ok so here is my first day with WAVE...

the phone is gr8 while using... the touch is gr8 the screen, everything rocks while you are going from one menu to another... when i bought it the battery was 50%, the person there told me first to discharge the phone and then charge it full...

i charged the phone for the first time yesterday, it took around 4 hrs to charge it and it gave me a back up of only 18 hrs :( which was less than expected... the use of the phone was as follow...

camera used for 1-2 hrs, around 100 snaps taken yesterday.

music player used for 30 mins

Wifi used for 30 mins

sent 10 msgs

used the phone to explore it for around 1 hr

browse the image galary for 1 hr

used bluetooth to transfer the files for around 1 hr

the rest time the phone was in idle state...

i read somewhere that the battery backup increases after few charge-discharge cycles... is this true guys?

also the phone gets a bit hot when i used it for camera and games purpose continuously for 15+ mins... after reaching a certain heat level it stays there... is this normal too?

waiting for reply other WAVE PHONE....

will post more about my first few days experience with WAVE... :)

GOD BLESS...
The battery life will increase by many folds after a few discharge cycles........ earlier my Wave use to discharge in 1 & 1/2 days with moderate usage..... now it lasts atleast 4 days with same usage.....

There r heating issues but Samsung says its normal & wont affect durability....... mine too gets hot with 15mins of gaming like Shift or RF2010.....

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

Guys dont worry with these heating issues. All these new ultra thin devices with metal battery cover dont had enough ventilation points for the battery and surroundings to cool down effectively. Even upcoming N8 is having some kind of heating problem when used for long hours. That's normal :)

I read somewhere that the gpu inside Wave, powervr sgx 540 is able to handle 1080p encode / decode. But when I tried to play 1080p MP4 video , it says the resolution is not supported. Same is the case with Galaxy S. So I guess either the cortex A8 @1ghz is not able to handle those 1080p videos or its the software limitation.Omap 4 with the same gpu and cortex A9 cpu is gonna support 1080p encode / decode.

But then playing those 1080p videos on these wvga screens does not make sense. Maybe companies will bring this feature with 1280 x 720 screens on the devices :)

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

Well I have not gone through the whole thread but I am awestruck by both Samsung Wave and Galaxy S. I am looking for a device something like iphone (to be used as both PMP and Phone) which is completely out of budget for me. So a friend suggested me Wave which has the sweet Super AMOLED and plays 720p videos. Wave is quite in my budget (~16.5k) but I am a bit reluctant on buying it because of its OS BADA and some facts which I read on Wiki which I am listing below:
  • Bada's application store is closed, and users are prevented from downloading apps from other sources.
  • The external sensor API is not open-ended, preventing new types of sensors or unexpected technology developments from being added in the future.[13]
  • The Bada application cannot access SMS/MMS inbox or receive incoming SMS/MMS notification.
  • Bada application framework only allows one Bada application at a time. Multitasking is possible between the base applications stored in ROM and one Bada application.

Source bada (operating system) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Can anyone help me in deciding to go with Wave or save some more money and get Galaxy S (Android)?

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

^^ The first point from the wiki is total nonsense ..the application store is there,,all the wave users here have downloaded a number of apps from the store ,,ya the paid app store has not come online yet,,,

The third is again stupid,,does it mean that wave cant receive MMS and SMS,,he he LOL

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

thats some seriously wrong info on wiki... new apps added everyday. Im waiting for the paid apps to open up :( tried to buy Dungeon Hunter frm the UK store but got an error that credit card cannot validated :(

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

Thanks sujith and soumalido. What about the Multitasking capability of this phone?

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

Multitasking capabilities of this phone are awesome,,,i ran upto 9 apps simultaneously on the phone without any prob...

Ya but some are facing the problem of low memory problems while multitasking but i hope that the future updates in firmware will surely fix the problm

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

I have a feeling multitasking issue have also to do with the apps in itself, today I had 5 apps running when I launched Shift, and it loaded fine. yesterday even with only 2 apps loading the freekick game gave me memory error. could it be the developers may not have looked at memory allocation so well

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

@yogi7272

i had posted those apps earliar in this forum only but sorry i dont remember the order in which i opened them...

i had opened the following i guess simultaneously...

NFS Shift
Navigation
Gmail
music player
intrenet
Asphalt GT
video player
IM

I just opened 10 apps simulataneously and i will post the screenshots of the 2 pages of the task manager of my wave

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

question with respect to navigation:

How does one initiate the one month free navigation? I managed to get a position lock and assigned a route but when i started navigation, it sort of gave me the two options of entering a voucher code or buying a license. However, I did see the map showing a progressive route as I drove on.

I called samsung svc in the evening and though the guy accepted there was a free month's navigation offer, he did not how to activate it or if there really was a voucher code to use.

So, has it worked for me already as it is expected to, or is there are some more things to activate/enable?

SatNav works for me........ just downloaded India maps and sync'ed licence..... thts it...... it didnt ask me for any code....

But I would like to know how many days of navigation r remaining!!

Also it would be gr888 if Route66 make navigation completely free like Nokia Ovi Maps on 5800XM

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

@panzer: I have synced the license too, and in way navigation worked, but the voice based did not work for sure and the prompt for buying license/entering voucher was certainly strange

Here is what I am looking forward to, and did not happen with my device when I started navigation:

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

my 2nd day with WAVE...

hi frnds... iam going to post about my exp with WAVE on the 2nd day... let's start from battery charging, well this time i.e on the 2nd charge it took just 2.30 hrs to get from 5% to 100% which was acceptable... the backup has also increased from 18hrs on the 1st day to 28hrs, still has 6% left (the main reason might be different usage of the ph, on 1st day it was used for taking around 80+snaps + other tasks, 2nd day it was just used to take 10+ snaps + other tasks)...

apart from battery backup, there was reduction in heating level on my WAVE...

few from things i didn't like in WAVE are...

1.) there is an option in WAVE using which we can set a default number for a contact if we have multiple numbers for the same contact, but when i msg that person it still asks which number to use... if it has to ask this then what's the use of setting any number to default???

2.) we can create groups on this phone, but that too doesn't serve the purpose... i created 3 grps, now if i want to send a specific msg to all the members of the same group, i have to select group then it opens up all the members of that same group asking me to select between them... i can do this from the main contact list too, then what's the point of having the group feature... moreover it doesn't have a SELECT ALL button when iam adding a grp creating a big job for me to manually select all the members of the grp one by one by placing a checkmark next to their name...

that wud be all for now... if any1 has any suggestion about the above said points, pls educate us...

bye and tk cre my fellow members...

GOD BLESS... :)

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

guyz i have a problem...

i tried connecting my freinds wave to internet via my wifi router(zte from bsnl)...it connected properly..but when i tried browsing it gave me the error "DNS Failed"..

plzz help

thanxx

Re: Samsung Wave S8500 India release??

One negative point of the wave:

The vibration during a call is just not enough..i can hardly feel it in my pocket  [ with the cover they have provided] while riding my bike... I guess the low vibration is just to save the battery power. My old SE W810i was better in this department :)
