Ok.....mx5021 for 8850/-
Hitachi 80gb SATA2 - 3450/-
Zalman 5.1 3150/-

Just got this from mnemonics. And of course I'll bargain before finalising the deal.

Also, he doesnt have any more week 17 proccys. Best he can do is week 23. How are these?

Late Latif in this thread.. but is SATA2 worth the extra money?

Zhop --- Why do you need to go for a new 80GB HDD?? Why dont you go for another 160GB HDD itself?? You can store all your movies, etc on it. Or you can buy 2 x 40GB drives and put them in RAID 0. and the old 160gigs for your main storage.

Nikhil, I'm buying 2 80gb to put in RAID-0. I dont think 40gb is much cheaper nowadays.
I hope you have some additional storage for backup. You never know when your RAID array goes kaput. Happened to me once and I lost nearly 300 GB of data :(. Personally I haven't flirted with RAID0 since then.

Then its the same as sata2....And hitachi comes with 5 year warranty. So if any drive screws up due to RAID or whatever after say 3 years, I'll get brand new HDD. And since 80Gb will be phased out by then, I'll get 200Gb. :ohyeah:

Its almost a 500 buck difference :P

Seagate comes with a 5yr warranty as well, but ok if you want to go ahead with the Hitachi no harm, the SATA2 disk will definately have the upper hand however marginal the difference is.

How much for seagate 80gb SATA?

^ Around 2.9 ~ 3K

I was quoted 2900/- for a Hitachi 80GB SATA drive a few days back and as far as I know Hitachi have only one model in the Indian market and that is a SATA2 drive.

Today a friend got a price about 3500/- from his computer assembler for a 120GB Hitachi SATA drive... again... this is most prob a SATA2 drive.

For what it is worth the 80GB Hitachi drive won the award in the Sept issue of CHIP.

I suggested segate as it has 5yrs warranty and many ppl here on TE have tried segate.

I got a 5 year warranty on my Hitachi drive which I bought a few days back.

Is that english??

God..... why has everyone decided to use my thead to spread grammer lessons? :ohyeah:
BTW, asked my local dealer for a quote today. As expected, he'd never heard of twinmos, (not even zalman), but he said he'll get back to me tommorow. Main advantage over mnemonics/lamington is he's offered 6-7K for my current PC. Mnemonics doesnt do buy-backs.
Now u'll ask why I can't sell it on TE - its because I want to get rid of the entire system. I don't have any space to keep it. Seriously. My room is 8x8. I don't even know where I am going to put the new boxes. :S

sorry last post in your thread zhopudey from my side.........

i have told in my earlier post that my english is not that great............and u people are discouraging me to clear my doubts......i m really felling bad that why do i post.....am i going to get some marks on my english.....anyways....wont bore u people again

^ LOL, relax pal, try to be a bit more clear in what you're trying to say :D

I guess what he's trying to say is : "Where is the Hitachi Service Centre?"
