K....

I feel like a amature asking this...

But what exactly does RMA means....

Also I have bought a 7200.11 April Manufacture....As I was not able to find 1 TB 7200.12....

DOES the problem still persists in the newly manufatured models... Or it has been rectified now........

Like to hear soon from you people..

RMA - Return Material(or Merchandise) Authorization

The chinese Make 7200.11 have major issues. After fighting with accel frontline a few times. They gave me a brand new Malaysian make 7200.11 as a replacement because the other ones died in a very short period. The Malaysian makes don't seem to carry the same issues. However it would be safe to backup all your data elsewhere.

Btw.. Its weird that you didn't find a 7200.12. Cause i remember a friend bought a 1TB sometime in april from Ankit, SP Road.

I have a seagate momentus (external hdd) 120 gb

With WD, one doesn't have to move a muscle for RMA (not even a phone call to the WD call center or the courier company).
Just register for RMA, within two days courier guy comes for pickup.
Within the next week or so you get a drive delivered to your doorstep.
Really amazing service!

And yeah, i got a 750GB for my damaged 500GB & at that time 750GB costed ard 9.5k.

So, WD also rocks!

Okk now i disagree.....

My 500 giga got damaged yesterday...not getting detetcted ..though creayted rma website told u need to call toll free number in order to decide pickup related stuff...so called...for 1-2 hour toll free number was engaged or in middle disconnection...finally got the person who took rma number.....And now he says...i need to pack the stuff with bubble pack or covering etc in envelope or box..in order to avoid external damage.....plus right covering letter with details like all number RMA case id etc etc.....and than forward it to delivery guy......

I m just confused whether is it like selling the stuff to 3rd person or what or i just box pack it with detail latter and forward it to the guy

^Pack it up, no bubble wrap is required. The courier guy will pick it up. I'd sent mine in a garcia's 10" pizza box :ohyeah: (though bikey has reported that garcia's have dropped the quality on their boxes now, thus making them unsuitable for hdd rma purposes :( )

update::Gati guy came to collect hdd.....he refused to take it in hdd box said give me in any box but not like this...in hurry i only got a shoe box also on it hdd was jumping up and down...had no option so forwarded....

Now just keeping my finger cross

Btw...thinking to pick a new one....which model of wd to go with....

i have a 80 GB Seagate HDD . Recently had some bad sectors which somehow deleted partition info of HDD so i lost all Data. now using that same HDD on scanning I do not see any bad sectors. so my question is can I ask for an RMA of my HDD? And Any other formalities regarding RMA checked on Seagate Website i am entitled for warranty. What should i do?

They dont even check the HDD or ask u for a reason while taking the HDD for RMA, even if they do just give it and say it isnt working

I have a portable seagate hdd 120gb (with casing) my sis bought a few years ago.

I recall while checking the warranty a few months back, it said that the warranty was valid till 2011.

But now when i checked, it showed unknown warranty.

I regiestered on the seagate site and mailed them up. THey replied:

"The drive is an OEM drive and is not under warranty through Seagate. Contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer for any warranty information."

This is total crap! how come it showed warranty a few months ago??

i'm planning to give it at the Seagate centre and see what they say..any suggestions?

lucky dude

gave 160gb for replacement last yr and got 320.
then i quickly made my way from the serv.ctr thinking that the guy misplaced someones with mine. :ohyeah:

BUMP! Vince, any updates?

Just a heads-up! I managed to RMA a 2.5" 80GB IDE drive for a friend, which was essentially an OEM drive as it was clearly mentioned on the drive. I was able to cross-check the warranty using the serial/part no. Got a replacement within a week!

Besides, I've RMA'd a friend's 3.5" 160GB SATA II drive which has no errors/defects expecting something better to turn up! :ashamed:

Has anyone attempted this (^) non-sense before?

I'v been having quite some trouble with the Chennai RMA centre..

I RMa'd a 80gig drive that was giving me random reboots and awesome music on transferring files.. after 10 days, I was returned the same drive saying it was repaired...

plugged it in, Bios didn't even detect the drive.. so ran back the same day and gave it back for RMA.. meanwhile loaded ubuntu onto my 120gig data drive..

this too was on it's way out and the stress of the OS running on it made it even louder..

waited for 1 week for my 80 gig replacement, plugged it in, only to find I was given a worse drive than the original one.. :( meanwhile, cleaned up and backed up all the files on the 120giger and gave that for RMA..

picked it up this yday as I have college during the week and they are open only on alternate sats or some nonsense like that...

surprise surprise.. Got a even louder 120Gig drive now.. I ran HDtach on it and I am getting average read speeds of 35mb.. :|

meanwhile I spoke to their customer care who asked me to mail the customercare and that they would give me a reference call ID and that I was to quote that while returning the drive..

The email customer support is really sad.. She checks mail once a day at 10am :| plus, her only reply all along is "Sir we can give you replacement drive and call id only after you have returned the drive"

I have no idea what to do next.. any one with some suggestions?

Is there anyway I can at least get back my old drives? They were so much quieter and didn't crash as often as these replacements..
