What to wear on first day of job ? Plus any tips for first day ?

What is wrong with you all. He just asked about attire and clothes. I really do not get it why you are teaching him office machinations and politics before he even joins. Is this the moral fiber and ethical fabric we all possess..? Just shut-up with this pagal/yeda nonsense, and let him be at peace. I still remember my first day at office: -and- I did not walk in with such inclinations and subjective thoughts, nor should anyone. Just wish him luck, tell him his answer, and move on.

I suggest you should be in formals on your first day. You should wear any light color shirt like sky blue or grey with any dark colored trousers. You can wear tie too. Just don't be hesitate. All the best!

  • formal, ful sleeve solid shirt ( avoid stipes and checks ...), dark trousers, black is perfect for the first day.
  • ensure your shoes are polished.
  • please dont wear a brown belt with a black shoe and vice versa.
  • please dont wear white socks under black trousers.
i follow last 3 tips above everyday so nothing special for the first day!

1st day tips : smile more, be positive, relax and keep things simple.

Congratulations. It all depends on where you work & what is the work culture at your company. If all wearing yo-cool tees & jeans, if you wear formals it will lulz for you, IMO. Just have a good bath, be clean shaven :wacky:

Anyways, where I work currently, me go with tee & shorts, flippers or sandals :P never tie, formals, full sleeves, shoes & crap.

PS : will try lungi some day. It would be kick ass :couchpotato: :woot:

Please don't confuse lungi with a dhoti! :banghead:

You don't wear this to the office:

Although this is done on traditional days (esp. during Onam, Vishu etc.) at many organisations:

@Gannu What if he really had a Lungi day? It is quite common in Kerala and Karnataka to prefer Lungi over Dhoti.

Not really sure about that but wearing a lungi to a workplace looks quite ridiculous and out of place. Unless it was a fancy dress competition sorts.

Besides, some people often confuse a dhoti with a lungi. Both are different.

I know they are different, but there are expensive Lungis that are used as formal wear too. You are just considering the common ones with fancy colours and designs; they also come in silk and other expensive fabrics with embroidered borders.
