you really dont need vista either. get xp home, and a tuner card with a media center app ( i have a pinnacle pctv 110i which has a remote and a media center ish app )

2. RAM; 2GBX2 Kingston DDR2 RAM.-------------Rs. 4,500/- So 2GB would be around Rs. 2,000/-
3. OS: Windows Vista Home Premium----------------Rs. 4,850/-
4. CPU: AMD Athlon X2 5600-----------------------Rs. 11,800/-
5. Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H-----(Price included in CPU).
6. Internal Hard Drive: 750 GB WD-------------------Rs. 7,500/-
7. Wireless Mouse/Keyboard Combo: Logitech-------Rs 1,600/-
8. Remote; Logitech Harmony-------------------------Rs. 6,800/-
9. Case; Colloer Master with 390Watt SMPS---------Rs. 8,000/-
10 Graphics Card; Sapphire - HD3870 X2------------Rs. 15,900/-
11. Asus EN8800GT----------------------------------Rs. 18,000/-

These are the prices that I got... Are they any good? Or are they cheaper in Nehru Place?

ur graphics card prices are thru the roof :P

look in the dealer section for 8800GT prices. 11-14k maxxxxx

same with ur case +smps

EDIT: damn, i forgot i promised to keep out of this "HTPC"

So all prices are fine except for the case... 8800GT and SMPS?
So is the case and smps available for cheaper prices at Nehru Place?

Are you sure it is the HD3870x2 quoted @ Rs 15900? It looks like the overbloated pricing of HD3870 to me. The ASUS cards are generally more expensive. Also with the 8800gt or 3870x2 would a 390 watt smps be enough?

I suspect you are trying to put in a htpc which can provide a killer gaming performance as well.

hey firstly why the hell do you want to call a high end computer a HTPC:no: ...when all i see in your config is a high end gaming rig....thts all...

the thread title should be changed to

'High end gaming rig ....which can play HD content too'

octave, In case you didnt read the previous posts, the OP hasn't a clue what an HTPC is :P

I got to agree with that. If the OP needed a gaming machine then he should get a machine like the 'Boo's spider rig'.

I do not know if nvidia is really going to release a $45 platform with via for bluray/htpc. If thats the case it would be the ideal combination for a htpc.

All the prices are not for the HTPC. I am not putting the graphics card in the HTPC and I am only putting 2GB into the HTPC. Also... I am going to be buying a AMD Athlon 5000+ and not 5600

So my computer is not a killer gaming rig... it is an HTPC.

I am just asking if the prices are good or not?

If you read the posts above the members have mentioned that the asus8800 gt is atleast Rs5000 higher than other manufacturers. The HD3870x2 is actually a steal deal if its being sold @ 16k. If buying the amd hd3870x2 look at this site
Power Supplies Certified for Single Card Operation for recommended power supplies.

Will the HD3870 X2 give me better video output or will it help in my HTPC? Or will the Gigabyte GA be enough?

Also... are all the other prices fine?

the gigabyte will be quite adequate. in fact , adding a gpu increases cpu usage when playing back hd rips

So you mean the Gigabyte Motherboard will play full hd rips at highest quality fine?
So I don't need to get the Sapphire - HD3870 X2?
