Well i just realized my fav reseller XFX has quit the green team (loved their products, their box art, packaging, the black pcb, the funky well built hs and covers.) also i have always been a Nvidia fanboy and havent got any ATI products since the old 9800 series which was followed by 7 cards from the green team :p

Now i want to get the 460 next month but i dont know which partner to choose since the best option is out.

There are 4 options here in India Gigabyte, MSI, Zotac and Palit for the 460, now i dont want to buy MSI since 2 of my colleagues have suffered with their 5870's so that is out of question and these 2 brands Zotac and Palit (i have always avoided their products) appear to me like really cheap ass chinese companies. Well i am judging the companies the way they portray their products (which is ofc incorrect) but seriously u have to see the box art and sticker on their older cards with art that looks like it was made by a 7 year old using crayons. Also i have seen the packaging and its pretty crappy, no styrofoam (like the 8800's) or good solid plastic shell (Evga 260's), just one card in a cardboard box wrapped in an anti static bag.

I would like to see user opinions who have used Palit/zotac cards here. What is the warranty provided and who handles the distribution (rashi/aditya, etc), how is the after sales support ?

Any troubles encountered in their products ?

Please do suggest a card asap , i m just being harsh and judging a book by its cover

Re: Which GTX 260 to get ?

Zotac is a sister company of Sapphire( or it used to be ) ... who incidentally dont pack there cards any better ... i have never used zotac or palit so cant really comment about the cards themselves ... but i have ( am using) Sapphire and apart from the packing i think the cards itself is pretty good ( considering that its a standard ati card that might not be much to read into that) ... i am more impressed by the freebies and also the fact that they have good ASS. As far as box art goes i think zotac has some impressive box art in there top rage cards the amp edition as well as the infinity edition.

Re: Which GTX 260 to get ?

well some of my friends do have sapphire cards and i've heard a lot of positive reviews + its well reputed and Aditya infotech handles the ASS iirc which is better than Rashi imo , too bad they dont partner with Nvidia

Re: Which GTX 260 to get ?

Palit or Zotac both will be good, just make sure u buy the 1 GB version :P

BTW do you wanna get a GTX 260 or a GTX 460... i think its the 460 rather than the 260.

Re: Which GTX 260 to get ?

whichever you buy, buy the unlocked/OC'able version :P

e.g. MSI gtx 460 cyclone - you can OC (voltage) this near to 5850 performance level.

Get the Zotac. They are offering a 5 year extended warranty as per the Zotac rep who replied in Phoenix's sale thread in the Dealer's section.

Any clue if Gigabyte products bought from US, is supported in India. There was some noise some time back, that it was supported

Re: Which GTX 260 to get ?

ofc the 460, had the 260 last year

P.S thanks for the suggestions guys, Zotac looks like the better option then

but then Phoenix is selling the vanilla for a very high price.

Damn India is great but it's a pain for us tech heads man

btw i had called a local store here, the n00b on the phone said the 768MB 460 card was available in XFX, i was like wtf but then its expected behavior from those guys they talk any crap

I own a Palit 4850 and it was RMAed laast year and the Tirupati Enterprises handle the RMA for Palit,,,,Though palit is no longer with the ATI Team still i got a RMA in flat 7 days so i dont think so claiming warranty later will be a problem

And recently palit has also solved there heatsink missing issue on some particular batch of cards.

Dont expect eVGA to be here. eVGA is as good as dead in India at this point.

I would personally get whatever is cheapest or suits you. Do check the connectivity options that you need. It may not matter to most, but different brands are offering different connectivity options. Zotac is the only one which offers displayport + HDMI.( matters to U2410 users and others who need to connect multiple monitors, monitos + tv etc )

There was big deal that was made about Palit retail cards missing the PWM heatsinks which were there on engineering samples sent to reviewers.

Well this is a non issue. None of the reference cards and neither custom PCB Zotac (there are only minor differences from reference pcb on this one) have any heatsink on PWM, so its just like every other card out there. Even MSI cyclone does not come with the heatsink on PWM.

The only card maker that really did something out of order and exceptional at this point with GTX 460 is the Galaxy AKA KFA. They have completely redesigned this card. It comes with 5 phase power supply, heatsink on PWM, dual copper heatpipe cooler...the whole 9 yards.

Unfortunately, its not available in India :P

And I dont know if it will ever be.

Zotac does have better warranty coverage at this point. If this matters to you, buy it. But hoenstly, any will do.

if i remember, it was either harshal or shripad who had replaced gigabyte card bought in us with help of gigabyte india. not sure who it was :P

but im pretty sure they did.

there was a topic regarding which all brands provide international warranty where it was mentioned.

as for the topic.

i would suggest against the palit if it is not priced much lower than the rest. i simply have lost faith in the quality control.

there was an article regarding their quality control standards based in canada which is a little lighter on standard, the thing was mentioned in an article regarding why ATi discontinued Palit as their Channel Partner..which was regarding violation of modification to 4850 memory beyond allowed specs (the 4850 DDR5 version). ATi did come up with an option to counter that officially later though, the not so famous 4860.

so long story short, check the reviews of the concerned palit product before you purchase the same.

I think Zotac / Msi would be your best bet, personally I'd hit the Palit platinum sonic edition, if it's priced closed to 14k, totally worth it.

Sahil, here's a response from Gigabyte when i had sen them a query -

Dear Sir/Ma'am,

I have a query relating to the warranty and customer support offered to motherboards. I was residing in the US for the last 3 years until May this year when i was pursuing my post grad. I had assembled a PC back then with a motherboard from Gigabyte - without doubt, this board has been one of the best boards I have purchased ever. The build quality is amazing for the price it comes for, the features and the performance is top-notch.

Now, I have brought this PC to India which is where my home town is. Should something unfortunate happen to the motherboard, will Gigabyte India honor warranty? It is going to be really painstaking if I have to send the board all the way back to the US to claim the RMA. Please address my query.

Thanking you in anticipation
Ganesh Balan

Harshal sir, please help! :P

Distributors are not obliged to, This is completely at their discretion, Corsair and Gigabyte service centers dont bother with checking purchase details. Gigabyte (Chandigarh) replaced my frens mobo (Newegg-KMD) without asking any questions last year, No bill nothing. AFAIK Sapphire does provide RMA for charges (two-way shipping to their office in HongKong), for card purchase outside India.

Shripad had a word with Gigabyte and Accel Frontline, the Gigabyte warranty will be honoured locally as well after you get the email confirmation from Gigabyte support.

Based on reviews and specs I would recommend the Gigabyte or the MSI. Definitely the 1 GB versions. There is nothing much in the factory overclocking. These cards are said to reach the 800 mark easily. I would look for the best cooling solution and get it. Palit has been getting horror reviews all over for their cooling or lack thereof.

However - warning - the Gigabyte GTX 460 that I got does not seem to like my old ASUS P5 NE board. I am still in the process of troubleshooting. Lets see how it goes. All the best for your purchase.
