Yesterdays Neeta Volvo Accident (how reckless is reckless???)

reading the news, i think the bus driver tried to avoid accident with the bikers, veered the bus right, lost control, rammed the divider, jumped to next lane, head on impact with innova and bammm.....

Just one word, when death comes to you, no one can avoid it, Final destination #7 :(

HULLO .... What about reports of the Neeta Bus Driver
- listening to music on his headphones
- Was consistently over-speeding & concerned passengers had warned him time & again to take-it-easy
- was Drunk

!!!

The driver fled the spot, so whether he was drunk or not can't be confirmed, even also if he is drunk, is he under limit or not can't be confirmed. Regarding over-speeding, normally on such routes, i think they travel in the range of 100-110, which is quiet controllable especially in volvo or mercedes coach, it's not alto which starts flying praying to god @ 100 kmph ++ , listening to music on headphones >> i don't think it might had made any difference to the accident.

Anyway it might also be the galti of the driver, but i had seen, in most of the accident the driver is being decided as the culprit without going deep into the case.

The government should look at enforcing speed limiting devices on these buses. I guess there is already a proposal to enforce speed governors from next year onwards, but not sure how well it will be implemented. As of now, at least here in TN, school/college buses are forced to install a speed governor. It would do immense good if the same is carried forward to these luxury private buses.
Actually the speed governors were going to be implemented in the local buses in mangalore some years back.
This was due to the reckless driving and lots of people getting killed. Few of my college mates have got killed, in the buses that we used to travel everyday to college.
But then nothing happened as usual and dust settled all over it.
In india all this happens

You enjoy the speed when you are in the bus but the same can make you feel dangerous when you are riding around these buses. On of the things which scares me is that these buses since having engine at the back side, they make almost no sound when they just come besides us on the road. This is scary especially for bike riders.
In my travel of Neeta Volvo on the Mumbai Pune expressway, i have seen the maximum the bus go to around 110 Kmph. I don't look always but sometimes using GPS and other times by looking at the physical speedometer (i usually take the front seat). This is on expressway and not on city roads.
Expressway speed limit is 80 kmph but then who follows the speed limit anyways, i have seen cars zip at more than 120 kmph (i presume).

Yeah! Neeta's speedometer usually stays well beyond 100kmph almost all times mark while other follow 100kmph while overtaking and usually stay within 100kmph mark juggling between 80-100
Also. B9R volvos are pretty silent and have a terrific pick-up as compared to B7R hence they reach the 100kmph mark much early. But then the drivers should be very skillful in handling such speeds /machines.[DOUBLEPOST=1378838723][/DOUBLEPOST]
just one more thing i want to know, why such nice coach don't have seat belt on semi-sleeper coach :(
Is it really gonna do any good when you bust tumbles from all angles and goes to the other sides of the barricades?

Shivneri buses are most of the times full from their origin, take less halts and well known for their speed. They get you less than in 3 hrs from mumbai tu pune. Bus speed is never less than 100kmph and hence ppl prefer it over NEETA and PURPLE.
Yup but they drive very sensibly and responsibly hence people dont mind paying a hefty fare.

These Neetas and rest pvt. operators take a halt for almost 45mins to an hour at times. A sheer waste of time. I regularly encounter travelers who wanna catch trains from Mumbai but due to all this, most of their trains are missed. In such scenarios, they have to alight at the nearest station and from there catch a local to then catch their express trains. Pity on such people. And these poor guys keep asking the drivers "bhai aur kitna time lagega, muje train pakadni hai" and the drivers simply respond " main ood ke to nahi ja sakta, traffic pe depend hai...1 ghanta ya 3aur 3 ghanta bi lag sakta hai!!: hearing such arrogant answers the poor fella is left with no choice at all then doing last moment jugaad.

Neeta sucks. I always travel via Shivneri to and fro Mumbai-Pune. Metrolink is also good.
That accident looks horrible. You see how reckless he was driving by looking at the condition of vehicles after accident.
Yes I sincerely agree to what you said, Volvos dont get smashed so badly and easily. It clearly states how reckless senseless the driving was.

I remember one very old famous but major horrifying accident which occurred on mumbai-goa highway... at night a state run ST bus was overtaking a truck and suddenly a volvo appeared from the opp. roadside and the st bus was trapped in middle as it had no option to either overtake nor get back by slowing down and the volvo too could do nothing as all this happened just in matter of seconds...it rammed into & ST bus was literally halfway cut down into two pieces and it kept ramming to all the trees roadsides until it tumbled multiple times. Surprisingly the volvo people dint knew much wht exactly happened as all passengers were in deep sleep and thy woke up to the banging sounds. The volvo got some dents on right side and a lower body cut and the windshield got damaged only from right side but all passengers were safe on volvo and only the right side passengers had some minor injuries. Unbelievable but true. But sadly many of the ST passengers died. ST driver was at fault, the inquiry revealed.
That volvo bus was parked for many days outside Dadar station from where most pvt buses leave for outstation journeys. Luckily I got to see it as it was my regular route for going to my classes in those days.

We have 3 major and the best buses on Pune-Kolhapur route (220kms)..

1. Shivneri : Damn expensive.. Costs Rs. 570 which is too much.. I prefer this only when bookings of other buses are full.
2. Neeta : Well, they are always over speeding on busy NH4 (Kolhapur to Pune) highway..
3. Konduskar : Well known.. I never had bad experience with them. They depart on time, arrive on time. Good service so far!

Yup.
Konduskar is well known since past more than 15years now on pune-kolhapur and mumbi-kolhapur route. It has merged with prasanna/purple/metrolink.

Infact, one major point to highlight is, if a neeta volvo breakdowns on a highway, we have to wait for only another neeta.

But if a konduskar, prasanna, geete, purple, metrolink etc. breakdown, they all have tie-ups within them and accommodate in any of these traveling buses on that route or even send another empty bus available from either one of them. :)
