No point going for 7850 with a core i3, benches don't show the full picture. Either i3 with 6870 or i5 with 7850

Not as much as nVidia touts, plus it takes a toll on the frame-rates in my view.

Here is a comparison of the GTX 560Ti vis-a-vis AMD HD 7850. The AMD card being a newer generation design decidedly crushes its nVidia competitor in all benchmarks.

The reviews do seem to say so, though I have never experienced any BioSTAR product so it will be a little hard to vouch for them. Plus I have no idea of who does their RMA and after sales?

No definitive answer for availability of their future product lines as flipkart.com introduced them in the mass market [through their online portal]. I have rarely seen BioSTAR motherboards in major metros.

Hope this answers your queries. Cheers!!

final plan -still confused.

i5 2500k at around 1000 cheaper than market price or i3 2100 at market price?

560ti at discounted price with 5yrs warranty or 7850?

so again asking how much % is the performance gain from i3 to i5 and is the double pricing justified.

also how much expensive is 7850 from 560ti?

and to sum my mindset i dont wanna spend almost double just to gain 2-5fps extra over already decent fps(say 50).i am not just performance freak but price to performance matters for me the most.and i already have ps3 3.55 and xbox360 jtagged.but you know gaming is incomplete without pc!!!!

so in the end-SHOULD I REALLY BUY I5 OVER I3???

Okay first off you are not interested in over-clocking, so dump the Core i5 2500k, go for the cheaper Core i5 2400 ~10500/- OR Core i5 2320 ~9500/-, if the budget curtails you.

The advantages of a Core i5 processor over a Core i3 are as follows --
  • True quad-core design vis-a-vis dual-core hyper threaded architecture for the Core i3. In gaming this will not impact now, but ~1 years time you will be able to notice the issues with regular productivity applications.
  • Higher L3 and L2 cache memory, so snappier overall performance.
  • Gaming performance is ambiguous, but if you plan to go multi-player the quad-core option will be a godsend.
  • Future-proofing as you have mentioned for the next ~2 years, till a major console rolls out will be offered only by the quad-core.

In the graphics card department the AMD HD 7850 is a no-brainer it chews the GTX 560Ti and at higher resolutions actually widens the performance chasm between the two offerings. Also please note it runs cooler and draws lesser power than the GTX 560Ti.

For a head-to-head comparison between the two contenders, go here.

The price difference between the two on street is ~2500/- -->3000/-. I think the AMD HD 7850 is worth its price is in gold factoring the improved performance and lowered power draw.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

yeah i know 2500K is mainly for overclocking.but as i am getting it at near the cost of i5 2400(only 500-600 more) and considering i5 2500 is faster than i5 2400 and plus 'k' model will have more resale value down the line.

as for 7850 it is around 5000 more than 560ti and plus 5 yrs warranty on 560ti

so what should be bought now?

Don't think so that argument holds true because the Ivy-Bridge chips are out too, but I leave the final choice to you. Get whichever processor is available to you at a decent price.

Please do not sacrifice on the chipset front, the H67 is a minimum.

No, the GTX 560Ti is priced ~12500/- -->13900/-, but the Sapphire / HIS HD 7870 is available for ~15500/- here.

Only ZOTAC gives you 5 years warranty otherwise other nVidia cards also carry just 3 years warranty. Hope this helps, Cheers!!

#[member='ALPHA17'] - it is 7850 not 7870 .

#[member='dbzgoku'] - i totally agree with alpha17 . dont compromise on mobo . PLus if your budget is tight then still you can get nvidia 560ti over 7850 . In some games like battlefield 3 nvidia 560ti perform better than ati 7850 but as resolution increases 7850 is winner . IT will be more futureproof

I still think you should go for the AMD card over nVidia, what size monitor will you be using with the RIG?

Not much, but these very features will become mainstream, I mean I have a SATA II motherboard and recently bought a hard-drive from the Member's Market and it is a SATA III device. Hence, you see you never know how important these added frills might become.

USB 3.0 is a must these days, faster transfer speeds are a reality on a budget.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

The AMD HD 7850 is definitely a better buy then keeping 1080p visuals in mind OR if you can wait till June-end we might see the GTX 560Ti's successor in the form of the GTX 660Ti and that promises to shake things up quite a bit. Kepler architecture seems to have changes nVidia's form.

Okay go for the H61 chipset, though I find it too basic and seriously I will not couple a Core i5 with it under any circumstances.

So you going with i3 2100 ?

I think thats a good call instead of spending more on getting 2400..2500k the extra money should go into a more powerful GPU and eyes closed you can play stuff for a couple of years.

my thoughts exactly.thats why the question is it really worth it to buy i5 for double price?

if 660ti is gonna be that much so should i be waiting for it or go for 550ti now.i can easily wait for even six months as rite now i have both xbox360 and ps3 and i hardly get any time for gaming on any of them(1 game/month)

so what should be right call?

Best call will be not to invest in a gaming PC at all, go for a --
  • AMD Llano / Trinity setup if you want to use the PC as a HTPC.
  • Intel Core i3 + HD 7750 for a casual gaming setup as well as HTPC.
  • Intel Core i5 + HD 7750 for a casual gaming setup as well as basic workstation RIG keeping the future in mind.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!
