Get to know more about Windows Vista:

"Once envisioned as a minor upgrade to Windows XP, Windows Vista (formerly codenamed "Longhorn") first took on all-new importance in early 2002 when Microsoft decided to reach for the brass ring and make this upcoming Windows release an all-encompassing major upgrade with a new security architecture, a hardware 3D-enabled user interface, and many more exciting new features. Here's the first--and most comprehensive--Windows Vista/Longhorn FAQ ever created, constantly updated to include the latest information about this exciting release."

The Complete FAQ

The code name "Blackcomb" was originally assigned to a version of Windows that was planned to follow Windows XP (codenamed "Whistler"; both named after the Whistler-Blackcomb resort) in both client and server versions. However, in August 2001, the release of Blackcomb was pushed back several years and Vista (originally codenamed "Longhorn", after a bar in the Whistler-Blackcomb resort) was announced as an intermediary. Since then, the status of Blackcomb has undergone many alterations and PR manipulations, ranging from Blackcomb being scrapped entirely, to becoming a server-only release. The truth, however, seems to be that Blackcomb is still planned as both a client and server release, although with a current release estimate of 2011 (although no firm release date or target has yet been publicised).

According to bink.nu who cites an unknown Microsoft Employee from the Windows Vista Newsgroups, a new build of Windows Vista is due today.
Paul Thurrott has confirmed the build as 5342 and release date over on his FAQ for Vista pages.
The new build is expected to be released to testers on connect later today and MSDN subscribers.
Windows Vista suffered its latest delay this week as Microsoft announced Vista will not be available for OEM's and Retail outlets until January 2007. This huge set back and re-organisation of the Windows Client Division will cause significant issues for OEM's and Businesses.
Even though Windows Vista Business Editions are due to be available in November 2006 many corporations outsource their PC's to suppliers like Fujitsu Siemens, IBM or Dell which preload Windows Versions onto their machines. For the corporations that image base deploy internally this shouldn't be a big set back but it will be interesting to see what the Christmas sales figures are for new PC's this year.

Microsoft drops “Outlook Express†and rebrands mail client as “Windows Mailâ€.

When Windows Vista is released, the default email program Outlook Express will be rebranded as “Windows Mailâ€. There are some ’similarities’ with Apple Mail. But then again most of the OS has OSX ’similarities’ :)

As well as “the glass look†and innovative features like windows that “flip†in 3D, the new beta offers a “sidebarâ€, into which you can drop things that look like widgets.
