Come on now thats little over reaction
Air screen aint that bad and text is fine on it

I just saw a hands-on video of the Samsung Ativ Q and fell in love with it. The transition between Android and Windows is instantaneous. I think I might be getting it once stock is available and a full-fledged review is out.

I was also looking at other Windows ultrabooks and saw the Asus Zenbook Prime 13 at Adorama for just $829. Core i5 and 128GB with 4GB RAM and global warranty and the best part is FHD screen. Only downside is no Haswell. Adorama actually has quite a good pricing for many ultrabooks.

There are good windows notebooks out there but when we talk macbooks its more about wanting the OS than anything and Macbook Air is still a excellent machine

It's not bad like the crap you get in $500 laptops, but once you are used to at least 1920x1080 IPS panels it appears unacceptably mediocre for a $1000+ product. It's not just resolution, it is a 6-bit TN panel. Viewing angles aren't great, and it only covers 65% sRGB so colours are way off. It depends on what reference you are judging by. If you must use OS X, 13" Haswell MBPR is the one to get/wait for.

The discounts which we are taking about the Back to school discounts which will only be available at Apple authorized retail outlets. Its 63900 after dicounts and not 63000. popular retail chains like Chroma, Reliance, Vijay sales are also giving this offer.

Checked out a Vaio Pro 11 today evening. The thing is insanely light. It is almost scary how light it is, feels like a tablet rather than a laptop. The screen is brilliant too and the touchscreen is very responsive. Keyboard was a bit shallow, and of course the carbon fibre is a matter of personal preference. Personally, I find it superbly engineered. Pricing is decent too, 65k for the 11, 72k for the 13, in Kolkata. (The 13 was not in stock)

@Sub I'm liking the Vaio Pro 13 too, but the keyboard just doesn't cut it for me. The Air has a great keyboard, but lacks in the display department (low resolution and lack of touch). Waiting to see what Lenovo has to offer in the Thinkpad range once they outfit them with Haswell. Samsung's Ativ 9 Plus also looks decent.

1440x900 is not so bad on a 13" you will only notice the difference if you are coming down from a retina but after a while you dont notice anymore.
And OSX is made such that it doesn't require the extra touch functionality which just smudges your screen. The Trackpad makes up for it.

BTW haven't put up the pics/opinions yet. been real busy just getting all the apps and using the air.
will do soon.

Or a FullHD screen :)

OSX has really good trackpad, but Apple hasn't released a touchscreen laptop as of yet; so no comparison can be made now. I used the touchscreen laptop for a week and found it really useful; smudges don't matter as long as I can see the screen; no one complains much about their phones and tablets anyway, and the screen will be even more distant in a laptop.

If I can't find anything in my budget (~75k) by October end, then I will settle for the MacBook Air as it is still the best overall laptop now, even with its compromises.
