Uses

1. Music. Music qlty has to be good.

2. Battery life, atleast acceptable ones

3. Few browsing, texting here and there.

4. love to play few games sometimes.

5. Phone reception/qlty has to be brilliant.

6. Big screen

7. fast, accurate GPS/Compass/Maps/Navigation

8. secondary video cam is good addon

9. Wifi access point to share internet is a plus. so that i can use my tablet in tether mode. :D

Questions:-

1. Q: Budget?

A: ~15k preferred. But no issues in spending upto 25k. but really really dont want to.

2. Q: Preferred Form Factor(flip, bar,slider)?

A: Any

3. Q: Preferred display type?

A: Great, Big display. would love a big screen

4. Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them.

A: Love qwerty... but still open to all

6. Q: Camera required or not? If required, please specify type like front camera/flash/etc.

A: A sufficient one is good

Any advice?

^^

Thanks..

But for the following its not good

6. Big screen -- My n97mini is already 3.2 inch.. :S

7. fast, accurate GPS/Compass/Maps/Navigation - ???

9. Wifi access point to share internet is a plus. so that i can use my tablet in tether mode. -- not there..

Also spending 19k on nokia+symbian combo??? I dont feel that road is going to be good...

^What are your needs? The Micromax will be better for browsing and few games due to the larger, higher resolution screen and also it has a better camera.

The Samsung has a ARMv6 832MHz processor but not sure what GPU it has! Not sure what SOC is being used in this phone. The Micromax has a MSM7227 600MHz and Adreno 200 GPU.

The samsung has a better brand value, service network and also runs the latest version of android OS ie., GB.

You can wait for a while before getting the Y if you are not in a hurry to check the user opinions and reviews.

^Nope. The SOC is different. The S has a superior PowerVR SGX540 GPU whereas the SL has a inferior SGX530(Same as defy. Even the iPhone 3GS has a better SGX535 GPU!)

Also the SL version doesnt have a Wolfsan DAC IINM and it has lesser internal memory compared to Galaxy S i9000 huge 16GB storage.

Budget: 6-7k MAX Preferably around 6k mark

Requirement: Smartphone, either QWERTY or touch. Wifi and GPS is a must.

I need a smartphone for around 6k. I am open to arrange one from the US. I'm not concerned about anything else, don't care about the camera or music or anything else. I'm fine with any OS too, just that it needs to be a decent capable smartphone.

Currently I'm strongly eying the HP Veer or Pixi Plus.

Another good option is the Samsung Galaxy Y. Comes to about 6.4k after using coupon on Letsbuy. Although it looks like a very nice package, I'm a bit skeptical about using a low end Android with 256mb ram.

Nokia C5 - Good phone but no QWERTY or touch. :(

No 5233/5235 please, had one earlier, don't wanna go back to that. :P

Any other options?

Need suggestion for a basic phone for my mom. Her preferences:

Should have a good screen, battery & keypad
Doesn't need any fulgy looking phone or big keypad phone
Doesn't require 3g, wifi etc
Music/camera/radio/touch/qwerty/memory are all optional
Budget (+-) 3k

I looked over and found two decent phones from Samsung,
Samsung Metro S3310 - my sister is using this & I can say it's a damn good phone.
Samsung Metro Duos C3322

Any other options, I should be looking at...
