At this point flashing other ROMs wouldn't be a good idea for you. If you have a spare phone, take your data backups and show it to a service centre. You could casually mention that you're a member here and the kinda service you get might affect the decision of potential buyers. They know this is a new and hot item and a bad word about the service could hurt them. One last thing you could try before you go this route is a factory reset.

@ FreeRadical. A quick google only showed me a lot of frustrated android buyers venting their anger at Google. Will let you know if i should come across one. Most of the apps out there record from the speakers it seems. Only a handful of android phones support call recording.

@sajokj Just look for "HDR Camera" in Market. i don't have the apk. There's a free and a paid version as well.

@ Scorpy. I updated to CSL 2.3 last night. Had to flash through SUT. The recovery method only showed me a "PID doesn't match" error. Now i have to root this thing again. I'm still contemplating whether it's worth the trouble since i'm gonna be installing the custom ROM from xda in a few days/weeks anyway. I install everything new each time so it's tedious.

Does the 18 month rule apply to phones already in the market? I kinda got the idea it was only for phones in the making.

@st00pfie I had installed HDR Camera. It looks fine to me. It can just take still photos. No Video. I would like to have one for Video Recording also. I was using LG camera Video recorder, any other good app for HD video recording?

Do you guys think that the display of this phone is decent enough and would survive for 2 years, I am sure will purchase a new phone after 2 years.

I do know this is not a spice mobile but a CSL or Huawai X6 or Foxconn mobile. Would be great if someone who has owned or atleast got a chance to play with both these phones to give a honest feedback.

I have been following this thread and have decided to order this phone from saholic. could any member who has already bought from saholic post their experience regarding the packaging, courier, delivery condition etc. In short, is it reliable to order from saholic?. am quite scared as flipkart recently screwed up one of my orders causing much inconvenience.

Thanks paarkhi for your quick response. Wanted to know if the battery life can be improved if I use below options on Weekdays. (But on weekends I will have all below setting turned on).

- Switch to 2G

- Turn off Push notification for Gmail & Facebook

- Reduce display brightness & no live wall papers

- 15-20 min browsing for news updates & maybe facebook(While on the way to work).

- Crappy background apps turned off

- 30-40 min call per day

- No gaming but slight use of GPS to get directions.



- Have no problems if I have to flash a custom kernel for better battery backup but ofcourse it should be available or CM7 releases it as I can't create one.

Do you think with above settings I will be able to get a decent battery life atleast for 2 days. Only reason why I am inclined towards this phone is the Hardware, you can play games without lag or browse with ease while on the move.
 
^^ what is custom rom...is this the rom spice is gonna give us or another unofficial rom?

i would actually w8 for rom from spice for flashing than doin unofficial flashing myself.

If something goes wrong somebody officially has to be blamed......;-)

even though if you shift on 2G and all the battery conserving methods (it will give you 2 days very difficultly) and there are no custom ROMs at present for this device (Villian ROM is in progress). Device is above par for this money, and optimus cannot stand anywhere near to this in hardware but don't expect too much from the battery. Optimus has moderate Dev Support on XDA... Rest remains on you, but if I'd be you then I'll surely go with this, after all you must be having a backup 2nd phone carried with you.

Kernel source code is not yet public so no custom kernel as of now

N.B. Most of the big screen Androids has to be charged daily :(

Saholic is pretty reliable and they pack weather proof packing, I ordered through Saholic and service is excellent, sent through Bluedart. Over all Very good experience

I think I got your point, except battery you do not seem to have any serious complaints. Lack of Developer support relative to LG Optimus one might also be a small concern as spice is planning to come up with 2.3.4 update soon. I assume the screen readiblity is manageble although it cannot be compared to SAmoled or SLcd.

good experience .. ordered wednesday night got the phone friday morning .. thru bluedart :D !!! very nice packaging ... i hope ur experience is same

I Would Say Just RUN To Your Nearest Service Center, But Not Before Flashing CSL 2.2 Backup, Go There Make An Innocent Face :)

And Say "Kya Yaar 1 Month Mien Camera Bandh Ho Gaya, Doosre Month Mien Phone Bandh Ho Jaaye Ga, Plz Give Me An New Replacement"
 
This Goes like this...I had my Spice mi 410 For sale thread in the market...the phone was sold to Deathbearer..I was on Cherry 2.3.4...before handing the phone to deathbearer i flashed CSL 2.2.2..

Next day he told me that Phone is getting weird camera problem...when launching the camera app the camera screen goes black..even after rebooting the phone the problem persists.The problem goes for a while when the phone is done a factory reset

So next day I refunded the money back to Deathbearer..

Took the phone straight to service center..told the problem..no question asked...they gave me DOA certificate in 2hrs.. Took the DOA went back to the hotspot..as no stock was available hotspot told that they will call me back after 2 to 3 days.Went there on 11th night..They gave me a brand new phone..wats interesting they gave me new bill for that dated 11/07/2011...My old phone's purchase date was 23/06/2011..now dats great..17days extended warranty..

Flashed the phone with CSL's 2.3.4..rooted the phone...Now everything is fine..

and one more thing i sincerely apologize to deathbearer for all the trouble..

You are lucky that you got the new phone, here in my city there is no service center and no hotspot (I ordered through Saholic), I cross my fingers but if something happens to my device then I need to run to the nearest city which has the service center which is 50 KMS away...

I would have liked to take it to the service center but since yesterday am not seeing the problem at all. And i did not do anything to fix it. No matter what I do I cannot get that problem to come back. So I cannot show to the service center guy that I am having a problem. Not sure If I should be happy or sad :huh:

If ROM comes from Spice you don't need to flash your device, just need to update it and by the way ROM is Software part which will not affect you hardware until you play with Hardware. So don't worry about warranty and other thing. If you take back up and then Flash your device, and again use your back up then no one can find out that you have flashed device......:clap:

Experience with Saholic was very good. Packing was nice, updates are very clear and couriered with Blue Dart. I put the order on Thursday Afternoon and got it on Friday Morning within 24 Hr.

Can someone please comment on this aspect. I tried the device at two different shops and I myself felt that sensitivity was sub par and often you've to press / touch again n again before the input is registered.

1. Is their a way to overcome this with the help of a tweaking tool?

2. Does the Cherry Magnum or Spice CSL 2.3.4 fimware's make the situation any better or worse?

it is glitchy in Froyo 2.2.2 but when you update to 2.3.4 the touch sensitivity is better

Ohhhhh is it so???? :huh: till date I have not faced any problem related to touch.... atleast not like what you have explained like touch and press :eek:hyeah: ..... never.... may be because of Gingerbread as mention by Paarakhi :cool2: .....
 
finally its time for me to join in this elite group, i got mine today..:cool2:
i ordered it on monday from Saholic, they couriered through bluedart.. communication, service, packing everything was really nice and smooth.. what i really liked about them was their "tracking" of the shipment on their site.:eek:hyeah:

First impression: oh boy i really fell in love with it at first look..:D it is solid and looks very much like a high-end(>20k) phones out there in market.. I didn't find any lag or touch issues till now.. It took less than 20sec for GPS lock(without AGPS, i didnt put my sim), my dad's wave 2 took almost 20mins at first at the same location..:clap:
