Currently Im using a Debit card from a Nationalised Bank(canara),service is not all that great. A reverse deposit/refund takes ~ a month to show!

As Debit card is not accepted for online shopping from abroad, I need to get a Credit card. Went to my old bank, they are ready but I want better service.

Please suggest best Banks for Debit & Credit cards.

Get a HDFC Netsafe account. You get a physical debit card and facility to create virtual credit cards valid on Paypal / international purchases

Ok that's something new & interesting. I would like to know more about this!

Had an account in HDFC some years back but their dealings seemed fradulant. Closed the Account & went back to Nationalised banks. Maybe they've improved over time!

Already been through the links. What do these Gold, Platinium, etc. mean?

Requirements for Credit card would be IT returns?

Like our friends here told about Netsafe, etc. So would a Debit card double up as Credit card then?

I would recommend ICICI and SBI based on my experience. Would have mentioned StanC too but I don't think they have cards without any fees. If none of these have, you could try going for the Manhattan card. Great if you are a heavy spender.

IMO one should have a physical credit card @ axis bank to generate eshop card or whatever they call it!!
But for HDFC and Kotak u just need to have a saving account with them to generate virtual cards (i myself using kotak card [netc@rd] which i can link to paypal for online transactions).

Dude, If you want Nationalized bank but good service then try Corporation Bank. They are much better than Canara [I had Canara bank account - Worse debit card and ATM's Suck big time] Using Corporation Bank Debit card as well as Credit card from past 12 and 4 Years No problems till date.

A bit off topic but can those Netsafe/Virtual cards be also used for buying via the EMI route? Are they equivalent to a credit card in every sense of the term?

^ Legally add as in? I added the address 'on the record' the way you told last time. I have a Manhattan

Sarkari bank SBI has added but card is not working on HP US website

tried it

They have added in record

I want it full proof

This trick sometimes doesnt work

like today trick worked with logitech US but failed on verizon wireless

So now the wishlist includes:

SBI

ICICI

SBI

HDFC

AXIS

CORPORATION

Kotak Mahindra

Hows Indian oversees bank?

Which of these would be the best when it comes to shopping online & from abroad too?

Also which Bank gives the best customer service?

What's the difference between Gold, Platinum, Manhattan cards, etc?

Does one need a savings account in a bank to qualify for CC?

^^

Unless you have crores in ur bank account. Pretty much all give same service. No specialty here or there. People will always have some experience to tell. Some do need the savings or FD account for CC. It all depends on offer, time and people u interact with.

I bank with Axis(CC&Salary), HDFC(CC&Savings), SBI(Savings), ICICI(Salary) btw.

Do you drive a lot? (Car); in that case Citibank Indian Oil is one good option. Its free too.

Otherwise I had good experience with CITI, HDFC, ICICI, Standard Charterd (OK with ABN Amro, now RBS; and Bad with Barclay). I would also like to tell you that they all are good and bad. Depends from customer to customer. So look at the benefit and decide. I have not find these Banks charging me anything extra ever.( using it for 5-6 years )

So, there's no clear indication towards a particular bank. I'll visit HDFC, ICICI, AXIS, etc. today to see what are they offering.

As for me, I've had poor experiences with ICICI, HDFC, SBI functions the sarkari way with long ques.

P.S: I do drive a lot but restricted to in-City & not gonna keep crores in my Bank!

my vote HDFC there debit card work most of time on International site else you have netsafe which i use if they don't accept debt cad
