Graphic Cards X850XT or 6800gs?

there are loads of s478 boards supporting PCI-E ..here are a few but their availability is an issue .. anyways here u go ,

ASUS P4GD1 (Intel 915P Chipset)

ASUS P4RD-1 MX (ATI Radeon Xpress 200)

ASUS P4GPL-X (Intel 915PL Chipset)

There are also ASROCK boards but i dont recommend them.

Best option IMHO is to go for a 7800GS AGP.

I dobt the availability of the 7800 GS as well. And even if it is it will be quite high. But it would be a bad idea to go for an AGP card in the first place. When u want to upgrade later, u'll have to get a PCIe card then. Id say go with nikhil's suggestion, 7600 GT + mobo (provided u can get it)

I think its fine if you get a XFX 6800 GS EE (AGP) or Gainward 6800 GS or 6800 GT for abt 15k or so. Its pointless to upgrade everything right now. Though if you do get a PCI-E mbd for your processor then go ahead and make the shift to PCI-E.

You can use the 6800 GS for at least 2 years more and then move to AMD. Also the 6800 GS is highly overclockable. Also not only FPS games have SM 3.0. Games like AOE 3 also use SM 3.0, and it looks much better than with SM 2.0 enabled.

Or another option is to get Anish's 6800 normal for 7.5k and upgrade after 1.5 years to a AM2 dual core or something with PCI - E.

I still disagree...... I still say the PCIe mobo(get the 915P based one, Caayotee gave the for) and oc your CPU too..... Your CPU is a nice one.... It can oc quite well without too high temps.

couple that with a 7600GT and you have a rocking gaming rig.... Will certainly beat my rig or almost :P

Dude, u sure 6800 GS AGP is even available here? The AGP version is around $40 more than the PCIE, so even if it is it will definitely be more than 15k. The 6800 GS will not last you two years, id say about a year and the 7600/7800 is much more future proof. U can use the same gfx card when u want to upgrade later but if u get AGP u'll have to buy a new card again.

I'm not going to be sticking with AGP. If i can't find a PCI-E mobo, then i'll ask someone from TE to get it for me for around 1.5-2k extra. If it still can't be found, i'm just shelling out 40-45k and buying an enitrely new CPU.

Think I've seen some 9xx series with 478 support.... especially meant for those in your shoes, no offense meant pal. ;)
Incase memory doesn't serve me well (usually doesn't except when a chickz face is involved :ohyeah: ) then yeah you'll need a proccy changeover...
In case you are doing that you will need a mobo changeover probably too...
I'd recommend an AMD 3000+ or opty 144 (what most guys are getting)....
for Intel I'd recommend a P4 660 or a dual core. I found my 660 running well (the reason I'm recommending it to you) and the heating prob which some may remember my folks complaining off around jan 06 was due to the fact that one of the clips on the hyper 48 was loose...How bloomin lucky that the CPU didn't get screwed....that would have been the pit to the peachy holiday I just had :bleh: .....I remedied this during my time back home
temp is now 65 d max which is very good...a good change over board is any 945G based one, i feel the 925X is still better though and my asus ain't goin anywhere...:P
for AMD a 6100/6150 or the usual Nforce 4 ultra is what you should look @...
