The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - Discussion Thread

Re: Chronicles of Riddick : Assault on Dark Athena

Yep, pretty much. Initially, it was touted as a "remake" of the original Butcher's Bay. That's when they had publishers, Sierra/Activision. Activision merged later on with Vivendi games. They dropped out from publishing this title & Sierra pretty much left them high & dry as well. Starbreeze still continued their work on it. So at the beginning, it was intended to be a small mini-campaign based game to complement Butcher's Bay in high definition. Then ATARI stepped in to publish their game. By then Starbreeze had developed it into a full blown sequel to Butcher's Bay. Hence they decided to pump up the original Butcher's Bay & include it as an add-on in this copy.

Now you have two separate games with two separate storylines. Dark Athena pretty much picks off from where Butcher's Bay left off. I just played the brief moments of Dark Athena & yes it still has Riddick & Johns, who were the only 2 people to escape from the Butcher Bay prison. So far it seems pretty different from the earlier storyline.

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is the follow up to Starbreeze's critically acclaimed, and well loved title Escape From Butcher Bay on the original Xbox. This game also includes a remake of EFBB, updating the look of the game for current gen systems, and finally letting 360 users give the game a go, since there's a lack of backwards compatibility support for the first title on the system.

Re: Chronicles of Riddick : Assault on Dark Athena

Quick question! Is the 'Assault on Dark Athena' campaign as lengthy as the previous one? Butcher Bay spanned roughly 10 hours IIRC.

I happened to watch Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick few days ago and had completely lost touch of the first game! Read up a bit and decided to play the sequel. :p

Thanks folks! Will attempt this probably after completing Witcher 2.

The AI in the first game was a bit stupid and Riddick would get detected too easily despite all the stealth measures. :( I hope that isn't the case with this one else I may have to go the Full Metal Jacket way just as Jojo did it.

Meh! I didn't have any issues with stealth in Butcher Bay. Maybe you're blind or slightly off color like Riddick is :bleh:

Bah! :p

Stealth should be as it was implemented in let's say the Thief/Hitman/Splinter Cell/IGI titles. Stay in the dark/cover so the enemy AI can't spot you, take them out silently, complete the objectives and leave the area unspotted. In EFBB, I used to get detected more often despite all these measures. :(
