You mostly won't need to rma that mobo- it is one solid-looking mobo for sure.
Anyways, ASUS rma is improving and will get much better i feel.
If you want an even more inexpensive solution, then you may check the ASUS P7P55D-E LX (approx 8.5K iirc).

I had heard of this too but thought it's not such a big issue.
A few friends have used the HD5770, they found it ok for not too heavy 1080p gaming and the idle power consumption is quite low too iirc.
If budget stretches a bit, i was thinking of fitting in a GTX460...
