Video-downloader for non-youtube sites

^ any particular reason why? I use both Freemake Video Downloader and Convertor and I find both extremely useful. For videos that Freemake isnt ablt to download, I use EagleGet.

even i had freemake video downloader/converter, but uninstalled it long back; though don't remember the reason why. perhaps didn't quite cut it for me. i should try it again now!

I'm using Firefox + Download YouTube Videos as MP4 + DownThemAll!

I use downthemall to mass download the videos on Coursera, and it works really well for that. Right click on the page and it'll show you a list of links that can be downloaded, add a video filter and it'll download your video.

Freemake bundles or used to bundle OpenCandy and there is no way to opt out unless you install the offline setup using the /nocandy flag. Otherwise it works absolutely fine.

BTW the IDM extension has been blocked by Chrome.

For Firefox users, DownloadHelper is a good add-on for downloading videos, and many users have posted praises for it... and they have said that it works even when YouTube keeps changing the protocols. So, Firefox users can try that.

Regarding Freemake products, I too had my doubts about them, but not now. They are proven to be good software. They do bundle OpenCandy, and Delta Toolbar too. But, these can be opted out easily. Choose custom installation while installing Freemake products, and opt out of the Delta Toolbar, etc. In the following screen, a product is suggested, from OpenCandy, which can too be opted out by choosing to not accept it. Then, the extras won't be installed.

The offline setups for the Freemake products can be found here:

http://www.freemake.com/offline/offline_all/

BTW, someone on an other forum suggested that YouTube have changed protocols, because of which some software may seem to download a video file, as mp4, but the file is not actually mp4, and may not play correctly. So, if some of you are wondering about the downloaded videos not playing, it might be because of the above reason.

Ok this is one video i tried downloading but am unsuccessful. It does not show up in keepvid, IDM does not recognize it when video is started and even the download them all firefox addon is not recognizing. If any one can try to see if they can download (don't download entirely, just see whether it is even available for download).

Can't download it using Firefox, but if you want to watch it online and then save it then you can use VideoCacheView and once the file finishes buffering on your computer you can save it. I've used it for 40 minute videos and it worked well, but I don't know if it'll work for a 2 hour video.

@ch@ts

But youtube does not buffer entire video if i keep it paused right ? Can you tell me how to use this thing your mentioned ?

Yes, Freemake Video Downloader is not able to download that video.

To use VideoCacheView, let the whole video buffer.. or, let the whole video run, and then finish. Don't close that page, that's important. Then, run VideoCacheView. It should show the video in the list. Save that video to a different place... that option is provided within the program itself.[DOUBLEPOST=1375015547][/DOUBLEPOST]That video seems to be protected with YouTube's new protocol. I tried with different downloaders, like Freemake, StreamTransport, Vso Downloader, DownloadHelper add-on... none of them are able to download it.

It seems like it will take sometime before the downloading software are able to crack this protection.

It's strange though. Just a few days ago, I downloaded a video from YouTube. Some videos seem to be protected, some aren't.

Even KeepVid isn't able to download it.

A lot of Elearning sites are also using this protocol. Its basically live streaming. The sort that used to be done with .RM real media files long back..

The iPad screenshot above in my post probably gives a hint that it is some other protocol - RTMP, something like real time m... protocol i guess.
That's why i cannot download using anything, not even protube on iPad.
But am glad that lot of other gujarati dramas are downloadable. My internet connection at home(in Mumbai) is okiesh and i have nothing which can play youtube on TV and my dad enjoys these dramas a lot (me too actually) and so this gives me opportunity to download them and put in my media player at home so he can watch whenever he wants.
My laptop is on continuously On since yesterday morning downloading them one after other (offcourse i am manually queuing them).[DOUBLEPOST=1375084336][/DOUBLEPOST]Does anyone know how i can stitch several youtube videos to make it one video ? There are some full length films / dramas which have like 15 - 16 parts and each is 10 Minutes, i wish to download all and then combine them to make a single full length video, is it possible ? I download them in .mp4 format using keepvid.

I read on some sites that Avidemux can be used to join mp4 files. But, it might be difficult to operate Avidemux, and may require reading its help or a tutorial.

Other options that I found by searching around are:

Yamb: http://yamb.unite-video.com/features.html

Mp4Joiner: http://www.mp4joiner.org/en/
It's an open source project, and seems to be in development.

AoA Video Joiner: http://www.aoamedia.com/videojoiner.htm
They bundle extra software with their setup, so be careful.

Freemake Video Converter can also join video files, according to its feature list.

I have not used any of these software to join mp4 files personally, so I would not know how they perform.

I think i need to try Freemake on couple of existing files and if it works, i shall get downloading with the 10min clips. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I queue it up on jDownloader and it works good. Downloaded some 9.5GB+ videos yesterday night as well. YT kills the download links every 24 hours or so, so most downloaders will have problems to automatically resume. No problems with jD at all. But it is bit resource hungry.

P.S. 50GBs more to completely suck dry a certain YT channel :P
