^I am into two-handed weapons unfortunately. :( And the skill has greatly improved this far - at level 78 now. I do not want to switch to the single-handed weaponry now. I also happened to use the staff that Master Necromancer (in my previous post!) had used against me - it was way too good. Skeletons and other lesser minions broke into pieces from a single strike!

The heavy armor has reached 65+ IIRC. The best part is there is this skill upgrade for heavy armor wherein no weight will be added for any heavy armor worn - requires level 70 for heavy armor to unlock that skill though. I am just waiting for that one so I could carry a whole lot of load and can run faster when not carrying much.

i do that wid my arrow.. bwahahaha :P

Guys, quick question. I've put 30-40 hours into this and now my Legit copy is here. Anyways to transfer progress ? I've explored a lot (for the no. of hours played).

Just install the legit Skyrim and start playing, it will autodetect your saves, since they are in My Documents/My Games . I switched to legit copy after level 31, no hassles.

Why are you guys switching anyways? :S Does the legit version provide anything over the ahem version? I mean there is no multiplayer, so you might as well continue with the ahem version. I am not saying, do not but legit copies, I am just saying there is no point in switching to it in the middle of a game.

I play with mouse+keyboard, and I needed to patch the game to improve the controls. Besides, I bought the game, might as well use it :D As to why I bought it, lets say I invested a small amount for Elders Scrolls VI :D

Isn't there some kind of auto-aim with the Xbox 360 controller? I find it really hard to aim and am sometimes forced to switch to mouse+KB in between in challenging battles.

The patches are available for the ahem version too. Again, I am not promoting the ahem version but switching to the legit version inbetween your progress just doesn't make any sense.

Completed several quests yesterday. Joined Stormcloaks Rebellion and lost the quest for joining the Imperial Legion. The quest for joining Stormcloaks was utter USELESS - killing the Ice Wraith! WTF? I thought it must have been some frost giant or something. :| Walked into one of the Dwarven Ruins to collect some artifact and it was frikking HUGE! Had to face a Dwarven Centurion inside. 30+ hours, leveled upto 25+, Heavy Armor at 70+ and Two-Handed skill at 84+. I can see where this is headed to! :P

Don't seem like there is an option. This is precisely the reason I barely use the staff and arrow. Arrows need an even precise aim and shot. Pretty hard using the X360 controller when the target keeps moving around.

At that moment I was totally like "I am Dovahkiin! I've killed a couple of badass dragons! Ain't that enough for you, you %&$@?" :P

Yup worked w/o any problems.

Why are you guys switching anyways

Looks good with the rest of my collection. :)

Had to come to work yesterday and lost almost the entire day until evening. :( Nonetheless, I was free from the second-half of Saturday and was able to apply some of the popular mods from Skyrim Nexus and worked well OOTB. All that was required was to copy and paste the folder/files in the data folder. Pretty simple and did not run into any hiccups. However, it is advisable to keep a copy of the save files should something go wrong later. These were the mods applied:

1. Enhanced Night Skyrim - Enhanced Night Skyrim at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
2. Enhanced Blood Textures - Enhanced Blood Textures at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
3. Skyrim HD Textures - Skyrim HD - 2K Textures at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
4. Detailed Faces - Detailed Faces v2 at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
5. Realistic Water Textures - RWT Realistic Water Textures at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
6. FXAA Post Process Injector - FXAA Post Process Injector at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
7. 4 GB Skyrim Mod v1.5 - 4GB Skyrim at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community
8. Time on Loading Screen - KenMOD - Time on loading screen at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community

There are several other mods as well but these certainly add a lot more value to the game. The best of all the above mods were the HD Textures and FXAA Post Process Injector. During several occasions, I found myself keeping my character idle and staring at the display. Do it a bit longer and the display begins to revolve around the character in circles.

As far as the playthrough goes, I completed some side quests and a couple of main quests. Unlocked 14 shouts (and the respective sub-shouts) by far and have slayed close to 18 dragons. The side quest Blood on the Ice was very good with our hero playing the role of a detective.

If you want to level up the Block skill quickly without paying for it or for the 5 nos. the level based restriction, here's a neat trick (no kidding!):
Stock on a dozen healing potions (plentiful/minor/whatever). Find yourself a cave bear or a snow bear somewhere. There are plenty of those in Skyrim so missing one is pretty hard. Keep wandering around Windhelm/Winterhold. Approach it and block using the heavy weapon. It will take a small hit on the health but at the same time gives a 20% bonus for Blocking skill each time the character blocks the bear's standing attack. Repeat doing this while keeping a watch on the health bar. If it falls low, consume a health potion. The bear also takes a small hit each time, the heavy weapon bash is done so this way in approx. < 10 mins, the character would have leveled up >6-7 times before taking the bear down.
I was tasked by a companion to take down a bear which occupied some residence near a mining camp. And greatly improved my character's Block skill this way from 34 to 40! :D And as a bonus, the folks there wanted me to clear a mine infested with red spiders. Turns out the mine had Ebony! Mined my way to glory and stocked up on some Ebony ore. Now to improve the Smithing skills today with some cheap iron daggers. Happened to notice that iron daggers are the easiest and takes the least number of iron ingots and helps in leveling up the Smithing skills easily.

^Read this guide to take advantage of loopholes to level any skill in the game.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Fast Leveling Guide|

I leveled up my Speech and smithing to 100 using the method in the guide. Also leveled up block but it was very time consuming so leveled it only to around 65. The rest of the methods also work but all are very time consuming.

I installed yesterday. It seems On screen key is not working. In the first task while trying to get the sword... once i open the box i get two keys 'E' Take and 'R' Take all.both of them not working and i am stuck in the menu.

The Collectors edition comes with a "Cloth Map", an awesome looking dragon statue and an artbook. I would have bought and framed the map it if it was available in India and I had the moolah. :P

That cloth map's a myth actually.
My pre order copy was also supposed to include one but it turned out to be a paper map which feels like burlap (its like burlap canvas paper).
Bethesda also denied having said that there ever was going to be a cloth map.

Just after announcing that the long awaited Skyrim Creation Kit, the tools that allow in depth modding for the Elder Scroll’s newest title, will soon be upon us in January, Steam has announced that Skyrim will be using the already popular Steam Workshop. What does this mean? It means getting Skyrim Mods to and from your game will be as easy as browsing the workshop, and clicking download. Here’s what Steam had to say.

Bethesda Game Studios announced today that the PC version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be using the Steam Workshop, making it possible for users to submit, browse, rate, and download mods for Skyrim through Steam. Bethesda’s thriving modding community has been creating some of the most inventive, unique, and compelling user created content around. We’re excited to be providing the framework to make distribution and consumption of this great content easier than ever.

The feature also allows users to comment on, rate, and browse through different categories of mods all from within Steam. When this feature will be released wholesale is uncertain, but one can only hope it will be soon after the modding tools get released sometime in January. For more information about these two announcements, check out Bethesda’s Blog, and Steam’s News page.

How to Use the Skyrim Console to Get Past Broken Quests on the PC

Softpedia said:
1. First up, in the game, you need to hit the ` key to bring up the console, or the specific key that you assigned this action to.

2. Then you need to find out what quests you have active, which can easily be done by typing ‘ShowQuestTargets’ and hitting Enter. In case you have many active quests, however, it won’t really be much help, as there are only so many lines the console can show and you can’t scroll its contents. If you know the name of the quest, you can easily look it up on The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages Wiki, which has a full list of the quests in the game, complete with their ID.

3. After finding out what quest you want to progress, you need to enter the ‘Player.sqs’ command, followed by a space and the quest id (final command should look like Player.sqs <quest id>). This shows all the stages that are part of this quest, followed by a 1, if you already did it, or a 0, if you didn’t reach it. Bear in mind, however, that there are blank stages, so you might once again want to check out the UESP Wiki to see the actual stages and what they mean.

4. Last but not least, you need to introduce the ‘SetStage’ command, followed by the quest id and the stage number (it should look like SetStage <quest id> <stage number>). This will automatically progress through the quest to that intended stage, giving you new objectives and, hopefully, fixing the quest.

As a concrete example, say you're stuck on the Dragon Rising quest at the beginning of the game, when the Jarl of Whiterun tells you to investigate a dragon sighting. You need to meet up with Irileth and her guards outside of the town and check out the report.

In case she doesn't spawn at that location and you know that the quest id is MQ104, and that the stage in which Irileth should appear is 15, you just need to enter SetStage MQ104 15. This will automatically get you to the next stage, in which you need to kill the dragon.

Bear in mind that, while this guide may work without a problem, you should always be cautious and do a hard save before attempting to use the Skyrim console.

Spent the weekend playing this and yea, I'm already addicted. Killed my first Dragon, cleared three dungeons, joined the Companions and the Jarl even made me a Thane! Have my own merc now. I'm collecting money to buy a house now. Need to buy a horse after this. Already made almost 4K. Making money seems quite easy in this. I'm stealing every coin I lay my eyes on if I'm sure I wont get caught. hehe.

But, I feel Alchemy is too damn tuff. I have no idea what each ingredient does and most of the time the potion creation fails. Inventory is also a huge problem. I'm always running out of inventory space. IS it possible to increase inventory size any way?

I could never get into Oblivion. I actually tried twice and gave after a couple of hours of play. But, I was absolutely addicted to Fallout 3. I used to think about it even when I was in office, lol! Now, Skyrim is giving me a similar feeling. Once I get a horse, I want go further out of the town just roaming on my own. BTW, anyone know what happens to the Merc when you mount up on a horse? Do you have to buy a horse for him/her too?

Anyway, cant wait to get back home and get lost in Skyrim. :)

Usually I think the merc stops following and then suddenly reappears whenever you get off or enter a new area.
