The Witcher 3 - Discussion Thread

Does anyone know if this game can be activated on steam even if its purchased on disc locally? I would like it in my steam library, but the disc version for India cost considerably cheaper than the steam version

I think disc version only comes with the GOG key. You can take your Witcher 1 and 2 codes from steam and register them on GOG. That way, you will have all three on GOG.

Yep, I got the same confirmed from CD PROJEKT support as well

Each retail PC copy of Wild Hunt will contain an additional GOG.com game code for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game code grants you access to a digital backup copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on GOG.com. You will also receive full software support, i.e. future updates, as well as all the additional content like the 16 Free DLCs, the FLAC & MP3 soundtrack, comics, wallpapers, art book, all voice over packs and more.

This code cannot be used on Steam.

Good lord, this is gorgeous. The first two side missions itself are better than any side mission from the first half of DA:I (I ditched that game at that point).

Figured out the settings I will continue to play at . 3840x2160 - Ultra settings, except for Foliage Distance and Shadows, which I have set to High. HBAO+ on. Hairworks off. Light Shafts on. Fixed 30fps.

Loving how all the side quests are connected. You get a back story for the monster quest, which is connected to the other Griffin hunt.

Can't wait to get my copy from GTS. Damn thing is still in Mumbai according to BlueDart. Hope I get it by tomorrow.

Really worried if my 4GB ram will let me play. :(

How do you import your Witcher 2 save?

I copied my final Witcher 2 save to "\Documents\Witcher 2\gamesaves\". When I started a new Witcher 3 game, it gave me an option to start a new game or start from a Witcher 2 save. When you select the second option, it looks in that folder and lists all the valid saves it finds.

Gah and I am stuck out of town till 28th. Maybe I can pickup my copy from retail. Anyone with a 7 series Nvidia GPU please post performance results.

I am gonna play it on my 660Ti. Have 8GB RAM in my system though. Still not sure if I should get the PS4 version or just get the PC version. For me I guess the quality will be pretty much same on my PC and PS4.

Oh righto! Do you mean Witcher 3's save directory? or does it need to have the older Witcher's save directory intact?

No, it is Witcher 2's save directory. Witcher 3 looks in the folder where Witcher 2 would have saved the files.

If you have used Steam cloud saves for Witcher 2, you will have to find those manually and create a "\Witcher 2\gamesaves\" path in your Documents folder and copy your file there.

Steam cloud saves for Witcher 2 can be found at "<steam install directory>\userdata\<steam_userid>\20920\remote\".

Just did that and I didn't get any confirmation that it found my earlier save or not. I just selected Simulate Witcher 2 save and it proceeded to the intro cutscene.

You didn't see this option?
