News The (probable) Death of FiveM and possible ROME and UGC push in GTA VI

Seems like many problems have been going on behind the scenes at FiveM since the acquisition of Cfx.re (the ones behind FiveM) by Rockstar back in August 2023. Late on Monday, a website called fivem.team was revealed and houses an very, very long timeline and list of huge issues taking place within FiveM. This document alleges many problems taking place at FiveM and Rockstar Games. In this unprecedented report, many pieces of evidence are shared in the form of chat logs. Furthermore, many other well-known community members such have backed up these claims.

Behind the friendly, smiling, snail mascot of FiveM – you’ll find many dark secrets.
Embezzlement. Fraud. Corporate Espionage. Leaks. Favoritism. Corruption. Blackmail. Harassment. Conflicts of Interest. Lies. Stolen Valor. Bribes. Slander. Manipulation. Sabotage. Laziness. Greed. Envy. Wrath. Pride.
This is the story of FiveM. From its humble origins as a solo-developed modding project, to its rise as one of the most successful multiplayer games today.

Now there are also rumours that Rockstar actually acquired FiveM due to it's plan to push for Roblox and Fortnite like UGC (user generated content) and it is also being reported that Rockstar is meeting with Fortnite and Roblox creators, in addition to existing GTA content creators, about GTA VI and its purported push into user-generated content. Some of the GTA content creators have also come forward and put forth that this is most probably going to be the path forward for GTA Online.

Pete Basgen, global gaming and esports lead for WPP agency Wavemaker, told DigiDay:
It is my firm belief that the reason that they purchased FiveM is exactly that — to spin up a metaversal universe of custom-built experiences, and potentially UGC items, with an attached UGC creator economy. It will essentially occupy that adult-enumerated space at the top of the ecosystem; there’s a very natural place there for people that graduate from Roblox and Minecraft.
Chad Mustard, COO of UGC gaming studio JOGO, added:
If Rockstar embraces UGC, it’s a game-changer, plain and simple. The demand for creator-driven experiences is already massive, and this could unlock unprecedented opportunities for studios like ours. The economics are proven, the audience is there, and we’re ready to build. This is the moment GTA creators have been waiting for.

Perhaps this could explain why, according to the Corsair Gaming CEO at least, GTA VI might be launching sooner than we thought on PC. If Rockstar really intends to push on the metaverse side of the game, it would be better to do it with as wide an audience as possible, especially since UGC and PC are practically synonymous.

That is exactly what Rockstar is trying to pull of here with GTA VI
GTA VI can't pull that off. Of course the Online part of GTA VI is gonna be 10x better than current GTA Online but it would more be like a alpha where you can make other game modes like fortnite maps.
1st an average system won't be able to handle a smooth experience of something that big.
2nd They will resort to VR Headset with game streaming, where all the hard work is done on the game servers. ( need really low ping for that one)
3rd Whichever company makes that one game, will obviously be the only one selling those VRs.

and the sad part it's gonna take time. and I would absolutely hate to lose everything in a game like that coz of bad internet.

they don't really care about that plus I think that they might even consider allowing for much lower end hardware than expected to be able to run GTA VI, not as low as GTA V but most probably anything above maybe a 1660s at extremely low settings and allowing themselves to maximize their profits by appealing a larger user base like Roblox.

Sure VR will be a part of it but I think that is going to be pretty separated as a niche.
it's gonna take time
yeah that is a big part, BUT it is going to be much less than GTA online and it is going to have a heck of a lot more content on launch than GTA online did for sure.

that is still to be seen and servers on GTA are not as bad even right now as some other games but they could improve greatly since how important it is for Rockstar that people buy and play GTA online, it is literally their cash cow.

Not gonna be immersive enough without VR, Even in the VR the graphics needs to look at least like cyberpunk 2077 level.
And the control mechanics for VR is not good enough. I read somewhere a company is working on full body sensation suits for VR. Which will be the best possible solution if we can't a mind brainwave controller.

BUT it is going to be much less than GTA online and it is going to have a heck of a lot more content on launch than GTA online did for sure.
I hope so, But online is also gonna take at least a year after GTA VI release.

Still Rockstar have not fixed the ping issue in GTA Online . The connection is P2P and that throws players into a new session. Can't tell how many times I have failed heists when the game suddenly decides that one of the teammates has quit.
Sounds more like monopoly by 1 company to me. No thanks.
If they introduce currency redeem system like Ready Player One. I'm sure gonna have some a lot more than I have now. There won't be a single achievement or reward that I would not claim.

You know that VR is still considered a niche right? Most of the gamers don't really care about it that much and many can't even enjoy it as it often leads to headaches and dizziness and add that to the high cost of initial entry, it probably won't be a deal breaker for most.

Yeah that has happened to me too but they probably will improve it for their own sake at least or maybe we can even see more private servers for UGC.

I know, Considering it's Kind of expensive I don't own one. But only VR makes sense for a game where you can do anything you want. Hopefully when some company launces their game VR headsets it's prices cheap so the more people buy it and then they can recover losses with micro transactions.

god no, your ideas all seem horrible, *to me*.
No corruption of gaming with this crypto nonsense for me. Instead of slaving to make tiny money, better to focus on career and savings.

Fk blockchain and the large amount of scams its generating. Maybe in future something actually useful might come one day.
crypto/web3/nft is full of scams due to lack of regulation.

I just want to play to play. Like watching movies or reading a book. Nothing more.

VR sounds nice but i am hoping we will get oled/miniled there with good HDR before i buy one (at some reasonable price).
It needs some kind of clear use case to be worthwhile else it will just stay on side most of the time and might be better to experience it in some store.
One game i do want to play is Half life alyx.

I grew up watching Johhny quest and Matrix, so VR is perfect for me in that sense but somehow not yet ready to go for it yet.

I actually meant the skins and other stuff they sell in the game.
I never bought the COD MW2 always used the free version where I could play plunder and DMZ. But I still ended up paying 800rs for a player skin I liked. So even as a free user they got money from me.

I thought you meant crypto stuff, something that someone like peter molyneux might be peddling these days.

Anyway, my point was that all of this is tiny stuff in terms of money. ie playing games to recover money makes little sense. Better to work on career/savings - atleast for most people.
If its a free byproduct then fine, but how long will it take before it starts becoming an incentive on its own for some people because they are addicted.

Couple of thousands and lakhs is a tiny amount vs what we can make from a career.

Similarly 'Achievements' and 100% completion for example never made sense to me wrt games, its like triggering ocd of some people and they have to finish everything even if its tedious.
Some games like FTL do that very well and completion makes sense and is fun, but majority seem unnecessary and tedious and very pointless -- to me.

Anyway, different things for diff people.

Even i don't want crypto in game. I tried a battle royale game that offered crypto and man the game was unplayable, I had 3080 and still the frame rate was dipping below 20.

Some games should only exist to be played offline where you just spend some me time. And playing game to recover money is not smart. I only meant a whole economic system in the game where even player can make custom clothes and skins and sell to other player who can't spend that much time learning those mechanics.
Basically another life in the game , but this time you don't have to do an office job.
