Well lucky me or u can say unlucky me ;) I don't have to worry about ant CTC or LTA or anything like that. A full year gone after my degree completion and I'm still jobless ! :P After looking at my portfolio many folks scratch their head to the scalp as to why I'm still jobless, maybe I'm too unlucky to get a job even in this market boom:rofl: Congrats to the OP in advance if u make through. :)

Which campus is this. IIT's usually get higher packages than other colleges.
Nope. CTC is cost to company, So it may include additional benefits like Medical Insurance, gratuity and Employer PF and anything else that may end up as cost to the company during the year and not essentially part of the salary. What you are taking about is Gross yearly Salary. Gross Salary/12 - Tax = Net monthly income which is what you take home. For example the CTC may be 10L, but the gross annual income may be only 8L in that.
Jadavpur University. My classmates already joined Adobe and the ones who got offer from MS are yet to join in July. So what I mentioned about CTC was actually the salary for Adobe ( CTC was ~11L IIRC ). I don't know the same for MS yet but the package is 10.6L.

@asingh

The CTC for Amazon was around 15L and gross salary is 9.5L :P

Err...If you have such an impressive profile(portfolio?), you should have landed yourself a job by now.

You're not trying hard enough. :)

Shoot your résumé around! :P

The only thing that makes my portfolio impressive is that besides the engineering degree, I have done 1 year Diploma in Networking and 3 year GNIIT, all while doing my degree thus had exposure on a wide array of platforms. U name a technology/platform and there is a high probability that I have done it. Plus I have also done SCJP but even then I'm jobless! :P I think its my 12th percentage (55% only) that is holding it all back. As for trying hard, I'm already on naukri,Monster,Timesjob,ChetnasForum, u name it I'm there but still I haven't been able to find a decent job in Delhi/NCR :P

Three problems I see.

1. Just enrolling at these sites, won't help. You need to use the right keywords, refine the search results and APPLY for the advertised positions. No room for nitpicking here. Try ten and you might hear back from one.

2. You need to be flexible with the work locations. You might just find the best damn opportunity, with the location being the only deterrent.

3. "I think its my 12th percentage (55% only)" Some companies might take this against you.

Good luck! :)

I know I need to be flexible with work location but I can't as I'm already doing weekend course for GATE in Delhi so need to make some change just to pa my rent in Delhi, that's all but even then I don't want to go for BPO/KPO jobs. :P

As for the 3rd point, I'm not able to make out what u r trying to say. Some companies might take this against me? What do u mean by that exactly  Many have already rejected me because of this, now what' the worse they can do about it ? ;)

6L, 10L 15L....hmmm, those are some astronomical salary figures. Ppl get such salaries after years of experience.

When my current company came to my campus when I was back in college, they were targeting for 3 recruitment's. 120 people sat for preliminary test and 40 people were short listed for interviews. There were two technical and one manager cum HR kind of round (meaning to say that the manger had those kinds of questions to ask). If the first tech interviewer found a candidate pretty strong he was directly sent to the final manager cum HR round skipping the second round. After interviewing 8~10 people, they felt that recruiting only 3 would be too difficult as there were some pretty good people to be found at our campus and they called back the company and got permission to recruit 10 which is what they recruited in the end.
That's inspiring!! Hope that happens here too.........

lol...6 lakh?? 10 lakh?? People don't get that much after doing their MBA's from rank 15 onwards colleges...are you talking about some hotshot IIT'an or something? I've seen Btech dudes earning only about 3-4 lakh.

Well in my batch...50 people got package of 22.5 LPA on first day of placement...average salary for my department (EE) was 10 LPA...and I'm talking about 2 years back...and about IIT Kharagpur...6 LPA was minimum for my department...

Was that pay for work in India or outside India? (22.5 LPA, I mean). Were the jobs at finance/consulting companies (MCKinsey, BCG, Lehmann) in 2007, 2008 years or were those being offered by core/software companies?

Schlumberger offered the package of 22.5 LPA...and yes McKinsey, Lehmann, DB, ITC, PnG recruited from campus on package of around 12 LPA...Google offered 12 LPA, Yahoo offered 8.5 LPA...

Sclumberger is one of the most unscrupulous companies on the planet if you know what I mean - they'll pay you that 22.5lacs but you'll have to stay in a tent in the middle of a war zone or an igloo in alaska to earn that. Pay me a million dollars a month and I still won't work in places like that.

10lpa sounds par for the course as far as the other companies are concerned.

+1

most people leave sclum before you can blink your eyes :bleh:

Those are the kind of pays Ibanks and consulting companies pay IIM grads. BCG and Mckinsey I hear genreally take IITians as interns and later on finace their master's degree.

IBanks pay 12-15L per annum to freshers.

BCG Mckinsey recruit for permanent positions for duration of 2 years after which they'll ask you to leave to get higher degree.

They mention the 2 year thing before hiring itself. Pay is 10-12L per annum but the job is probably the best you can get after graduation.

^^ Hmm didnt know I banks recruited engineers.. but the post grads from IIM's genreally get upwards of 20-25L PA from Ibanks in India, and goes at dizzying heights in London, New York. Ofcourse Ibank sheen has declined after 2008, but yet those guys make a killing. The bonuses, are mind boggling, MNC bank I-bankers point got bonus in excess of 40L PA over and above their CTC..

Another field in banks, which make a killing in bonuses are the prop traders. A colleague who shifted to Deutsche bank prop trading, made very good money last year, but his immediate boss, an energy trader based in Berlin, made a cool 1 million Euro bonus, an Indian (IIT+IIM guy). 10_12L seemed mind boggling to me too infact yet does :P, before I joined the banking industry. The amount of money middle/senior management makes in banks is insane, no wonder governments across the world are pissed....
