^ But, you've not compared them personally with SE530 and that's what I meant ;). It's the best among what you own / owned probably by miles - TF10, FX700, RE262, S4 and others. It's similar to me making a statement that e-Q5 has the best mid-range ever without trying e-Q7, RE262 and SE53X :P
One word.......Fanboism!! :P

Can't wait for Mumbai Canjam. Faheem cud you please do the honors of hosting a thread. anytime 1st week of jan.

Well I have had much more listening time with the RE262 and I am liking them more an more and at the same time I am also appreciating my RE1 also more and more ! :P

Contradictory ? Well then letme explain, I listen to these IEMs on a train coming and going to work. When I go to work I am more alert and pay more attention to the music and the RE262 shines as its much more transparent than the RE1.

On my way back from work, I am dog tired and looking to relax. Over here the RE262 is a bit too revealing for my tastes and the slight sibilance I hear doesn't help. In this case I prefer the rounded smoother signature of the Re1s to the sharper presentation of the RE1s.

Another point is that I have tuned my amp purely for the RE1s and I have not had a chance to tune them for the RE262s. Maybe a retune will help make me appreciate the Re262s better. :)

I am also happy to have scored a new pair for 7.5k which was approximately what I paid for my RE1s 1.5 years back. :P

Btw, ClieOS reviewed the e-Q5 and the RE262 comes on top !!! :D

Also someone compared the SM3 and the RE262 with an amp that I have little respect for (Pico Slim) and its not a toss up between the two. :)

^ What happened with the Pico Slim? Isn't it supposed to be one of "the best" amps available?

@BF1983,

You should listen to RE262 without all the tuning for RE1. On equal footing, I am sure RE-262 will beat RE1. I thought you'd get rid of RE1, but you still haven't :@ :P

Either the Pico Slim I got from Nukey was defective or its over hyped. It couldn't even drive the RE1 perfectly .No power at all . The sound quality / transparency and detailing was ofcourse amazing but whats the use of an amp with no power :S

Can't drive the RE1?

Even my lowly iBasso T3 was decent enough. May be someone technically inclined can tell if the power output power value is low -

From HeadAmp - Audio Electronics (pico SLIM Portable Amp)

Output Voltage 4V peak-to-peak, 1.4Vrms

Output Power 0.35Wrms w/ 32 ohm load

iBasso T3 (From Manual: http://www.ibasso.com/download/2010226223556.pdf)

Maximum Output power:120mW+120mW

Guess it's difficult to discern from this. iBasso does not provide as detailed specs as the Slim.

Yup it cud be ur amp or ur preferences

Never heard any sibilance with thm(i nvr heard sibilance on any track till date, anyhow i will double check with some sibilant tracks)

yesterday i lied down with 262 and i was lost into some other world.

could be fatigue or whtever but for 30-40 seconds it felt like i m hearing my music live, totally surrounded by music(recording was also very gud).

i m not a fanboy of 262, but i consider it worth 8k and it suits my preferences.

 :hap5:

^ You could be right about RE-262 or Brendon has songs that have sibilance in recording.

@Brendon,

To consider one more possibility, are you in anyway using EQ in your portable setup, especially boosted highs for RE1?

Pico slim a Hoax !! i am in a middle of a deal for Pico DAC(only) !! ..should i cancel it !

brendon, yeah ther are hardly any issues of sibilance with re262 ! :(

santosh, i thin clieos rattings take the valus also in account ! :)

wow just saw that !! :O ...lol he rates them over DBA !lol, thats his peronal preference :) MUST REALLY love its signature then ! :)

also , i cant help but wonder weather the re262 are under-hyped because of their going price and the fact that they came free with the hm602 !

I got this feeling too. Despite the positive reviews, RE-262s are not hyped as much as some of the FOTM products were. I know that Head-Direct is already working on something better than 262 already tentatively called RE272 - see clieOS' "Potential reviews" section, though nobody knows when they are going to come up. May be as I speculated a while ago, RE272 would bring out all the capabilities of the RE262 driver. If it is as good as I expect, I'll upgrade from RE252. But, I am not sure when it'll come out :(

my wallet dnt like ths........u want tht i shud start skipping my meals

Ok, I seem to have stirred up a hornets nest ! :P

I do listen to my music a bit loud so its possible thats the reason why I hear sibilance from time to time. And just to explain its nowhere near the sibilance of the Hippo VB, just a slight harshness of the ssssssssssssss sound.

I am very sensitive to any harshness and thats the reason I love earphones like the RE1 and Brainwavz M3. (And no I will NEVER sell the RE1s !!! :P)

And coming back to the Pico slim, yes it was very detailed but sounded a bit dry and underpowered for my tastes. The Ibasso P3+ is tuned to have a more lush/smooth midrange in comparison.

@Strategy - I have not heard the Pico Slim DAC so I dunno how it sounds. If you want a DAC I would suggest the Music Streamer II. It costs around $149 and its sounds better than all the other DACs I have tried - udac, Compass DAC, Hotaudio Mark IV, Hippo DAC and Ibasso D4.

santosh, yeah i have read that 262's drivers are a lot better than they are being portrayed as ! i would like to do the foam mod but ..:( am afraid ( even though it does not look that heavy! )

Brendon, no i was not looking for amps specially, read soo much about the pico products ..was getting a good deal on the dac thats why PMed him ! :)

Mukul,Why not!! ? SLIM is in !:P think, think how much could you save !! you can get LCD2 in 4 months !!

I'd put it down to better treble response, may be ;). RE1's roll-off begins much earlier. It's possible that the recording itself has sibilance and RE1s being rolled off does not stress that enough. In the forthcoming head-fi meet, probably you can A-B the same songs with a few other IEMs which have good highs. If you hear them bringing out sibilance more, it's possible that RE-262 with it's smoother, laidback treble is just staying true to the recording.

I asked him about it. He just likes the Eterna V1 more and says that Eterna V2 is nowhere close. He is also not sure about the coming up 're-released' Eterna V1. Since I like TF10 and seeing where it is in his ranking, I guess he prefers non-fatiguing, fun and enjoyable phones more. He also has a preference for mids, warmth and musicality over analytical, dry phones.

ljokerl leans more towards analytical sound personally, but his reviews are more unbiased (See UM3X and SM3). dfkt enjoys V-shaped sound and hates dry, analytical, thin sounding, less bassy phones. mark2410 just hates any excess on either side of the spectrum - To each his own :)

Jokers preference of analytical sound and His 10/10 ratting to the SM3 Has struck me !! :O

he even dropped The earlier 10/10 scorers

if SM3 was remold-able i would have bought them ...but its not as i take it :(

If you try SM3, you'll know why ;). It's not that hard for me to believe why he has SM3 at 10/10 and the rest ranked downwards.

On re-molding, why not? They are BA after all. Probably the best way is to ask if Earsonics does it. Otherwise, the final signature might suffer.

This is one comment I read about the foam-modded RE-262: Hifiman RE262 Initial Impressions - Page 26 - Head-Fi.org Community

There definitely is more treble detail but the 262s have lost a bit of body, depth and texture to the bass. I think the slight bass emphasis worked well with the wide soundstage of the 262s.
