Its actually not that the mids are worse than the RE1s or anything. Its just that since the RE1s treble is rolled off I listen to them at a higher than normal volume while the RE262 I hear at a lower volume. So the mids are much more prominent with the RE1 so its perceptibly better as the mids volume is higher than the RE262 and seems 'forward'

with the AKG K702 i really Love the treble i get at High volumes !!
 
^ I don't think he listens to lot of treble heavy music. That's all :)

I'm sure that RE-262 has better mids than RE1. It's more efficient than RE1. It's also euphonic compared to RE1. From what I've read, RE262 has one of the most capable dynamic drivers around. I've even read that the driver's capabilities are not fully revealed in the 262. I won't be surprised if Head-Direct did a re-tuning of the same driver to give us 272 or something :)

Secondly, I always prefer a volume matched (however unscientific) based comparison between IEMs. Louder the volume, easier it is for us to hear, better the perception of quality and details.

But BF1983's just got it. So, I hope he'll like 262 more in the coming days. While RE1's mids were good, I did not think they were great. At that time, I preferred RE-252's mids to them.

e-Q5 of course has a more organic mid range. I usually get picky about both sides of the spectrum (as in the case of RE1). But with e-Q5, I did not care too much. It has enough at both ends to keep me happy. I found FX700's mids 'terribly lacking' when I was testing them right after e-Q5 the first day. RE-262 from what I've read should not be too far behind.
 
after listning to 262 for a a long stretch, if i put on the FX700 ...i do find the FX700 mids lacking ...but thats just the effect of ...superb mids of RE262.

IF only the treble of re262 was not this laid back i Would have loved them.
 
I am not sure how laid back the treble of RE262 is. But based on what you say, I think you should give CK10/DBA-02 a try some day :). CK10 does have a spike at 10Khz, which might be too much for some, but it seems a slight bit better than DBA-02 FWIR. At the very least, it has the best build quality according to many.

Considering that I like DBA-02 even after all these IEMs, I am thinking of giving CK10 a try some day post cleanup of my IEM collection.
 
Unfortunately the CK10s are discontinued. :(

Dunno why Audio-Technica did such a thing.

@Strategy - No I don't like lots of treble. My preference of the RE262, RE1 and HD650 should attest to that fact ! :P
 
^^ LCD 2 is the TOP TIER for you then ! :)

and BTW CK 10 has only been discontinued in the US ..it sells in japan still ! because of that the price has gone up!

esantosh , yeah i am interested in CK10 and DBA but ...let the miracke come ...they are also said to have great treble. i hope i dont want to try the CK10 and DBA then ;)

But yeah if i get a chanse ...i will definitely try both !!

Err thats only on my desktop rig. :ashamed:

Though the RE1s do have a little too little treble presence for my liking. My HD650 also has rolled off treble but still much better than the RE1. Even my Ibasso OPAMPs are tuned to provide more emphasis on treble.

@Strategy - If you find the RE262 to have recessed treble, you will go zonkers if you hear the RE1s !!! :P

Probably the most treble light earphone over $70 you will ever find. Though I simply love them for their fatigue free sound.

Also you don't have to come to Mumbai to listen to good audio stuff. The correct place for you will be Coimbatore !!! :P

More audio gear present there than the rest of the country. ;)

as of now i want to visit titana's place ...but i hardly know him :(
 
I'll buy CK10 at some stage, but not sure right now.

I've decided to wait for my headphone rig. At the speed anubhav is going, I expect him to buy and sell the Burson HA160D and HD800 two days after he gets them. Anubhav! I've pre-booked. Remember that ;)

Hope you really mean it. I haven't seen you hold on to anything for long ever since the RE-252. At the end of the day, it's not just a question of buying a headphone / IEM / audio gear and immediately liking or disliking it. If I had done that, I'd have sold off most of my current favourite IEMs. Sometimes you say you like them (like RE-252) and then within 3 hours, we see a FS thread for it :S.

r u getting a good seal

cuz 262 mids are fwd and @ lower vol feel more intimate thn re1

though if u turn up the vol re1 mids come fwd, sounds more thick, slow, less airy as comp 2 re262

Hay ...i suggested that combo to anubhav ...and i suggested him that i will offer him better prices for it !! ...I am first in the LINE ! :( :@
 
He hasn't even got the combo yet and we are already fighting over who's first in line :P

Let him get the combo and hopefully he attains his audio nirvana with that setup.
