Graphic Cards Which 670 or Which 7970 ?

People from mumbai preferred as i'm doing a local pickup on my end. 24950/- and 34500/- for the 7950 and 7970 is still a better price than the quotes i got yesterday at lamington.

The Sapphire AMD HD 7970 DDR5 Vapor-X 3 Gb and 6 Gb versions are now on Flipkart.

Sapphire 7970 DDR5 Vapor-X 3 Gb - Rs.36808

Sapphire 7970 DDR5 Vapor-X 6 Gb - Rs.46438

suf got a better deal though in terms of pricing. Even more so if one considers that the $ was around 55 when suf made his post versus around 53 currently.

Too expensive and until you are not going Eyefinity no point in getting these cards.

Expensive yes.

I have only one display so Eyefinity is useless to me at the moment though I can see how it might be a powerful draw for people with more than one display.

The reason I want a 3GB (minimum) card is because I play a lot of mods. GPUs are quite expensive and its not very practical to change one every year. I need a card that will last at least 2 years. Cards with 2Gb of Ram are already struggling with memory on some mods today let alone 2 years from now.

I did consider the Nvidia 670 4Gb offerings from EVGA/Zotac etc. but the Sapphire 7970 Ghz seems to offer a better price/performance benefit. Similarly the 4Gb 680's are way too expensive. AMD's 3 Gb ram spec really seems to hit the sweet spot. Throw in Sapphires Vapor-X cooling system and its pretty much a done deal.

I'm still trying to get the Sapphire Vapor-X 3Gb from abroad (been out of stock on newegg for a while now) unless the Indian pricing goes down by around 4k in which case I would buy it here instead.

SMC seems to have lowered its AMD prices -

MSI R7970-2PMD3GD5 - Rs.29950

MSI R7970-2PMD3GD5/OC - Rs.28500

The OC card is cheaper...?

Your case is an exception but this is not always the scenario that is why I posted that is useless to the layman, who can live fine with a 2GB HD7870.

Better contact SMC International before making any purchases, they have placed these MSi cards very cheap somehow and a few days later the link disappears so my advice; just have a word with the guys before purchase.

Anyway to each his own, hope you get the card you desire. Cheerio!

I'm not personally interested in the MSI 7970's only the Sapphire Vapor-X version.

I posted those links for other people who might be interested in the price drop..

Im thinking of getting down an EVGA GTX 680 from the US soon.
Im getting it for around Rs.26500.

Good idea or no?

Great deal, which edition is it?

Best get a card with a better third-party cooler design. Stock nVidia vapour chamber design can get toasty with prolonged usage.

Newegg.com - EVGA 02G-P4-2680-KR GeForce GTX 680 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Thats the one Im looking at currently.
I too was looking at something with aftermarket cooling, however the ASUS and Gigabyte and even MSI ones dont seem to have such good buyer reviews
as compared to the EVGA one.

What if I have insanely good airflow in my case with 5 fans and even an airconditioner in the room. Wont that negate the heat issues that may arise?

That is the stock design.

How do you plan to substantiate that claim. How about you post some temperature screenshots to prove the insanely good airflow, although the AC should definitely help.

P.S. -- number of fans do not dictate the airflow in the cabinet. Just saying.

TBH, I am just about to build a gaming rig. When I said "What if I have insanely good airflow" I meant that if I was to build one with the 5 fans and such, would the card still run too hot. Wouldn't more fans and have them strategically placed, along with other components spaced out in an organized and neat manner help to have good airflow?
Thanks for the help.

More fans, bad placement = good airflow, not true.

Few fans, well placed = good airflow, true.

5 fans, well placed = good airflow, depends; on your fan placement, size of cabinet and the CFM value of the fans and how they interact with each other. In cohesion OR in chaos.

Now that you have stated that you need a gaming RIG, what cabinet do you plan to buy to accommodate all the components?

Which SMPS shall power it and will the AC run all the time the desktop is operational OR in bursts?

Good that I did not buy the cards that time , great price cuts happening . Almost by 3-3.5k . thats a lot of money for a relatively small amount of waiting time .
Am going out so it will have to wait for another month , hope prices settle at good levels till then .

Also happy to know that other 670's are coming out . Specially the windforce edition , might go for that if the top or amp dont fit the bill . As Asus is not reducing the prices at the moment .
It is still selling at high prices .
Thanks to @aryacooldude also for precise info on other thread.

Also there is a flex edition now in the sapphire cards , what does " flex " mean here ? .

Got this For TechPowerup

Sapphire's HD 7870 Flex uses the AMD Reference clocks, but comes with a unique feature. It is able to support three DVI/HDMI monitors without the need for an active DisplayPort adapter. This make life easier for users who plan to use EyeFinity.

Don't go for the Vapor-x. Vrm design isn't optimal and they get too hot on overclocking. Touching 103c here at 1100 core. I find that uncomfortable for 24/7 usage. Core remains at 64c though. I think the dual-x OC or the flex would have served me better.

Try the HIS 7950 iceQ version. I've heard only good things about it. And my IceQ 4850 was rock solid.

Ah so you got your card! Congrats. :)

Problem is I need a 7970 Ghz edition - a stock 7970 doesn't really hold up to a 680. I am not interested in a 7950 at all.

The HIS 7970 Ghz edition is $610 (about $660 with taxes) which is much higher than the 7970 Vapor-X (around $540 including taxes) and at that price point ($600), it makes more sense to buy an EVGA GTX 680 with 4GB than a 7970 with 3 GB.

I am going to continue looking for the Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 from abroad for now. If FK decides to lower its prices by a couple of thousand more I would buy it from here.

Also thanks for the feedback Suf on your card.
