Star world premiere hd on TataSky

There are 2 ways to look at this.
1. Charging more from customers who already pay a lot for HD channels & mega pack etc.
2. Its just 2 Rs a day for 3 to 6 new shows everyday.

For people like me, I seem VFM for everything. In this case, the 2nd option seems better than 1st. I save so much bandwidth so people on FUP, 60 Rs is not a bad deal for the 20+ shows. Plus the shows on the new channel are broadcasted same week as US and the shows are very good.

If you can subscribe to Tata Sky Mega pack or HD pack, you can surely pay Rs 60. I am not aware if its the channel which is commanding the price or the service provider. It will be interesting to know this fact. The fact it was announced free on Videocon and then 60 Rs was demanded seems that the channel has some say in pricing strategy.
 
Zee TV is HD - somebody mentioned it's not?

Tata Sky dropped hints of Ten HD today on twitter. Probably means another hike in HD pack rent.

As far as News channels are concerned each news channel is biased towards one point of view, be it BBC, CNN, AL JAZEERA or NDTV, CNN-IBN etc. BTW Rajdeep Sardesai is a Congress pimp not Pronoy Roy. Out of all the Indian news channels I'd like to see NDTV rather than the other ones which are really in bad taste.

out of all shows only 3 or 4 which were already running are worth . of all new shows , i did not find any of them "must watch"
 
From the channels point of view this is the max they could offer I think. It's definitely not cheap getting these shows as early as they are trying to, coupled with torrents their viewership is at is low. At least it's a commendable effort from Star to get some viewers back, though by pricing it the way they have none of the downloaders will switch.

@puns The Mega pack already costs a whopping 5400+ a year. Add to that another 720 bucks for a few shows. (I doubt anyone will watch all 20+ shows which are advertised.) And we are already talking over 500 a month for single tv.

Also, why are we talking about News channels on this thread?
 
If these companies had the option of hand-picking channels, I would have just selected the sports channels and for everything else I would just get them from *ahem* sources like I have been doing till now. Even my parents prefer watching English TV series since they got hooked to Star World and watching a downloaded show provides them with the freedom to watch what they want when they want. Unfortunately I always go overboard and I selected the Mega pack on Airtel DTH just because it provided the largest no of HD channels.
 
I think news channels topic came into this thread because of the amount of ads they put. I wanted to compare amount of ads in premium channel vs non premium.

TataSky actually has option of handpicking channels, bit with a minimum 150 or 200 rupees minimum. In that they have bloated the price of every channel and you can't make channels of la carte packs. Example: English movies la carte pack of 8 channels is 60pm. But if you go only for star movies or pix, you need to pay 20 per channel. They have put similar pricing for other channels in all other genres. Worst is you cannot subscriber to la carte packs.

So if you go to handpick just few choice channels, then at most you will get around a dozen channels in 300 rupees compared to 200 or so if you took their package.
 
When star world premier HD was aired it was free for about a week and now they are charging 60rs/month on videocon d2h.
Already paying 480 rs for platinum hd pack and paying 60rs premium just for one channel is totally baseless.
 
Guys just vote with your wallet, do not subscribe if you feel it is not worth. We all have decent internet connection so it does not really make sense and also censoring part is there which mars the experience.

it is probably the Star network wanting more money for the channel.
i so wish getting a dreambox STB to get all HD channels

Folks paying HD access fee but subscribed to Ten Sports, Ten Action and Ten cricket on an a la carte basis may not be able to view Ten HD. Change a la carte Ten Channels to Ten Sports pack (same amount same 3 channels) and get Ten HD free.

60/- subscription for the rest.

Neo Sports & Neo Cricket both have been dropped from TataSky. Both were coming till yesterday. Seems TataSky is reserving bandwidth.

Makes sense now that Cricket in India rights have gone to Star Cricket.

Wonder what they'll replace it with, any news?

@puns, how can someone sue TataSky for not giving a premiere channel free?
Its upto the service provider to give or not give channels according to demand. In their terms and conditions its mentioned clearly that even if people pay for the full year, changes to no of channels will be at discretion of TataSky.
I think that ngo adhikar is at a disadvantage for not reading the terms carefully.
