Video-downloader for non-youtube sites

@ev1lb0ygen1us

You just put the actual youtube links in jDownloader and it starts downloading one after other ? Also how to select the quality to download ? Like many a times some vidoes might be 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p and say i want all downloads to be 480p only then how do i configure this ?
Also since it is heavy on system, will a GPU help ? Sorry i am noob with GPU and all but my laptop has stamina and speed mode where in stamina it uses the on board HD4000 graphics and when in speed mode it uses the Nvidia GPU. I always use in stamina mode as i never play games or do any resource intensive tasks.

For now since i use IDM and keepvid, and i have stopped some file download today and next day i need to go to keepvid again and make a new link and supply the new link to IDM for that file and it resumes fine. But if i can sort of queue downloads then i can save my wife the ordeal of checking downloading every hour.

Just make sure the link grabber option is checked. Then all you have to do is just -> Right click on the video and copy link address. (yes you dont even have to open the video). It will automatically paste the URL on jD clipboard and starts to decrypt the links. Also if you copy the playlist link, it will automatically decrypt the links for all the videos in the playlist. Also yeah, you can chose any formats (mp4, webm, flv, 3gb, mp3) and the resolutions available. Use the filter option to select the desired format.

Well its not that resource hungry, only the startup is slow compared to other downloaders. It runs on JRE, hence the slow startup. And no, GPU wont help. I run it on my netbook without any problems. ;)

Whatever i tried, could not make jDownloader work with Youtube. It did detect the link and offered me options of FLV, MP4,WebM etc but the download would never start, would keep on showing as connecting. Gave up finally. Aldo tried the Freemake software but for some reason it wasn't taking entire bandwidth and i could not figure out how to queue downloads with only one download happening at given time.
Back to Keepvid + IDM. And yes i too download 2 videos simultaneously to max out the connection.

Yesterday night i had kept like 10 youtube videos for download in IDM and each video was average 500 MB in size. In morning at 9 Types, i saw that all the videos were incomplete (except the last one) and everything was showing 0 Bytes/sec. I had to refresh the URLs (using keepvid and copying the new URL in properties of each download) of each of the video and then it resumed again.
Is there any good and malware free and light on system app which can batch download youtube videos, where i can just give the youtube links and it downloads in the pre-mentioned quality (360p etc) ?
Last time i tried jdownloader and the Freemake but they somehow messed up my system where i had to restore my system to a previous restore point to make things usable again, so i am not using any of these softwares again.

Freemake. And if you install it properly (avoid the junk it bundles) there is nothing to screw it up. Just keep a check on what it installs take a minute to study every window of the installation. It works flawlessly for me as of now.

I did uncheck that delta toolbar and all junk but still ended up with something called webcake or something.

Does anyone know after how many hours does a youtube download link expire ? If you check the URL of the download link you will find something called "expiry=68763232", there is some number there but i cannot decrypt that number.
In practical usage, i found that probably download links expire after 5-6 Hours.

Yesterday night at 11 PM i kept 7 videos for download and at 6 AM all had stopped. I checked the DW Meter log and it was downloading fine (around 400+ MB per hour) till 4 AM and then started dropping.

Never faced any sort of problems with jDownloader though their novamov plugin is giving out of date error since the past couple of weeks :( Have you updated your version of java? Maybe that might help.

Regarding b/w jd can take up your full bandwidth but doesn't hog it like other download managers/torrents which means you can browse normally while downloading.

Guys. I am using jdownloader since past 2-3 years. Best software out there. but if you really want to download video from ANY SITE. then use Orbit downloader. it's free. What's the catch? You have to use IE to download the videos. This software has a unique leeching extension which gets attached to the IE browser as a toolbar. When u will open a page it detects the source and gives u option to either download or cancel. Note: It doesn't download actually but leech the video which u r streaming right then. if u want the video to be downloaded separately then it has the option to download it via it's own download manager. It used to integrate with Firefox but not with new versions. So, if u really want to use it with firefox then download the last portable version it supported. Also, haven't tried it on opera. maybe it will work on latest version.

Ok so i again gave a try to jDownloader. The webinstaller was super slow for me so i downloaded an offline installer (some 26 MB) and it worked fine. I basically want to download from putlocker and sockshare and here are some of the queries i have related to jDownloader and the websites i want to download from

1. The website where i want to download the videos from, is a common website but it hosts the videos on putlocker / sockshare etc but the video plays inside the original website, how can i get the main putlocker/sockshare link so i can put that in jDownloader ? Will the firefox extension of jdwonloader help ?
I know one way for finding putlocker links, see point 2.

2. The original website has say some video and the main link of the actual video says something like this....
www[dot]website[dot]com/id?=DKSJKSFDGJFJDGFDJ

I know this last junk text is the id for original put locker so if i change it to

www[dot]putlocker[dot]com/file/DKSJKSFDGJFJDGFDJ

This link is identified by jDownloader and it also downloads the video, but is there a simpler way to get the links or getting jDownloader the recognize the link and downloading the video ?

3. When using putlocker / sockshare, it allows me to download 2-3 videos and after that gives me error that download limit for my country is over and so i cannot download more. VPN is not an option for me as of now so consider that out.
So i put 4-5 videos of putlocker to be downloaded in jDownloader but after it was done with 3 videos the rest 2 did not download and i got some plugin out of date error.
Is this really a plugin out of date or the country limit hit me, i thought jDownloader would ensure that i don't get the country limit error.

4. There is an option in jDownloader at the top to rest the internet to get a new IP, what does it essentially do ? Same thing as turning off the modem/router and restarting it ?

5. I was also wanting to download from a gorillavid.in link and it straightway gave me plugin out of date error, something like that. How do i fix such errors ?

Sorry for the long post.

Copy the website link having the embedded videos into linkgrabber and it will ask you if you want to parse links within the page and it will grab links of the embedded videos.
I'd recommend videoweed.es for your downloads - they have no download limits, allows multiple connections, resumable and doesn't give plugin out of date errors. If your website doesn't host videos from that site then you can try searching the website through google.
I've never got the reset internet option of jdownloader to work for me but I think that's pertty much the idea. Plugin out of date errors do pop up ocassionally but usually they get fixed with updates.

@chiron

When i copy a proper putlocker link the link grabber automatically detects it but does not detect the original "website" link where the video is embedded, so are you suggesting me that i should copy the original website link in link grabber and let it parse it and ask me about what to download ?

Also not videos i want to download are available from videoweed.es so that won't work for me. I will still search through google.

Do i need to manually do check for updates to fix these errors ?
Also what is that continuous "Module running" thing in the bottom of jDownloader ?

Hello everyone!

one more query. is there any good software (preferably 'free'), in which i could just drag-and-drop thumbnails of videos on a youtube video-page (from the right-column of 'recommended videos')?! there's one Xilisoft Youtube HD Video Downloader. however, it slows down the machine. another alternative is Tomabo's Youtube Video Downloader, a good one, but i don't think there is the option of simultaneous downloads in it. in Xilisoft, i could download 3 vidoes simultaneously. any suggestions?!
