My experience with 5G has been somewhat inconsistent, but I have to say, given how skeptical I was at the frenzied push by the telcos to adopt it - we can't even get near the 4G theoretical max, and now we're going for 5G? - I'm pretty impressed with the speed; it's been useful when I've needed to pull some large files from my home server. I'm also impressed with how fast it's spreading in my city (Kochi) - I saw it for the first time in December, and now I'm at least briefly getting a connection almost everywhere I go. That said, the connectivity can be pretty inconsistent: it is very sensitive to positioning at times, switching between LTE and 5G on a dime, and if I'm in motion (highway or metro) my data connection will be rendered completely useless because of all the switching back and forth - I have to disable 5G to be able to access the internet at all when that happens (or stop moving, I guess). I don't know if that's an inherent limitation of the technology, or if it's because my phone's firmware isn't optimized for it yet (Mi 11X).
By the way: did anyone else randomly get a 100 gigs of data from Airtel for free just out of the blue? I did, and I have no idea why. I did recently renew for a year, but it's never done that before. My best guess is that it's some sort of promotion that coincides with their 5G rollout, but I don't get why they wouldn't make that clearer if that is the case.
. Can't even wait for Jio AirFibre... If they use Band258...and provide better pricing... then 5G can even distort the Home Fibre Connection market.
