Hello,
My Liteon 20A1P has finally konked, it doesn't read most of the DVDs i had written using it and also now it does not burn at all. Now back in 2007, Everyone used to suggest either a sony or LiteON, but now when i'm browsing through the forum, many have suggested either a Samsung or LG drive. Back then Samsung was a BIG No-No, has the scenario changed now?
I need a good Burner, not looking for anything fancy like lightscribed drives etc.
Any Suggestions?
Regards

I may be wrong but there isnt much difference between all brands . they all last 1-1.5 years . get the cheapest one , Samsung SH223-F is a good deal

both the samsung and lg drives mentioned are pretty good.

and yes, the situation is changed for samsung. earlier they use to have a lot of problems specially with the tray. now their SH-203B and SH-223F are one of the best drives available.

try to get samsung locally if its for mainly 4.5gb dvds....

buy pioneer frm abroad if its for dual layer , worth the price :D

+1 for the LG H55N...

Apart from the comparatively slow read speeds, write quality is excellent & the drive is reliable !

@everyone
Thanks for the suggestions :)

I will be using it for ONLY Sony/Moser-Baer DVDs(4.5 GB) Since many have suggested the LG one, i'll check that out... Is there any noticable difference b/w the SATA and IDE ones?

LG GH22NS30 SATA ftw.

I found it to be quieter than most of the sata drives released past year or so.
I don't even remember hearing anything while installing the OS on a freshly assembled rig. :P

One sammy SH223F i had bought sounded like a dryer. :(

I recently purchased an LG drive, IDE type

Price: 1040/-

I was concerned as few of the DVD drives had been refusing my TY discs.

LG writer been kind enuf on that front. Happy with it.

I wd give LG thumbs up too.

my LG GSA H55N doesn't burn DVD's..also it doesn't read all disks only few of them..

.i can't see the burn option highlighted in nero...

does that mean my drive has gone kaput?or it needs lens cleaning?

i barely used the drive to write DVD's..is that the reason? Also the drive is not in warranty...
