When you got married ?

In that case ,you are very lucky. Most people dont meet for the first time at the altar nowadays, but no one bothers with the pre-marital workshop or whatever. Christians generally are a more broad minded lot.

The problem is, even if the girl has a problem with the boy, in most cases she has almost no chance of telling the truth and getting out of it.

Nikhil, I dont think marriages these days happen that way for the most part... maybe in a few villages....

I certainly would say that you need to meet the right girl to stay happily married and enjoy the life as you have never done before, luckily i did found mine, took just 1 year to realise that she is the one, only problem being I didnt realise earlier that my PC hardware prices will go down so drastically to maintain the happiness in my married life, . And whether arranged or love does not make much of a difference till the time both of you are ready to sacrifice and know how to maintain the balance. I have sacrificed all my spendings on my PC hardware now and doing with a lowly, Stacker for 4k, QX9650 for just 1000 bucks, 3870x2 got free for testing. Thats what I mean by sacrifice and maintaining the balance, :eek:hyeah:

Yep...me too found that my 2407 was a handicap and finally switched to consoles...and even that is sparingly used these days...:p

I know its just a typo, but just on the off chance that u have a guy stealing chips from the foundry :bleh: Me want one too :eek:hyeah:

I guess i put it in a bad way, that is the price told to my better half to maintain harmony in our relation and keeping my pocket half full as well, :bleh: , but again get married and you can get a QX9650 for even free for testing just like the way i get so many hardware.

Tip : Relation of the price of a hardware is directly proportional to its size, except of course if you get it free for testing, :)

That is what I used to think earlier until it hit closer home. A couple of friends are in a bad state right now because of this.

In addition to that, I have heard of lots of cases like this in our circle. And no one is from a village or dirt poor or anything. They are all educated (some of them are highly educated), successful and they still think like dumbasses.

well... i'm just nineteen and dont even have a gf... :D lol

but i enjoyed reading the thread.. lookin fwd to many more discussions ... is givin me plenty of food for thought - I'm a Psychology Major u see :D

as for the incidents being discussed by Vij and Nikhil, I'd like to add that yes, such incidents are prevalent regardless of class, financial background, social background, etc... and the prevalence is pretty high.. a few percent of such incidents get highlighted in magazines like India Today Outlook... and some TRP hungry news channels... but overall, from what i've read and heard... There are Forced arranged marriages happening... as in one party is not able to get out of the situation if he/she doesn't like the other party... due to social norms, unwillingness or fear of going against them, etc etc etc...

Yes the scene is changing, the mindset is changing , and hopefully the concept of "Marriage" will be elevated to more than just a necessary stage/chore to do in life... Hopefully, people will gain the understanding and importance of it... i'm still young, but that is no cause for not thinking about it :)

I'm still in the process (as are millions across the world) of understanding "why marriage?" "why NOT just bachelor and living for oneself?" "why the ritual and not just living with a partner?" etc etc etc etc etc....

well.. my few pennys... keep the anecdotes, discussions, etc coming! :D

Well my hindi sucks...but this is something my father in-law sent me -

Definition of a spouse -

Jo har baat par tok tok kar tumhari har aadat badal de

Aur 2 saal baad bole...

"Ab tum pehle jaise najhi rahe!"
Another one he sent me was -

Long ago, a person who sacrificed
his sleep, his leisure, his food, his
laughter.....were called saints!!!
But now they r called "Husbands"..!!!

still 4yrs left till I get married, but I would like to get settled in life in financial and social terms before I bring a girl into my life, I dont want her to face any problems because of me not settled financially and socially.

I am 20 right now, and being a gujju, ppl start forcing me to get married now, I mean wow are you nuts.. :O.

On an entirely unrelated note, I'd love to see what marriage gift would our friendly neighborhood Saiyan get for his would be...

I just hope it is not a water cooling kit...

I have a colleague who had been in and out of tonnes of short lived relationships who eventually got married after a final whirlwind liaison of 3 months ...

when he bought a xbox 360 as the marriage gift for his fiancee, i eventually realized why his earlier flings died an unnaturally short death....

Marriage is OK, but the responsibilities that come with it are scary :(.

Getting vegetables, cleaning kids pupu, dropping and picking them up from school and all, scary :(. Had first hand experience of cleaning pupu of my nephew so am already a bit scared right now :(.
