gaining popularity and followers throughout the cell phone industry and manufacturers are falling over backwards to come up with new smartphones utilizing the operating system. Unlike the Galaxy and Galaxy Spica, the Samsung I5800 comes with major software personalization, mostly due to TouchWiz 3.0. What we´ve got in our hands is an early prototype, meaning this preview cannot be conclusive and fully indicative of the capabilities of the final, retail product. Still, it allows us to take a sneak peak and find out what we are to expect.

As for the hardware specifications of the new member of team Android, well, they will probably fail to make eager high-tech fans scream with joy, because the device features a 3-inch capacitive screen, 3-megapixel camera, accelerometer, Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, FM radio and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Samsung I5800 Preview (Phone Arena Reviews)

I guess this phone is the main reason behind the unavailability of the i5700 Spica in most places. This is set to replace the i5700. Hope the lag issues faced by the i5700 with Eclairs is resolved in this model. But the screen size have shrunk. Its preview says it has a 3" screen whereas the i5700 has a 3.2" screen. :(

Hopefully it hits the market sooner rather than later.

so same hardware as i5700

i really dont like the design

the only good part is touch sensitive keys.

screen is even smaller.

is this same as i5801 ?

I guess so. IINM most places it mentioned as i5800/i5801. GSMarena doesnt have the specs for the phone.

Android-running Samsung I5801 Galaxy 3 taped on video - GSMArena.com news

Unfortunately, the big question on the I5801 / I5800 screen resolution remains unanswered. However, as the video reveals, it seems lower than the HVGA display resolution of the I5700 Galaxy Spica.

This sucks. Even the phone arena which has a preview doesnt mention the resolution. If its a QVGA then whats the point of this being the latest version. It will be no different from the i5500 Corby smart phone except for slighly better cam and small increase in screen size.

Or will the i5800 sport the weir 240*400 resolution like the monte  if no HVGA apps support will be limited.

i guess it is 240x400 as mentioned on gsmarena...

nonethe less people will prefer this over spica for BlueTooth 3.0, Higher HSDPA Speed..supposedly n wifi and better cam features and TouchWiz.

cant the cam features and TouchWiz be ported to spica if it is only s/w implementation ?

I would take the phonearena spec with pinch of salt. They are knows to make mistakes and typos ( there are some major blunders in this article, they still havent corrected wrong info in Spica coverage which mentions it has AMOLED screen ).

I really doubt it will have resolution less than 320x480 The leak suggested it might be 240x480, but it must have been typo as screen does not look like its anything less than 320x480.

I dont like the design to be honest, IMHO if you are gona have buttons like this, I would prefer the chunky hardware buttons of Spica over these touch sensitive ones. Hope they are not touch sensitive. How can they make call and disconnect buttons touch sensitive???. You can easily make or disconnect calls while taking it out of pocket that way.

this is win some lose some situation now.

i5800 over i5700 :-

Pro:

Bluetooth 3.0

FM Radio

Wifi standard n

TouchWiz

Touch sensitive keys (maybe a pro)

Cons:

Odd design

Smaller Screen

Discussing Pros:

Bluetooth 3.0 - Does it really matter? How many time do you really use BT ?

FM Radio - This is one good feature for some.

Wifi standard n - Do we really even saturate the bandwidth available at b/g ?

TouchWiz - Don't know how much of a difference does this make. Can only try and intepret.

Touch sensitive keys - Good option for those who dont like to press things :P, but again, easy to tap them by mistake in call as mentioned by shripad.

Cons:

Odd Design - Well what can you do, just a matter of taste..so may not be a con for all.

Smaller screen - That's gotta hurt some.

now the major question would be support for later Android updates.

Samsung will leave users with very little choice if it decides to discard i5700 from later updates...hope samsung provides updates.

what is teh I5800 running on..the android 2.2 or touchwiz (isnt this the proprietary software of samsung)?

Looks, so Corby. Who knows, if priced around 7k-8k, Samsung might have a winner here.
this will cost more than spica.

BT 3.0 and wifi b/g/n ..add FM radio to it..wont exactly cost anything below 12k with that feature set.

It's supposed to come with Eclair 2.1

TouchWiz is a user interface by samsung..

from what i understand, things can be dragged and dropped with that..which is what i see on youtube when searched for touchWiz..

if it is the same then there is nothing new.

The screen on the Samsung I5800 Galaxy 3 is a 3.2" TFT touchscreen with WQVGA (240 x 400 pixels) resolution. We believe that resolution is a first for Android. Galaxy 3 has a 3MP autofocus camera on the back and a card slot for microSD cards up to 32GB (a 1GB card comes in the box). With DivX/XviD support and DNSe audio technology, there will be plenty of movies and music to put on the card.

Samsung announces I5800 Galaxy 3, shows off other droids too - GSMArena.com news

Why not the HVGA 3.2" screen . 3.2" screen but still WQVGA :@

Great phone.....

I am surely buying it.

It will come to India in July...

WQVGA is still Ok..

See Preview here on GSMARENA

Really superb in OS..

Build is ok...

why does the d-pad button look triangular in the review link and quadrangular in the new announcement link of gsmarena??

are they talking about the same phone?

EDITeD:

i guess here is the answer

Sorry about the snowy camera samples. It's like we said, we've had an early prototype way back when we weren't allowed to publish anything.

waiting for post release reviews now.
