Was looking for a music system to get when i buy my Car and all the ones look pathetic for the price. a system from sony/pioneer costs 14k + speakers cost. Yet the touch screen had that old resistive touch screen and resolution of 800x600 , very few video format run as well and the user interface also looks weird. yet it costs 14 k ? why is that ?? why cant we then just buy a Ipad mini , fix it on car and enjoy the amazing user interface and touch quality. just need to install 2 speakers and power them from car system than ipad. what the catch i'm missing ??

yes, you can use tablet as ICE but it's not meant for this purpose. anything purpose-built is costly. will your tablet be able to handle gurgaon's potholes? as a deterrent to thieves, you can remove the fascia of dedicated car music systems. but you might've to remove/unplug the tablet each time you leave your vehicle unattended. and ofcourse, you cannot permanently fix it in your dashboard as it would void the warranty.

anyways, install your tablet and speakers properly otherwise there is a risk of shock and fire. and you can't simply cut/splice vehicle's cable harness without affecting the warranty. there are some intelligent workarounds but i don't have any practical knowledge.

BTW, using a touchscreen system in a moving vehicle is not only dangerous but frustrating too. will you be able to use the touchscreen without taking your eyes off the road? it's nice for co-passengers though.

why will fixing perma ruin warranty? and other dealer also install stuff and if they can do without cutting harness then it should be easily possible. im sure tab can handle potholes as many people do install that gps nav systems like mapmyindia etc. on mounts so ipad mount should be just as same na.

touchscreens are already there in other cars like i20, jazz, and every expensive car so what will me having it make dangerous ? my original point is that why do touch screen systems have such poor specs when they cost so much. i wanted to watch HD stuff in our traffic jams and have that sumsung/apple like touch feel.

yes, it's possible... that's what i said. but just get it done from a knowledgeable person.

your car dealer will be better equipped to answer this question in detail. all i know is that for permanently fixing it, you'd be tampering with the car's interiors. drilling, cutting plastics etc. suction mount is not a problem... it's temporary.

you need to look at the touchscreen to be able to use it. physical buttons can be used without moving your head.

lot of companies were mulling over the idea of creating a unified OS for touchscreen ICE. looks like each company is making their own version and probably that's why no quality stuff and high costs. BTW, just place a car music system and an iPad side by side. you'll get a better picture on the price difference once you'll notice the difference in construction. vehicle systems are subjected to more vibrations and heat than an average tablet. so, there'll be different set of certifications to meet for such systems... further increasing the price.

Can concur. Have a touchscreen in my car and I almost never try to operate it when vehicle is moving. Good that I have steering controls so changing radio channels (streaming) and such can be done using that.

Car music systems are bit overpriced but; It's the quality of the amp, the acoustic ambience they create, rough and tough reliable operation makes them costly.
Consider them on par with well balanced home theater systems.
You can plan for Car PC also.

and that's in a country where people just don't jump into your lane arbitrarily! :D

i am so pissed off today because 3 nincompoops banged me from behind on a jam packed highway. 2 carwallahs were using their mobiles and a biker who was probably looking at a plane. indians are already too distracted on roads that they can't control their vehicles at 5kmph. i can imagine what's going to happen with a touchscreen based ICE. this comment wasn't meant for you @Mr India

True, even on a clear highway or road, I don't try to operate the ICE. I have tried couple of times and my vehicle swayed in another lane slightly. I tried it only when I was far away from other vehicles but now have realized it is not worth risking it. So no touchscreen operation for me when driving.

yes... experienced the same in US. people following you can easily make out that you are swerving. one of my friends driving ahead of me crashed into side-rail on an empty stretch. i thought he fell asleep. but when i checked upon him, he was grinning like an idiot... he knew what he did. high speed and momentary distraction.

the reason is quite simple... you unintentionally drive in the direction of your gaze.

it also depends on car. some cars have system much higher on dashboard so u dnt really take eye off road. and btw that happens even on non touchscreen music system. u do look at buttons when chnging.

but even if we ignore user interface . the screens we get even in 20k rs system is 800x600 pathetic lo res that has pixels and lines all visible. no clarity not even a qurter hd is there from wat i searched in any good brand.[DOUBLEPOST=1443167912][/DOUBLEPOST]Really hope apple soon makes their electric car , il definitely buy it in 4-5 years. these ppl have no clue on aesthetics and user friendliness

Just get a simple system. I don't get why people need video screens in cars. In older days it might have made sense when you could have used them to watch something when having to wait in the car. Now you can use your phone/tablet with your headphones. So better not to waste money on a system which won't get used that much.

Actually with a video system I can also connect a rear view camera in future fr just 2 k extra fr the cam n 1 sensor.

My mind is confused in 2 choices. Get a basic 10k double din n connect a 6 k rs 7inch tab on a tab on a dock fr great ui n apps n hd screen but no rear view n gotta keep tab in glove box. Else buy the normal old tech touchscreen music system fr 17k n get bad qualiyy video n user interface but get rear view cam compatibility

there are dedicated screens available for rear view cameras in the IRVM. if for that you are worried about.

You can buy one today. It's called a Tesla Model S :p

You can feel buttons and get tactile feedback to know what you are doing with them, so no you do not necessarily need to look at them if you're already familiar with their placement.

I know but why pay 5-7k extra just fr another screen that will be installdd on dash permanent and attract thieves and used only like once a day when reversing. I would rather spend so much on some white audi style led light.

Someone I know has that rearview mirror/reverse camera setup. It looks really good and no need for an extra screen. Yes the screen isn't huge but no need for a big screen just to back the car up.

you are saying no need of screen ? then where will you see the cam view ?? online i checked and a cam only module with 1 parking sensor costs around 2.2 k only. with a tiny screen it is over 5-7k.

The image will appear on your inside rear view mirror (IRVM).
