I'm not a "more experienced" gamer, just a casual gamer like most of us out here. That said, I myself have considered GTA IV to be one of the greatest sandbox action games. I haven't played the first Mafia game, nor have I seen any of the movies. I don't even know if it's (Mafia II) linked with the movie in anyway, is connected to the first game or a fresh new game altogether; none of us know that. Hence how can we even predict of it not surpassing GTA IV? We haven't even been introduced to it's complete gameplay mechanics, the characters, the weapons, side missions etc. There are so many things which are not revealed.

Moreover, when you say "We have hell lot of Mafia stories in books, movies and games what different perspective could Mafia 2 (3,4,5...etc) could offer?", I don't think every gamer out there may have read all those books, watched all those movies or played all the Mafia games. Do you remember GTA IV's storyline also included Mafia bosses? That's how Roman gets involved in those difficult circumstances in the first place. Jon Gravelli? Jimmy Pegorino? Vladimir Glebov? Who are those people? Nothing but Mafias or mobsters. GTA IV had a great deal of sub-plot linked around it.

Many games have had their fair share of Mafia linkages in them. So why do you doubt Mafia II's storyline won't offer something different on the table?

Also it's not necessary that if there are films, books and games already made, that a new game won't be able to offer something creative. The best example of this would be Chronicles of Riddick. It already had the movie franchise established, so why were both it's games such a hit? They offered a brand new storyline as opposed to the movies and a good one at that. I hope you understand what I mean to say.
A American crime story without Mafia cannot be called a American crime story. Mafia is a intergral part of American criminal society . GTA IV was about Niko Bellic, a non-Sicilian. The involvment of Mafia was but necessary.

If you have read or watched any Mafia books or movies you get a fair idea what a mafia story would be like. It is the same rehashed shit. Some Sicilian family in America, a old mob boss betrayed by some another mob boss, his son -nephew etc becomes part of the business, lots of killing, killing people in the Family, shitty Sicilian values, stupid Sicilian accent. It has
now become boring, nothing new. There are lot of movies in Hollywood made on mafia today, but nobody gives a shit.
Similarly when Mafia 2 comes out, ppl would know what story to expect. The same rehased shit mentioned above. Nothing different. Hence my point.

Regarding gameplay mechanics what different gameplay mechanics can it offer. All games have same basic gameplay : shoot anything that is pointing gun at you . Its the story and way it is presented that matters.

^^ how good is the story of Modern Warfare ? How good is its gameplay ? What is the ratings it got ? What do you think the ratings are based on ? Great Immersive Gameplay or story? Anyway....Like I said earlier, each gamer has different perspectives....

Out of the entire post that you wrote, this is the only wise thing that came out of it. This statement renders your initial comment moot because Mafia II hasn't even released yet. So you have no clue what the exact storyline is, no clue what how it will be presented, yet somehow you have concluded that it won't surpass GTA IV. So the statement you made at the beginning was based on an assumption. Now do you think "assumption" is a good step in a discussion?

Again I am saying this:
The Mafia stories are covered in many angles possible in movies and games,so there wont be anything innovative or new in Mafia 2. The new game maybe stylish and slick, but nothing unexpected.

Are you sure its gonna get reviews like GTA IV? I don't think so and that was my original point.

Every GTA brings in new features, establishes new trends. Other simply follow it. Remember the original Mafia was inspired by GTA.

And assumptions are part of discussions.

I don't argue with that. Some ppl find Half Life boring and not worth playing. Some ppl find games which are very poorly rated interesting. Ppl have their own views. I was only talking about ratings. And I said Mafia 2 cannot have ratings like GTA IV thats all.

^The future is not your to perdict. I played Mafia 1 last month and found it pathetic because of the grafics but I don't blame mafia because I should have played that game when it was released rather than waiting 3yrs.

Mafia 2 may have better rating than GTA. I don't care about the rating, its the game that matters not the ratings. Who told you that mafia that there won't be anything "innovative or new in Mafia". Are you the developer/writer of the game? And to be frank GTA 4 didn't have better improvements than GTA SA, so many things were removed like flying planes, etc. So i can also say there will be nothing "innovative or new in GTA6". So you can't say anything bad about a game which is not even released unless its proved by official sources.

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say. Tell you what, let the game release, play it for yourself, screw the reviews and you tell us how you found it. I'm saying this because after that you'll have a better opinion of the game, instead of speculating on every aspect, which is really not getting us anywhere.

GTA IV was far more serious and logical than its previous iterations. Regarding innovations :
-Mobile Phone
-Shooting from Cars (Show me any game that can do it better)
-Shooting from Boat (In crysis, you cant shoot with your gun in the boat, you can only shoot using turret)
-Going inside/outside the building without a cutscence.
-Vehicle mechanics and collision detection.( Even a faint scratch was visible on cars and pillars)
-Internet
-Billiards (I dont know any game that lets u play billiards so naturally)

I can go on. The enhancements are subtle and improve the game. They are not done in way that does a shows off.

I am not badmouthing Mafia. I am not paid by Rockstar. All I am saying is the Mafia thing is done countless time and its high time to do something new.

Amidst all GTA and Mafia comparison. I am really disappointed Diablo 3 is not releasing this year, Diablo 2 was one of the best games I ever played, infact even a replay 6 months back felt nice :)

Am looking forward to Deus ex 3 too, the trailer looked very promising.

My most awaited game for this year has to be Witcher! Have read about some of the improvements CD Projekt have done on it. Oh, BTW, NO LOADING TIMEs!!
read here: killing-time-with-the-witcher-2-assassins-of-kings
Cant wait for Diablo 3 either. But really I'm having some serious doubts about it releasing even next year. I think it will release on Decemeber 12, 2012 and then the world will come to an end!! :)

Jokes aside, I have doubts about Blizzards intentions. I hope they dont split Diablo into 2/3 parts like they did for Starcraft. I also cant help getting a feeling that DLCs would be a huge part of Diablo. Hope I'm completely off the mark on this.

Diablo 3 will most likely consist of the base game followed by an expansion an year later.

I don't see D3 focussing much or at all on DLC as the essence of the game is farming for the very best gear as opposed to simply buying it as DLC.
I suppose DLC could add additional classes, but I'd be very surprised if that happened.

^The way Blizzard propping up the Blizzard store and the new Battle.net, I'm having a bad feeling there could be micro-transactions/paid online play/DLCs etc.. Of course this could just be my silly imaginations :)

But, I'm sure micro-transactions will become a big part of WoW from now on. Hope they keep all that away from Diablo 3.

Blizzard may want to make WOW later in FUTURE, said by one of top honcho said so - source changing in revenue model is the necessary change needed by gaming industry (spcly PC gaming)
