Logitech Caught Pushing Firmware That Breaks Your Mouse - Cross Post

Reddit Post -

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/s/r8FFtgQy4L

All of a sudden, huge numbers of users of mx master 3s (myself included) are reporting the same failures at the same time:

Scroll wheel won’t switch to smooth scroll

SmartShift completely dead

Switching scroll modes or fast scrolling disconnects the mouse

Mode-switch light doesn’t light up anymore

This didn’t happen gradually. It all started after the latest Logi Options+ firmware update.

The worst part? Logitech admits firmware cannot be rolled back. Once you update, you’re locked in — even if the update cripples your device. And conveniently, this happens right before they release their new model.

This reeks of planned obsolescence — we pay premium prices for these mice, and Logitech is deliberately crippling them to push customers into buying their upcoming model.

Several other users in the comment section also confirmed they’re affected by this. Did any of you face this issue?

DAmn when was this firmware released. Mine is in warranty but their warranty claim is a torture in itself. They want both bill and box and make you wait hours.

Also logitech is the shittiest company i’ve seen. And I use 2 of their 10k keyboard and 2 7k mouses. The price to quality and reliabilty ratio is abymisal. I can totally belive they did it deliberately. Will stop updating firmware now without checking for feedback first.

charge like apple, doing shit like 100 rupee product. their app is really annoying, slow and often have issue.

Not sure about the details or even if the claim is legit. It just so happened that their mouse broke and few other people got affected so they created a post saying “Logitech Exposed”.

Just posting here so others don’t update the firmware if in case this turns out true.

The post has been deleted. Looks like clicks farming.

It was AI written article anyway, just like the title. Still, a reminder not to update firmware if everything’s already working. (Learnt it the hard way with my controller)

This mouse has 420 issues, but I haven’t faced this one yet.

That post might be AI generated but it is probably based on old reports of GHub just breaking things.

Also, it is ridiculous that people go to Logitech for peripherals which are designed anyway to fail just outside the reduced warranty period.

I guess you never visited /r/mkindia sub.

Hate that clickity clackity shiz.

It is a common myth that all mechanical switches are clicky . There are silent mechanical switches too. You just need a good keyboard that supports hot swappable switches & you can install whichever type switches you want. Blue clicky switches are the cheapest so found in most typically selling models on amazon/flipkart but even there you can find red switches models which are much less noisier than blue switches.

I like chicklet style keyboards. Never understood the mechanical hype tbh. I prefer doing less work. I had a few old ones in office. Hated typing on them. It felt like a finger workout.

Well this falls under “you have to experience it to know it” category. If you can spend around 2.5k to test things then get Evofox Ronin wired version from amazon in this sale, it has red switches & if you don’t like it a bit then most likely you won’t like any mechanical keyboard but if you do like it then remember that it is just entry tier of mechanical keyboards worth getting.

logitech firmware were always iffy

Printer companies used to do this, now even mouse companies followed suit? Shaking head in disapproval. :person_facepalming:

My preference is totally opposite. Absolutely hate chiclet for long term usage. Its very bad when gaming because i can easily bottom out and hurt fingers.

My fingers felt a lot better once i moved to brown mech keyboard ( just a cheap redgear one, still using because it keeps working).

It gives a bit of feedback that allows you to avoid bottoming out, and even though it takes more force to keep keys pressed when gaming, overall my fingers are better for it. Dunno about mechanical keyboards that don’t have this resistance. I wouldn’t buy red keys for example.

So, this just showed up for me, sharing it in two screenshots -

Is it this one, which is being suspected to be causing the issue ?

There are two main types of mechanical switches: Linear (like red switches) & Tactile (like brown switches you use).

I really hope this isn’t true. But then again, they are known to have QC issues with their gaming mice at least.

Speaking from experience from using my G604 for work. I’ve had to replace switches and use other DIY solutions to keep it running, because it truly is one of the nicest mice I’ve used, ergonomically and hardware-wise. Been 4 years with this, hoping to keep using it for a bit longer now because I was considering an MX mouse as an upgrade.

Think I’ll just move to another MMO mouse (because I need them shortcuts) from another brand, even if they don’t have decent warranty. It certainly can’t be as bad as Logi.

I really wonder if manufacturers appreciate their products as much as some of their users do. I am yet to find a worthy replacement for my G604. Sad to see good tech end up like this. Please excuse the mild rant.

Assuming you mean the desktop software? The one for my G604 (GHub) is an absolutely terrible piece of software. As a UX designer, I think it’s probably at the top of my list of apps that only look good, but runs like shit.
