there are drivers in the phone. how can they not be installed as soon as you attach the phone via usb to comp? weird. i hope you're running windows 8 right? cause that guide is for windows 8 x64 only. for windows 7 you only have to install pantech pc suite first then connect the phone to computer.

Yes win8 pro x64 , I have win7 x64 on my laptop & drivers install fine through pc suite , on win 8 nothing happens when i connect, dont have pc suite installed, only if i chose usb storage the drivers are installed for removable usb drive, if i chose pc data mode in the phone settings nothing happens .

enable usb debugging option (under development option) in phone settings and connect it to the pc. it will load drivers. it will show up as p9070 in devices. then remove the phone from comp, install pc suite, then remove the usb drivers (which pc suite installs separately) from add remove programs. dont remove pc suite. restart pc and then connect phone and it should work. i tried this method more than 3-4 times on my pc with windows 8.

In xda they are plainly mentioning to install pc suit followed by java sdk and adroid sdk (platform tools only)
and then proceed....like pasting the root and cwm img files in sdk folder and so on.....do we really need to install drivers from mobile first?

usb debugging is enabled , it does show in device manager with four yellow question marks but there is no driver installation

I made a backup using adb -

adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot cwm-5.0.2.7-presto.img

took about 5 minutes to complete , got these messages in the end , looks normal for this phone according to google?

no /sdcard/.android_secure found. skipping backingup of aplications on external storage

backing up cache
no sd-ext found. skipping backup of sd-ext. generating md5 sum

backup complete

backup size is 739 mb

right click on the device, select install drivers then browse from the location, go to the folder where PC suit is installed...browse it and click ok, that will install the necessary drivers.

Hi All,

I will be getting Pantech Burst today evening from a fellow TE member and this will be my 1st Android phone so basically I am a noob in Android roms, rooting etc. Basic idea I have got after reading the threads.

I have few doubts please help me. I will be using 2G on this device and Wi-Fi and no plans to use custom roms.

1. I want to use Pantech ICS so should I directly upgrade from the Pantech website or do any settings before upgrade?
2. If I want to remove AT&T apps, so should I root before upgrade or I can do it later after upgrade?
3. If I simply upgarde to ICS, will there be any issues?

1 - The new models all have ICS preinstalled on them along with AT&T and Google apps. If not, you can download pantech pc suite and upgrade tool from the website and install ics on the phone. The step by step instructions to upgrade to ics are given on pantech site with images. Alternatively, if your phone comes with gingerbread, you can root it, install cwm, then download ics deodex from link given in previous pages in this thread and flash it. Instructions on how to do that are already given here in many posts in this thread.
2 - You need to root your phone and install Titanium Backup pro to remove or freeze the AT&T apps. The deodex rom is already rooted and has cwm in it.
3 - nopes.

Thanks @6pack for the reply. Today I have upgraded the device to ICS from pantech but not yet inserted my sim as I am waiting for the scratch guard which I have ordered from ebay and I need to cut the sim also so I am waiting for the scratch guard 1st.

Do the AT&T apps work in the background and consume battery, CPU and data. I am not thinking of removing them, only if they are using the CPU and data in the background then will root and remove it.

i forgot if they run in background and consume battery. i removed them mostly since they are not needed and usefull to americans only.

btw, my phone for some reason automatically restarted by itself now a few minutes back while it lying unused in a corner of table. I have not enabled bluetooth or wifi in it. so is there any event viewer in android where i can see what made it restart?

Hello !!! (New to forum)
Purchased burst recently. (Unlocked version & ICS preinstalled.) Had it rooted + Cwm 5.0.2.7 and using idea net setter 3g sim.
I was trying to use USB tethering feature since start but after many attempts and digging, ended up with a safe way of secret code revealer trick. Now bluetooth tethering , wifi Hotspot has started working but USB tethering does not work, when i connect the usb cable the usb tethering check box is available when i tap the usb tethering check box it become greyed out just like its greyed when usb cable is not connected , what can be done here?
A new device is installed on my computer when i enabled usb tethering and there is a new adapter in Network and sharing centre (Pantech Android USB Ethernet/RNDIS Ver1).... i have no idea how to connect to it as no new modems are showing or detecting in connection or network wizard.
Can someone guide me a way to internet using installed network Connection ?? Or How to usb tether burst step by step on win 7.

P.s. my Wifi and blootooth tethering are working good. and there is no problem of less responsive front buttons. however, earlier back button needs 2-3 touch to work but after a hard reset it works like charm.

Regards

Wow !!! No reply .... :annoyed:
Btw For Others Having Same Problem ....
I Recomend Using Tether app from clockworkmod .... it works gr8 but speeds are capped to low arround 90 KBps on Idm... But Its Better than not having any speed...
If anyone has any other way of working arround it, Please share !!!!!

Thinking about getting one of these for a non-techie friend. Hows the build quality? Also, after rooting do all functions like wifi hotspot etc work correctly or does it need a custom ROM and modifications?

Wifi hotspot works great. With Little mod u can use USB tethering also... build quality is avg... but check reviews abt battery backup that is only a dissatisfaction... btw phone is worth every penny....

Battery life is pathetic.

I have upgraded to stock ics and using Vodafone 2g connection.
My daily usage.
1 gmail and exchange a/c sync
Facebook app
Whatsapp
Gtalk
1 hr browsing
15 -20 min calling.

Battery last only 8-10 hrs. I need to charge it twice.

Any solution to increase the battery life. If not then I will sell the device
