there are many other 3G devices/phones working fine in India so I don't see any problem with different frequency

Edit - I just checked, this is indeed a serious issue actually as 3G in many devices don't work in India which are purchased from USA

nope there are 2 major frequencies in US 1700 and 2100
one is used by AT&T and the other by T-mobile.. dunno which one uses which frequency...

Well Dell Streak specification says that it supports following bands:

Bands
UMTS 2100 / 1900 / 850 MHz
GSM / EDGE 1900 / 1800 / 900 / 850 MHz
HSDPA / HSUPA:HSDPA 7.2 Mbps / HSUPA 5.76 Mbps

AFAIK in India, 3G works on 2100Mhz band. So I think it should work with Indian 3G but not sure. Can anyone throw some light on this?

I am getting this one for sure. But I'll have to wait till Feb end to get this one :( The one who'll bring this one to me, will come only in Feb :bad bad bad:

Ya this will work in India as UMTS is the 3G/3.5G band....
If it was 1700MHz then thr were less chances of it working here in India....

since 3g on iphone is working for most of the people in india, my guess is at&t uses 2100.

Regarding 3G bands. here is the difference

US version: Bands

UMTS 2100 / 1900 / 850 MHz

GSM / EDGE 1900 / 1800 / 900 / 850 MHz

Indian Version: Bands :

UMTS 2100/900 MHz

GSM / EDGE 1900 / 1800 / 900 / 850 MHz

I think it should work, as AFAIK indian operators work in 900/1800 band which is supported by this phone
