Intel i5 12400F + H610M in 2025 for 1080p 60FPS Gaming - Yay or Nay?

I am traumatized by H series motherboard for Intel. Would not recommend. Please get a good motherboard so you dont lose everything everytime theres a voltage fluctuation, power cut, thundering, anything.

Yes don’t go with H series but with B series and that too B760 in case of Intel and B550 in case of AMD.

Why not the LGA 1700?

The i5-12400F is still a great value CPU in 2025, especially for 1080p 60FPS gaming. Pair it with a decent mid-range GPU (like RX 6600 or RTX 3060) and you’re good to go for most titles on high settings.

Only downside is the H610M board limits future upgrades—no PCIe Gen 5, fewer RAM slots, and no overclocking. But if you’re aiming for a reliable budget setup and don’t need cutting-edge features, it’s a solid combo.

@OMEGA44-XT , may help @cattynip , as he has i5-12400 system for quite some time…

Currently running an i5-12400F with a H610M motherboard and a 3060 12GB in my living room setup, connected to a 55" TV.
Been using it as a living room gaming PC, and it handles 1080p high settings really well. I’m also able to play most games at 1440p (2K) with DLSS enabled and still maintain a smooth 60 FPS experience.

Honestly, for a couch gaming setup, it’s been great — solid performance, quiet, and perfect for plugging in a controller and just chilling. The 12GB VRAM on the 3060 also helps a lot with newer games.

No plans to upgrade unless I move to 4K or need higher frame rates, but for now, it’s doing exactly what I need.

Thanks for your inputs everyone! I got a decent discount on Amazon Prime Day Sale. Bought the 12400F and MSI H610M-E DDR4 for INR 14,343. I’ve heard Amazon isn’t the best when it comes to purchasing PC parts but I was tempted and bit the bullet. I’ll keep you guys posted.

you requires GRAPHIC CARD (GPU) for display, as this 12400F don’t have iGPU, hope you know that while placeing order.

Do you have Graphic Card with you or placed order to test if CPU/Motherboard is working correctly?

yep, I have a RX 7600 with me so good on that front. Also an update, I am now getting the motherboard from Computech. I saw a few reviews for the motherboard on Amazon with bent pins out of the box. Didn’t want to risk it. Hopefully the CPU doesn’t turn out to be a dud.

hope you have gone through all Postive & Negetive Google Reviews about Computech before placing order with

Cpu is good enough for 200fps 1080p gaming as long gpu can provide the power..

From what I can tell, it’s a solid combo. At 1080p, the CPU does seem to get pushed harder, especially in high-FPS games, Once you bump up to 1440p, the load shifts more to the GPU and things will feel balanced.

Hi guys, the motherboard finally arrived today! Now the build is complete

I have concerns for mu GPU temperatures. The delta between GPU Temp. and GPU Hotspot Temp. seems high. It surpasses 20 degree C sometimes.

Above SS: Frame rate capped at 50FPS

Frame rate un-capped.

Congratulations! It looks damn good. How many hertz does your monitor have?

100Hz for the main and 144Hz for the secondary. I mostly lock my frame rates to 60 for better thermals and less power consumption. Its quieter.

Interesting, wouldn’t be much smoother if you caplock 80fps?

i have a 12100f and rx6600 and I EASILY play any game at 1080p60. Ive got 140 hours in rdr alone, and trust me frame gen is very good.
